Leviathan had been spending an awful lot of time at the beach lately. Getting kicked out, running off with his surf board, any excuse to go play in the waves. He'd found the longer he was in the water, the better the surf was. And today, he had all day to play in the salty sea. It was gorgeous day, the sun was shining and-
OMF!
Leviathan yowled and scrambled to his feet, spitting wet sand as he shook his head. He really ought to pay more attention when he was playing near the surf. It had a strange tendency to surprise him like that and-
HEY!
"COME BACK!" Leviathan hollered, watching in horror as his board began to float down shore under its own will. He broke into a sprint. Gotta catch that board!

It was a beautiful day. Not only had Jahzara stopped heckling her father after three full days of begging, but it wasn't too busy on the beach and Brad had agreed to take his half crazed daughter.
She was skipping on the wet sand, squealing girlishly everytime the warmish water lapped over her toes, but not having enough sense to move out of its reach. Jahzara wore - much to her father's chagrin - a yellow polka dot bikini suit. With her speckled hair and shoulders, the outfit was almost natural on her tan and lithe frame. Quite frankly, she thought she looked fabulous and was humoring her father's snorting teasing.
It wasn't enough that he had to sing the song to her - loudly - the whole way to the beach, or that he kept making stupid snide remarks - "Well aren't you just the cat's meow!" - but he was following her on the warm DRY sand, randomly belting out the song. What didn't help matters is that his daughter would often sing along with him, tail ticking like a pendalum to keep time. Brad was simply wearing a pair of cobalt blue trunks, brown flip flops in one hand as he walked barefoot with his daughter. He had a cooler in the other hand.
"--that she wore for the first time toda~ay!" Jahzara crowed happily, taking high steps to emphasize the song. "It was a--board!"
"That's now how it goes," her father glanced over to her, arching a dark brow in question.
"Board!" The spotted girl pointed to a surf board that seemed to be intent on passing them by. Jahzara would have been content to let it do as it pleased, if not for the fact that there was a young boy barreling down the stretch of sand after it. Or so she assumed by his cry of "COME BACK."
Jahzara showed off her feline sign in a sudden graceful leap, sprinting towards the water, kicking up clumps of sea-bogged sand as she narrowed in on the escaping board. With another giant bound as though she had springs in her legs, she landed neatly on the surf board, using her weight to keep it from getting away.
She had never surfed before, nor had the thought ever occured to her, so when the board's tail went down and the nose came up, catching a minor break at the same time, she could do little more than squeak in surprise and pinwheel her arms. Jahzara bent her knees to keep her balance, but she was unused to the motion of the ocean, and was toppled into the low water unceremoniously.
Being shallow, she surfaced quite quickly, wrapping her lanky arms around the board and detaining it with bodily force. Her small wet ears were flat against her wet spotted hair, but her eyes with glowing above her wildly giggling grin.
Brad stood in utter shock before being taken with laughter hard enough to double him over.

Leviathan didn't see Jahzara until his surf board went cruising on by her. What luck! Maybe his friend could stop the runaway! The lobster boy let out a whoop as the cheetah went sprinting after it (run cheetah run!) and...made a mighty leap? Leviathan watched, really rather surprised, as the girl caught his pet, and promptly got bucked off. The boy cringed and shook his head, jogging up to the scene of the accident. Well, at least she was laughing, right?
"Hey! Hey! Nice save!" he cried, waving wildly. It was a nice save, except for the shaky dismount. But she caught the board, and he was thankful, so he could save the making-fun for another time. He didn't slow up until he was in the surf next Jahzare. He offered her a hand up. "Thanks for catching my board. I didn't even notice it got away until it was half way down the beach! And man, my dad woulda killed me if I had to ask him for a new board." He shook his head. He would not be getting a new board, and that would make for a very sad Leviathan.
"Do you come to the beach a lot?"

The giggling had simmered to a few muted snorts and chuckles as the boy came closer, complimenting the girl all the while. That pleased her to no end, even though she couldn't properly see him with the sun and it's unpleasant angle. "Thanks," she giggled a little, extending a hand to the boy's. "It's fine. I'm glad it's oka--"
Tangerine eyes shifted immediately to the hand she was holding, which didn't really feel like a hand. It was...red. And encrusted. And gave her memories of swings and shrieks and hair...
"...handsome hair?" she murmured to herself, finally looking the boy in the face. Slitted eyes met his mismatched ones, saw the cresting waves of hair on his head, and she knew.
The girl squealed with surprise and joy, moving suddenly from a seated position and holding the board and his hand, to being attached to Leviathan in a manner that could have been embarrassing had the two been older. Her movement kicked the board to lodge on the sand, her arms around his neck and shoulders and she crowed her delight. "It's you! Levi!! Look at you!!"

Leviathan looked mildly startled as Jahzara launched into a hug, stumbling back into the surf. He was about to ask what was going on when he realized why the girl was so happy. Because they were friends! "Jahzara!" he shrieked happily, wrapping his arms around her waist and swinging her around. "Hihihi!" he crooned, setting her back down in the sand. The boy was really much stronger than his little body let on. "I haven't seen you in forever," he crooned, tipping his head to one side.
He untangled himself from the cheetah and moved sideways to fetch his board -couldn't risk it escaping him again- before stepping back to Zara's side. Oh! Maybe she just liked the beach too, like him! Wouldn't that be lovely, if they could be beach buddies? "This is my faaaaavorite place in the whooooole word," he informed her, nodding sagely. "But I'll share with you. Okay?"

The girl giggled madly as he said her name, squealing happily as she was swung around like a pillow rather than a child. "I know, forever and a day!" Jahzara agreed with glee, beaming up at him. She watched him retrieve his board and promptly nodded at his statement. "I'm honored," she said with as much of a serious expression that she could muster, which wasn't much considering that she was trying not to grin ear to ear. Eventually the grin won out and she hopped next to him in her excitement. "I'll enjoy it with you!"
Bouncing around so that she was back in the water up to her calves, she leaned down and scooped up some water in her hands, watching it trickle between her fingers. "I like it here too," she said decisively. "It's very pretty. And cool. And swimming is fun!" Jahzara beamed back to Levi, prancing back to him with a merry swing of her tail. It was her friend, at one of the coolest spots ever, and he was sharing it with her; she was terribly pleased, feeling extremely lucky that she'd gone to the beach on this particular day.

Leviathan didn't like sharing his beach, but Jahzara could definitely be his exception. They were already friends, so it wasn't a big deal. They could play! Leviathan usually just did surfing, and that was all, so something new would be a nice change of pace. "So, what do you want to play?" he asked her, stepping sideways to stretch his arms over his head. Good thing she knew how to swim. That meant they could play in the water!
"There's all kinds of water games, y'know. Like water polo. But I can't play that. But. Uh. Tag. And splash wars! And swim races, and even surfing." He couldn't help himself. With surf and wind and his board at his side, Leviathan couldn't keep every single thought away from it. It was the greatest love of his life! "D'you like surfing?" he asked, tipping his head to one side.

"Hmm," was Jahzara's deep and insightful answer, jutting her lower lip out and peering skybound as she thought. What could they play? There were no swings, but there was a lot of water, and all the things Levi was listing sounded delightful. Then he touched on a subject she should have thought of before, but being as ADD as she had a tendancy to be, had not previously considered.
"Surfing?" she repeated quizically. "I've never surfed. Is that what that's for?" Jahzara pointed at the board she had wrestled, tilting her head to the side and flicking one round ear. She'd seen people on them out in the water, but it never made sense to her, standing on the things only to get washed aside. Seemed like they were challenging the waves and failing miserably.
That made her giggle. "You surf?" she asked the obvious, but hey, better safe than sorry.

"Duh! Of course that's what it's for!" Leviathan laughed, reaching over to grab his blue-and-yellow board. He tucked it under his arm and motioned for Zara to follow his lead. "You paddle it out to where the swells are, see, and then you wait for the wave you want and you have to paddle real hard to catch it right when it breaks and then you ride it all the way down and it's THE GREATEST THING EVER!" Leviathan explained, all in one breath.
"You wanna try?"

The girl looked between her friend and where he indicated, intelligent eyes lingering on the surfers that were visible to her, watching them catch the cresting wave to be carried back to the beach. Jahzara smiled widely at Levi, nodding her head. "Yeah! But, I wanna watch you first." She was eager to try, but she wasn't dense enough to think she'd get it on the first try. "That way I can see what you do."
Really, the girl was likely too high-strung to be attempting such a feat, but she wanted to surf with Leviathan, dangit! She glanced over to her father as if in askance for permission, of which the man gave a singular bemused nod and moved onto a clear patch of white sand to set up a place to stay and watch. Jahzara clapped her hands and started to wade out into the water, her tail twitching back and forth with excitement.

Leviathan cackled with delight, nearly bouncing where he stood. "Just remember, I'm AWESOME," he said, a huge grin on his face. He grabbed his board and gave Zara a big thumbs up before wheeling around and bounding into the waves as far as he could. He threw down the board and jumped on top, easily paddling out to wear the other surfers mingled. Little Leviathan found his own space and waited for a good swell to come.
There was one! He settled back down and paddled as hard as he could. The wave came and picked him up, up, up! The boy clamored to his feet and stuck his arms out as he balanced, sliding down the crest and through the tube. The wave came down with a deafening crash, soaking Leviathan as he scooted out. He flopped down, giggling happily to himself as he looked around and waved to Zara. He paddled back in after a few moments and waved again. Wasn't he just awesome?

Jahzara nodded seriously. "I know!" she called as her friend padded out, returning his thumbs up with an enthusiastic version of her own. She watched, owl-eyed as he caught the water and manuevered the board, using his weight and balance to successfully surf the waves. The way he managed to do it and still come out on top was utterly amazing. The girl was in awe as she stared.
"That was AWESOME!" she bellowed with delight, bouncing up and down in the water and clapping her hands. He expression glided between a teeth-baring grin and an 'O' of amazement. "I can't do that," she said more to herself than him, enthralled. "I mean I can try, but do THAT? No way." Jahzara sighed wistfully, watching her friend with admiration. He was so cool!

Leviathan continued to make his way into shore. Once the water was shallow enough, he jumped back in and ran the rest of the way to shore. He bounced up next to Zara and held his board close. "Well, you'll need a board first," he commented, oblivious to the fact she just might want to share his. His board was the most important thing he owned. Sharing never even crossed his mind. It was his, his, his! "I can show you a really good store, if you want." Nevermind they were expensive, or anything.
He stretched and shook his head, pushing sopping bangs out of his face. "Or I could just, you know, show you again." The lobster-boy smirked his most charming smirk. He couldn't resist showing off. He knew he was good. He loved being good. He loved other people telling him how good he was! "It was pretty cool."

The cat-girl turned to regard her father at the prospect of a board, but he was either not listening or pretending not to, which made the idea of buying one somewhat moot. Sighing, Jahzara looked mournfully to her friend, as if she'd just been told she wouldn't have any supper rather than the possible opportunity of buying a surf board passing her by. She lit up as he mentioned doing it again; while she was playful herself, she did so adore to watch others do what they loved. She found contentment in the joy of her friends.
"Yeah! Do it again!" she egged him on, bouncing closer and grabbing his arm in a half hug. "You looked soooo cool, I wish I had a camera! I'd hang your picture up in my room!" she chattered happily, releasing him so he could go back out. "I'll cheer you from the surf, I can't go out too far since I'm so small!"
