Click to show.Blind eyes stared blankly at the ground before the Nightmare's large body, ears folded back against his head to keep whatever flying insects were about out of them. He could hear the sound of water loud and clear, however, and he knew that he was only mere feet from the waves gently lapping against the lakeside. Curling his tail about his side, he blinked slowly, listening contentedly to the sounds about him for a moment. He then huffed after a minute or so, ruffling his fur.

After all, you could only sit and listen for so long- boredom was already starting to creep into his restless body, and inwardly he longed for something to do- one of his own to talk to, something to chase, anything. A low snort came from his throat as he clacked his beak impatiently, contemplating what his next move should be.

User ImageAzren was not left wondering what to do for long. A low rumble travelled through the soil, and soon he could hear the bleating of deer, and the thunder of a hundred different hooves pounding into the dirt. Something had started a stampede through the forest, and it was headed right for him.

"Foolish ssssnacks!"

A voice roared out from the wilderness. It was low and raspy, but undeniably feminine. She must be somewhere behind the herd. Her voice was full of anger, and longing, and the joy of the hunt.

"Know your plassssse!"

Ears immediately swiveling towards the source of the sound, Azren leapt as gracefully as he could to his feet, tongue licking the air as he caught the scent of not only deer, but of another Nightmare. He was, needless to say, heavily startled as it dawned upon him that the herd was headed in his direction. Rather than foolishly turning tail and running, he stood his ground, ears flattened against his cranium, blind eyes staring blankly before him. Opening his maw, a large, bellowing roar came from his throat, scattering the deer around him.

A broad grin curled across his lips as he sensed the deer moving away, expression widening a tad after he noticed that he had indeed been untouched in the encounter. Turning his head to the other kitsusagi that was before him, his tails writhed in anticipation behind him.

"And what... may I ask, would you... be chasing so many deer at... once for?" he inquired, one ear swiveling towards her, the other to the side as he heard soft hooves on the ground again, "Surely they must hold... your attention for one reason or... another."

Godiva's ears perked and her body tensed. The sound of hooves wa already fading. Adrenaline from the hunt was still coursing through her veins and there was no food to sate her hunger and she wanted blood and bone and flesh and that wonderful, elusive fullness that never quite came within her grasp.

Her deer were gone her deer were gone HER DEER were GONE!!! The ones sh had spent DAYS scenting out along the Mountain trails!

Godiva stalked over in the direction of the blabbering idiot, scenting the musk of his sweat on the wind. Then she raised her powerful claws and slapped him in the face.

"Hunting foodssss! Foodsssss which are GONE now, thankss to YOU!"

The very air vibrated with her sibilant hiss of rage.

"Perhapssss I will eat YOU insssstead."

Azren could almost taste the apprehension in the air as he stood, feet firmly upon the ground, facing the other. He stiffened as she approached, realizing now that she was both younger and smaller than he. As he went to relax, he was caught quite off guard by a powerful swat to the face, the teenager's claws catching him just below his eye. An angry growl came from his throat as he side-stepped away from her, tails wringing themselves in knots as he did so. What a brat...

"Relax..." he snapped softly, turning his head a bit to face her general direction, "If you would like, I would lend you a hand... with your hunt. I have not much else to... do these days, anyway." He felt like an idiot for throwing the idea out there, but it was the least he could do. The female seemed quite distraught and angry that she had lost her prey, and for the life of him he couldn't figure out why.

"I wouldn't... advise that," he replied to her second comment, tongue flicking the air softly as he did so, "You would probably find... that deer are much easier... prey."

Godiva perhaps should have been more wary of smacking adults like that. But she had grown up in a world of injections and mutants and strange explosions in the night, and her adoptive Daddy was physically much weaker than her. The teenager had never been taught the meaning of fear.

"Yessss... huntingssss! You will find and chassse them towardssss me. Then I will bites headsss off."

Godiva nodded, settling on the idea as though she had come up with it herself.

"Isss very tasssty, deer. I hunger."

No matter how many times she said it, no one ever seemed to understand just how hungry she really, truly was. It was more than a feeling or an instinct. It was a part of the very fabric of her being, primal and unstoppable, a craving so powerful that it was more like a geas.

The male wasn't quite sure that he liked the idea, but it was better than being screeched at for a while. If there was anything he didn't want to do, it was to come between the raving teenager and her food. Shaking his head roughly once or twice, his ears flicked towards her location. So she hungered? Well, join the club...

There was something in the way she said 'hunger', however, that confused him. It wasn't a bland, normal way of needing a meal three times a day, it was an exasperated sound that came from her throat, an urge that couldn't quite be met. If he were any other kitsusagi, he'd shudder at the thought, but it was not unlike his race to have strange attributes attached to them.

"Deal," he growled softly in reply, turning to head off after the deer, "If you... follow at a distance, you will... catch them faster than waiting here." His tongue flicked the air, scenting that the deer were indeed still close by- luckily enough for him, at the least. If she had been chasing them already today, then they were at least worn down.

"Issss fine," Godiva confirmed.

She tried to imprint the older male's scent on her memory, before he headed out to aid her hunt. If he betrayed her and ate all the deer then she would find him and there would be unpleasant consequences.

Godiva was all clotted blood and rock dust, but this other kitsu smelled cleaner. A little like pine needles. She wished she had Desdemona's eyes to borrow, but the little imp was off sulking about some imaginary slight that Daddy had committed. Godiva didn't understand why so many kitsu got all flustered about experiments. Experimental waste was a very delicious delicacy!

"I will eatssss seven or eightsss," she allowed, with a wave of her paw. "You can have othersss."

Seven or eight? Damn... Azren himself could only eat two or three on his own, and that was after a long bout of hunger. His tongue licked the air once or twice more as he trotted off after the deer, scenting both his prey and the younger Nightmare. He didn't want to chase down the animals and lose track of her now, did he?

Tails flicking slightly irritably behind him, he pushed quickly through the forest, drawing closer to the small herd with every step. They had stopped, apparently; the young one must have tired them out considerably. Although he couldn't see them, he could definitely smell them- something he was quite glad for. Coming wide around the side of them, he stopped for a moment, trying to lock in on their location. What he wouldn't give for Alraos' eyes at this point...

Satisfied, he darted quickly from the woods after them, large paws making a hollow sound against the ground as they fell. The deer scattered quickly, recognizing that this creature was much like the one they had just run from- only larger and with eyes.

Of course, the deer didn't know that he couldn't actually see.

Jaws snapping with a deep growl, Azren shook his head as he bolted just behind them. Why was he doing this again? To keep that kid from coming after him? Not exactly a fair trade, but it didn't matter to him. At least this was more exciting than lying in the sun for hours.

Godiva cleared the various nuisances of the forest from her mind. Birds chirped, but she refused to hear them. Ticks burrowed into her fur, biting her flesh for the blood within, but she paid them no mind. The only thing she needed to think about was the thundering of hooves against the hard-packed dirt. The only way to sate her hunger was to banish everything else away and fosu entirely on the task at hand.

A frightened young buck sped past her. She sprung up from the pile of dead leaves she'd been hiding in, hurtled herself into its path, and tore at out its throat while it heaved and bucked.

There was a crunch of bone and a jet of hot blood and it was good, so good, that for a tiny fraction of a moment, she didn't feel hungry at all, and everything was right with the world.

Azren barely had time to spot the other leap from a pile of leaves before the buck was down on the ground. Lengthening his strides, his large, black paws closed in on a small doe, easily taking her down to the ground beneath him. Crimson splashed across the dirt, before he leapt up again to circle around the side of the herd once more. He would probably come back for that one later, once the younger Nightmare had been satisfied.

Azren's tongue flicked the air- they were near water again. Instinctively, he ran them towards the shore of the pond, hoping they would be stressed enough to merely dive into its waters. After that, the herd could be singled out one by one.

"Try antlersss," Godiva advised her new hunting partner. "Isss crunchy."

Bone snapped and cracked between her jaws, pulverized into a fine dust. Marrow was one of the best snacks she could think of. It was hot, and chewy, and filled her right up.

She stalked lazily towards the sound of deer splashing in the water, a grin painted on her blood-stained maw.

She wasn't a bad hunter, at least- Azren had been half-worried at the start that the teenager would be less than sub-par at catching her meal. To his delight, however, she seemed to have no trouble at all. Which meant less work on his end to help her gain a sense of contentment. Hearing the snapping noise, his ear swiveled to her, lips pulling back into a grin at her comment. Antlers, hmm? He had never tried eating them, but he presumed that they must taste well enough if she was wolfing them down without a problem.

His large ear twitched again as he listened to her approach, cranium turning back to the waters. "I presume... you do not mind the water." he commented off-handedly, claws digging into the soft, lakeside loam, "I am sure that this... hunt will be far more... interesting now." A low, deep laugh came from his throat. "Their fear is tangible... one could almost taste it in the... air."

"Do like tassssting thingsssss," Godiva admitted.

The femme seemed to have a very one-track mind. She stalked forward to dip her claws in the edge of the lake, but was not at all in a hurry to clean the blood and gore off of her fur. If she get hungry for flesh later, she could always give her fur a lick and remember better times. Sometimes that sort of thing was the only way to resist gnawing off her own limbs.

"Fishessss in the waterssss." She remembered Seiji's hunting lesson. "You want deers? Or fishessss? Fishesss and deersssss together would be differentssss."

Azren's ear flicked again as he heard her hit the water, noting that she stopped before she went very far in. His tongue flicked out from behind his beak, catching the scent of the frantic deer paddling through the water as well as the blood that lingered on the other's coat. He figured she would either leave it or wash it away later- not now while the smell of the hunt was so fresh in the air.

"I can settle for... either." he replied, taking a few steps forward before his large paws touched the cool water of the lake as well. His blind eyes blinked once or twice, tails swatting back and forth behind him. "It does not make... a difference to me." It was true- at the moment, either one would make do for a large snack. Maybe he would indeed try both at the same time- he wasn't sure about the taste, but perhaps it would prove something worth trying. He scented the air again, ears swiveling to listen to the sounds of deer splashing about in the water.

"I believe... I will allow you to go first." he stated, nodding his head as he spoke, "They were your prey... first, after all." Call it being gentlemanly, but Azren would never get in the way between a hungry kinsman and their catch.
