Leviathan wasn't used to being kicked out of the house. When he was younger, Sable would trap him inside until he came home from work. Very rarely would he be allowed out with Saint or Rook, or heaven forbid, Juno. But now, he was allowed to go out whenever he wanted, as long as he told someone where he was going and when he'd back back. And today, Sable made him leave. Something about being too loud and obnoxious and having a headache, or something. Now, Levi didn't mind one bit. It was a beautiful day!

So the child changed into his wetsuit and his swim trunks and grabbed his surfboard. It only took twenty minutes to get to the ocean by bike, and only ten mintues from there to get to the side without the boats. Usually, it was pretty abandoned. People liked to see the boats when they walked, which was fine with Leviathan. He didn't like sharing his surfing space with shoebies. He grabbed his surfboard and jumped down the old wooden steps, bounding for the waves when he spotted another person on his beach. Leviathan screeched to a halt, tripping and nearly falling over his own feet.

Once balanced, he waved with his free hand. "Hello there!" More importantly, why was she on his beach?

Sophia was growing used to being on her own in "safe" places. Rye was flighty and independent and seemed to assume the same for her young charge. So she had no problem bringing Sophia somewhere and leaving her to her own devices. She had an odd job today, one that she didn't bother explaining to Sophie, and decided the beach would a delightful place for the girl to spend her day.

The truth was, Sophie wasn't all to fond of the warm weather. It wasn't too bad, since it was only April, but she already missed the chill of winter. But at least, being on the shore, there was a cooling breeze. She had walked awkwardly along the open beach, not used to manuvering in the sand even with sandles, and stopped not far from the sea foam that lapped up. She felt the wind tug at her skirt and long hair as she gazed out at the blue horizon. It really was peaceful here-

"Eh?" she whirled around, nearly loosing her balance as she got sand in her shoes. She hadn't known anyone else was here, so she had been surprised by the greeting. Relaxing a little she waved and replied politely, "Hello."

Leviathan frowned and tipped his head to one side. There was a girl on his beach. Why was there a girl on his beach? More importantly, why was she dressed so pretty like that? Beaches were for fun and swimming and rough housing. She'd get all wet and ruin her dress. Not that Leviathan ever minded ruining his clothes, but he was pretty sure everyone else got mad at him when he did it. Weird.

So the lobster boy trotted closer to the stranger, stopping a foot or so away from her. "Hi," he said again, planting his blue-and-yellow board in the sand. "I'm Leviathan," he introduced himself, offering his hand like his dad had showed him how. It was polite, or something. And Leviathan wasn't usually a very polite person, but something about the girl made him feel a little compelled to be. "Who are you? Why are you on my beach?" he asked bluntly.

Well, who said anything about remember all of manners?

"I'm Sophia," she offered hesitantly, reaching out with small fingers to take his hand. Before she made the shake, however, she pulled it back in surprise at his questions, which in her ears sounded like accusations. She fumbled, embaressed, mainly because she certainly hadn't known where her mother had dropped her off. She didn't know it belonged to someone.

She ducked into a rickety curtsy, pulling on her short summer skirt. "I'm sorry," she murmured politely, but still sincere. She looked a little fretful, "I...I didn't know this beach was yours....Momma....Momma told me to spend the day here."

Leviathan frowned as the promise of a cautious shake turned into no shake at all. What was wrong? He looked down at his hand with a puzzled look; did he have something on it? Upon inspection, he discovered the only thing 'on' his hand was his shell...did she not like his shell? Leviathan blushed a little and pulled his hand back, making like perhaps he was just fixing his hair, or something. Very smooth, Leviathan, very, very smooth.

"Oh," he said quietly, looking back out towards the water. Well. "I guess it's okay, then. If your Momma said so." He shrugged and looked back at Sophia. There really wasn't much he could argue with, not against a mother. They had a weird talent for being right about things. "You can go swimming with me, if you want?" he offered, feeling like maybe he should make up for being kind of mean before.

Sophia looked immediately relieved when he agreed that it was alright that she stay, her body relaxing swiftly to the point where she hadn't realized how stiffly she'd been standing. She'd been afraid of being kicked out...or worse, staying and knowing she shouldn't. At least that was now resolved and she felt better for it.

At his offer, though, blood filled her face. "I'm...not a very good swimmer," she admitted shamefully. Twisting her fingers against the edge of her skirt she snuck a glance out at the water. The look was a longing one. She really did want to go out in the water. It looked so nice.

Didn't know what to swim? Who didn't know how to swim? Leviathan shook his head and chuckled a little. "You don't have to know how to swim to go into the water, you know," he informed her. He turned and started off towards the waves, waving his hand as he went. Surfboard in tow, he didn't look back until the waves were licking at his feet.

"So, just take off your shoes, and you can just wade out as far as you want," he said, kicking at a wave sliding in. "And you don't need to swim to just play, yeah?" He nodded, turning to Sophia and motioning for her to join. "You just have to know how to swim to surf," he said proudly, hugging his board close, "not to play." He needed to repeat that. So she'd understand.

Hesitantly she did as he had suggested. She lifted one foot, using her hand to slip off her sandal, and then switched to do so with the other. Her skin prickled at the feel of sand along the senstaive soles of her feet. But it was smooth and warm, so she found it wasn't all that bad. Leaving her shoes she began to take slow, careful steps down the beach. At first her movements were stiff, over-cauctious. But as she drew closer to the water her strides lengthened and she even jogged along with childhood grace on the balls of her feet.

At the water's edge, however, she dodged away from the waves. It was only after a few turns of the water did she brave throwing her feet in. And when she did she cried out.

"It's cold!" She gasped, surprised.

Leviathan couldn't help but laugh at the way Sophia dodged the waves like little birds did when they didn't want to get washed away. "Of course it's cold, it's the ocean!" he crowed, happily splashing around in the surf. "It's really fun to run around and jump the surf," he informed the girl, oblivious to the fact that getting completely soaked might not be her idea of fun. Instead, he took a great running start and...

...bellyflopped right beside her! He popped back up, teal locks plastered to his face as he laughed out loud. "See? No swimming," he smiled.

"Eeeeek!" Sophie shrieked with a mix of delight and shock as his bellyflop drenched her in water past her waste. Goosebumps sprang up along her skin and she instinctively crossed her arms for warmth.

"Don't do that!" she cried, though any serious plea in her voice was disolved by compulsive laughter. She tried to hide her sudden smile and giggles as she spun away from him and danced into slightly deeper water, nowing coming up past her knees as opposed to her ankles. Being in the water felt better than being wet and out of it, where the breeze would tickle the water right off you.

"Seeeee?" Leviathan chirped, pulling himself to his feet. He shook his head, sending salt-water spraying everywhere. "It's fun!" he insisted, throwing himself back in. The sun was shining, the breeze was mild and the waves were fantastic. It was a great day to be at the beach. And with that thought, he jetted forward, kicking his feet around wildly and making a great splash.

"Want to play tag?" he offered.

It was fun, she had to admit, even if it was a bit startling. She squeaked again as the remnents of a wave crashed into her. She stumbled back a few steps, but it was nothing serious. But if that was one of the little waves, she couldn't imagine how strong the big ones were!

As it passed the looked quickly in his direction, answering cheerfully without any thought at all, "Sure!" It was only afterwards that she realized it'd probably be a pretty one sided game. She wasn't a super fast runner, though she did have long legs, and she couldn't swim. Oh well. Who said you needed to win to have fun...?

Leviathan was mildly surprised Sophia agreed to play with him, especially after the way she shirked at his hand when he offered to shake, but he wasn't about to argue. "Okay!" he replied happily, shaking himself off. "I'll be 'it' first," he said, feeling gracious. It was his game, after all, and he was the boy, and his daddy said that mattered and...

Leviathan shook his hear, realized all this thought was letting Sophia get away. The lobster-boy sprung forward in a less-than-graceful leap, hurtling waves and barely managing to keep himself on his feet as he bounded towards Sophia. "Watch out!" he crowed gleefully, water splashing everywhere. He didn't really care about winning, either. He just loved running through the water.

Upon realizing he was it she whirled around with startled cry and began to strint off down the beach. Her feet pattered through the shallows, leaving small footprints that were quickly washed away by the sea-foam. She was instantly glad she had worn a short shirt and taken off her shoes. Now she could run as fast as she could without any problems.

One problem she couldn't get rid of, though, was her hair. It was so long that it got in her face and she was constantly trying to keep it from her eyes. She threw it out of her face as she peeked over her shoulder in delighted panic to see how close she was to being caught.

Leviathan was pleased Sophia actually knew how to play. Good. This was very good. And she was fast, too, so the little lobster-boy didn't have to worry about trying to fake it to make the girl feel better. But she could only keep away for so long, you know. Leviathan sprinted and made a wild dive, reaching for Sophia in the most epic way possible.

He splashed down a moment later, entire body crashing into the water. He had grabbed Sophia, didn't he? Did he take her down too? Leviathan sat up, spitting out some salt water and wiping his hair away from his eyes. He blinked and wiped the water away too. "Sophia?" he asked. Did he get her?
