It was a chilly day, despite the sun being out. Naomi made her way cautiously through the liberty center towards the playground by the school. In her arms squirmed a little brown bundle that was desperate to get down.

"Kaimi... stop... squirming..." Naomi muttered, trying to balance the wriggling toddler and the little bag with the kid's stuff in it without dropping either of them. Kaimi let out a few squeals and giggles, thinking this trying to escape from her mother's arms was some kind of delightful new game, and increased her efforts.

Finally, with a relieved sigh, Naomi came across the playground and flopped onto the ground, letting go of Kaimi who, now that she was free, was gazing around with her wide wonderstruck eyes and sitting quite quietly while she took it all in, the very image of a sweet obedient little girl. Heh.

Carol was not all together certain she belonged here as she watched Bishop walk slowly around the playground. The woman wasn't all that certain about this Liberty center place but when she'd spotted the flyer for it description of it sounded fairly nice. A safe place for Bishop to play away from the the crowds that a usually filled all of the places Gaian children played. Or so she hoped anyways, for the moment the playground seemed fairly quiet.

Keeping Carol in her peripheral vision Bishop slowly walked around the bench where she sat. It was good to be out of the store where she was usually sitting or laying. It was the sound of another child high pitched squeals that got the young girls attention and her head instantly snapped in their direction. Amber eyes watched the child and adult pair carefully, uncertain of what to make of them.

Kaimi grinned widely. She'd taken in the play equipment and the vast expanses of grass perfect for running in. She'd taken in the blue sky and the small creatures crawling their way across the ground. The little toddler had sat perfectly still while her big eyes explored her surroundings. And now, now she was ready to play.

There was something, though, that she hadn't seen. She saw it now, though. More people. There was a big one, and there was one just her size too! The sweet scent that surrounded the little girl grew suddenly stronger with her excitement. Raising both hands in the air, Kaimi waved them in a salutation to the other little girl. Then, with a delighted little laugh, she started toddling towards the other end of the park where Bishop wandered.

Naomi watched her new daughter heading determinedly away, and glanced in the direction. Ah! More people! That was nice... Raising her own hand, she gave the other guardian a friendly wave, gauging her reception before she, too, went to see about making a friend.

Bishop couldn't help but smile as a pleasingly sweet filtered into her nose. Though she wasn't certain why it was happening and at her age couldn't really connect the scent to the approaching girl she was happy nonetheless. Walking unsteadily over to meet the other girl she waved a greeting of her own. " Hi, I'm Bishop" she called out her voice clear but not overly loud or strong.

Carol nodded in recognition of the woman headed towards her though she didn't stand. She'd been standing all last week at work and she'd walked all the way here. Her feet needed a bit of time off, besides they'd only end up up sitting again anyways.

As birds winged their way across the sky and the sun shone down warming rays of unobstructed or filtered light it seemed like all was well.

Kaimi smiled broadly. "I'm Kaimi!" The little tyke was confident and cheerful, and then her wide golden eyes spotted Bishops head wings. "Ohhh..." She said softly, starting to reach out, but stopping her hand before she actually touched the other girl, something telling her it might not be okay. "Preetty feathers." She gazed at them in amazement for a moment or two, and then seemed to snap out of it. "Wanna play?"

Naomi hauled the little backpack over to the bench where the other woman sat, and settled next to her, smiling out at the children. "Oh thank god... you've got one too. Maybe they can keep each other occupied." She extended a hand in friendly greeting. "I'm Naomi. Thats Kaimi, my... daughter." She said that last word softly, as if still getting used to the feel of it on her tongue. The wonderment of the task she'd been entrusted with.

Kaimi, it was a nice sounding name Bishop thought. The owl girl froze as Kai's hand reached out towards her, the movement hadn't been fast or sharp but it started her nonetheless and she wasn't sure what to do. Fortunately, becuase she wasn't quite ready for a lot of physical contact from strangers, she wasn't actually touched just admired.

At the other girl's question she broke out of her trance and grinned. Of course she wanted to play, that's why she was here. " Yes, we can use those" She pointed towards a pair of strange painted creature that stood on one bendy metal leg. She had seen them yesterday on a t.v thing. If you sat on them they rocked back and forth.

Carol reached out and grasped the others woman's hand firmly for a handshake. " I'm Carol and my little girl is Bishop." She had caught the soft emphasis in Naomi's statement but wasn't sure how to react and thus let it be for the time being.

" They seem to be getting along for the moment." It was a reassuring thoughy and Carol chalked it up to the girl's age. they were at the young fairly trusting stage in life before you had a chance to know that the world wasn't all happiness. To be honest Carol hoped Bishop could keep that frame of mind for a while.

Kaimi's gaze drifted over to the creatures. She wasn't sure what they were, not having had the benefit of seeing that tv program. She actually hadn't seen any tv yet... Naomi had one, but she never seemed to turn it on. She liked being outside better... but that was okay. So did Kaimi.

"Yeah... lets use those!" Again, the sweet scent of flowers grew stronger as her excitement rose. Kaimi headed determindly toward the strange bendy legged creatures, pausing to make sure her new friend was coming too.

Naomi watched the kids interacting, and smiled. "Nice to meet you, Carol. Bishop is a lovely little girl. Did she come straight from the cabbage?" Not knowing how the two had come together, she just automatically assumed Carol had adopted her daughter straight from the Liberty Center as she had.

Although the flower scent had gotten stronger Bishop still hadn't connected it to Kaimi and only really took notice at all becuase it was calming and yet invigorating in a way. Grinning the toddler raced towards the brightly painted beasts, she wanted the yellow one with the big orange nose so she had to get to it first.

As luck would have it she did indeed get to her chosen ride first. Now all she had to do was figure out how to get on it without falling off. The silly thing's one leg made it bend when she tried to climb up. Mistaking the foot pedals as feet she hadn't though to use them to help her get up. With an easily distracted mind she didn't quite remember all she had seen on the T.V the other day.

" Cabbage, I don't know anything about a cabbage she just showed up in my store last week." Carol thought about what to say carefully, she couldn't reveal much of anything to this stranger, this non member. " I've never heard of a child coming from a cabbage before but it must have been interesting."

Kaimi had her eye on the big grey one with the horn on it's face. She somehow managed to scramble up on top of the thing... sort of. Not having planned for the slippery surface of the creature, she was sort of laying across it on her belly trying to squirm her way up when she slid off and fell to the ground with a soft "Oof". Not a child to be discouraged, she got right back up and this time managed to get herself seated on the wobbly thing, laughing with excitement. She looked over to see if her friend had managed to find a way onto hers yet too.

Naomi blushed a little. "Oh... I'd thought, since you were here, that you'd gotten Bishop from the Liberty Center too. They just gave me a cabbage, and a few days layer Kaimi popped right on out of it." She laughed a little. "It's certainly an adventure, being a parent."

Having also tried the belly technique Bishop was about to slide off again one one of her feet connected with the footbar and allowed her enough stability to get herself onto the duck. Still, the girl hugged the ride tight as it swayed under her weight and from the motions of her attempts to get on.

Once she felt slightly safer Bishop sat up, looked over at Kaimi and gave a soft giggle. " It's fun." Bishop got a kick out the fact that she was both moving and not moving at the same time.

Carol shook her head " No I just found a flier for this place and it seemed Ok to bring Bishop here.Nothing on it said anything about cabbages, at least that I recall." Carol still wasn't sure exactly where Bishop had come from but the idea of her coming from a cabbage seemed amusing if unlikely.

"I agree with the parenting thing, I haven't been doing it very long but it is interesting and very hectic. I didn't realize children were this much work. I swear I owe my mother some apologies." Although according to her parents Carol hadn't been a particularly difficult child.

Kaimi grinned back at Bishop, bouncing and rocking wildly on her own toy, clinging to the little handles like lifelines. "Race you!" She said, rocking even faster. The fact that she was rocking in place didn't seem to have anything to do with this imaginary race. Indeed, the thought didn't even cross her mind.

Across the playground, Naomi nodded at the other woman. "Bishop certainly seems like a good girl, though. Then again, so does my Kaimi. Good... just, exuberant. I dont know how to keep up with her. Your little one has lovely wings..."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 24, 2008 12:41 pm

" Ok!"Bishop exclaimed before leaning forward to make her ride sway in that direction. The little girl's eyes narrowed and focused on a distant tee at the far end of the park. for her hat was the goal and that's where she was racing towards. " Please go fast" she whispered to the toy as she rocked it harder.

"Mmhmm, cute they are if fussy to deal with, it's a lot work to keep them dry and clean." Wet feathers were rarely a good thing and messy children with an itchy head scratched it which meant so far Carol had found chip crumbs, bits of bread and mustard in her hard and on the fluffy down of the headwings.

Although Carol was listening and talking to Naomi her gaze was centered on the girl's just in case. The toy they had chosen was fun for them but a bit nervewracking for her, falling from them would not be a fun experience.

" Are you raising Kaimi alone?" The question was sudden but the thought had just occurred to her.

Kaimi rocked her creature as if her life depended on it, laughing gleefully. She could almost feel the wind in her hair... the miles being eaten away... she was going so fast! Completely caught up in the "race" she glanced towards Bishop, a big grin on her face. She didn't really care wether she won or lost (and she didn't fully comprehend they weren't actually going anywhere, so lost was she in the game) she was simply having too much fun.

Naomi's smile faltered momentarily, then brightened her face again. "Yep, it's just me and Kaimi. Just the two of us." She, too, was watching the children play, happy that the girls seemed to be having fun. "And you? Are you Bishop's sole caretaker, or do you have help?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 29, 2008 5:56 am

Bishop's hair stroked the side of her face as it was swept forward and back in time with the rocking motion of the girl. A wide grin was plastered on her face and the occasional giggle erupted from her lips. "We're almost there" she called out to her friend before focusing her eyes on the target again. Eyes which even for a child held a gleam of competitiveness in them.

Carol shook her head " I raise Bishop alone, I have family and friends though to help me if I need it and provide positive male role models.. well semi positive at least. Depends on the friend in question." An amused look crossed the woman's face as she spoke. " But yes at home it's just all all day, I hope that will make us closer and not pull us apart." Carol gave a soft sigh." kids today are nothing like we were as kids and it's so hard to predict anything"

Kaimi leaned forward, urging her mount forward and grinning back at Bishop. "Look! I can see the finish line! Look at all the people cheering for us!" She tried to rock even faster, eyes shining with excitement. Apparently not a competitive child, Kaimi just wanted her toy to go fast.

Naomi nodded. "No... kids today aren't anything like we used to be. Then again, I was raised on Earth, not on Gaia. Earth children are particularly terrible these days." Her brow furrowed with concern. "It's just me and Kaimi... I dont know anyone who could lend a male influence. I... dont have a great deal of friends here and my parents are back on Earth. And I'd much prefer them to stay there. I hope it doesn't negatively effect her development..."
