Well earth day is today and we went out and picked up the trash in the ditch by our school only to find that when I left today there was already new trash there. I thought this should be discussed about.
Is earth day as recognized as much as it should be?
Are enough people helping out to make a dramatic difference?
And lastly, Why is there only ONE day dedicated to the earth when we should be helping all the time?

Earth Day is a brilliant idea! It isn't very well recognised though, which is a shame. I think more needs to be done to raise awareness of environmental issues.
And no attempt at helping the environment is futile, no matter how small. It all adds up in the end, and (hopefully!) when people see you helping to clean up your community they will be inspired to help too! biggrin
Bring back Captain Planet, I say. mrgreen

It seemed to me that it got a little more publicity than normal this year. I actually saw a bunch of "earth conscious" commercials on t.v. promoting recycling and not using disposable products. At least it's more than I've seen in previous years.
I think Earth Day is a great idea, and should be better recognized. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of work and most people don't want to be bothered. It's sad, but unfortunately true.

I think people are missing out on the concept. it's a shame really. I remember as a kid when McDonald's gave out free trees for earth day.

I think an Earth Week would be more appropriate. It is hard to pack everything into one day, and if you have work or school on Earth Day, then what can you do? If it were a whole week you could spread it out, and you would always have a weekend to have eco-friendly events that people could attend. We all live on the Earth, doesn't it deserve more than 1 out of 365 days?

I like that idea. Somebody should write to the gaia staff and have them make it a holiday. That would be a start to get it more recognized. I agree that the Earth needs more than one day and a lot more attention.
