I've been examining the whole abortion debate for awhile now, and I eventually did manage to settle into one particular viewpoint:
A human life is valuable because of the consciousness therein. I shall take away no man's right to life, for any man thinks, wills, hopes, and bleeds just as I do.
But if it were this alone that made life sacred, wouldn't murdering preconscious babies be acceptable? I thought about this, and arrived at the conclusion that the threshold for human constitution arrives not with worth, but with debt.
By this I mean that it is once a being gains the ability to feel pain, it becomes the responsibility of its creators to do whatever possible to alleviate the agony inherent in its existence. Until then, I consider a human fetus to be relatively disposable.
So I'm camped in the middle ground, I guess. I noticed many Pagans and others here announcing their offense at animal cruelty, and I wondered if anyone's views are comparable to mine.

Whoops. I'd meant to create a third poll option, titled "It's a bit more complicated than that, pal." I guess I'll have to declare myself pro-choice, seeing as how I've gone and limited my say.

I find that my view point may be consisdered pro abortion it is really in between. YesI agree that is a human life that is being takin away, but what if it's for the good of the child and the mother. lets say for example the mother is a 12 year old girl who got rapped or something horrible like that and she decided to have an abortion because the child would suffer threw life and she dosen't want to be reminded of that horrible night everyday either. I find under this kind of circumstance an abortion wouldn't be compltley evil.

I do lean more towards for life because each baby that has not been born did not get the chance to live. People say that the child inside must have already been born and then died afterwards for it to be a "true death", but once you think about it, that baby might never be born at all unto another person. I fully understand the concepts if the mother was 10, 11, or even 13, so on and so forth. Each person has a right to live. The cruelty of thinking killing an unborn child is unnecessary. But, furthermore, I'm open-minded about both options.

Whoa, that was beautiful. Even if I don't necessarily agree with the message. The problem with the whole "it's the ending of a potential life" argument is that potential lives are also constantly being ended by people not reproducing as much as possible.

For me I wouldnt want to get an abortion
.........now if i was a addict abusive .....just unable to care for a child.
Its sad but I would rather the life be spared so that it may not have to suffer.

It truly is one of those things that you never know until you have to decide, and it's a bridge I hope many of you( and I) will never have to cross. Altough I do think the babies that are aborted are born again because they already have souls.

In a way I guess it could be considered murder but on the other hand as it has been stated if the child is going to suffer then it could be an act of "mercey" sorry i have no other word to use.

i fully believe it depends on the situation.
it can be so harmfull not only to the aparent child/fetus..but the mother. I know several girls who years later still struggle with the loss of that child after an abortion.
I believe it takes a great deal of strength to make that choice ...now one girl i know already has two kids AFTER She had an abortion..with the same guy shes with and shes barely 18....>.< and i believe her sudden baby boom probably is a pharmacologically thing going on after she gave up a baby. at least i think so..it could be that its a bad relationship and shes doing everything she can to keep the guy around.
any who, i think any one who was raped or in unfortunate situations as to being incredibly young..like 11 or 13. I think those are cases that would be considered for an abortion. Or if some one has HIV or some horrible disease that might be passed on...then thats a choice that i believe should be an option.
i hate the concept of abortion. I do..but i am pro-choice..cause I believe thats your child, your body , and your life.. I don't want people making choices like that for me.

i am conservative but i'm also pro choice. i believe every person should have the right to choose what they want to do and that no one has the right to say they cant. although i am against abortion, those people chose to get pregnant or to take the risk of getting pregnant they have to deal with their choice. on the other hand if the child was a product of rape on a person unfit to be a parent then there is nothing wrong with it.
