Dawn was a special time to Serithi. The cool air of the night still lingered over the rogue lands and a chorus of crickets sang themselves to sleep, a lullaby that started at a din and slowly hush into a drowsy murmur. The hunter was up before the sun, sliding effortlessly off the sleeping ledge of his cave half-concious with the familiarity of a routine practiced thousands of times before. Outside his home, he allowed himself a long, langorous stretch before he took off, racing through the grasslands on an early morning run. He followed a wild path racing through the brush to the jungle's edge, then up toward the canyon peaks. When the first fingers of dawn began to caress the ever fleeing night, he turned back towards home.

When the sun in all his glory finally raised his head over the edge of the horizon, he found the hunter as he always did. Bright rays of golden lights spilled over bronze and copper pheasant feathers, long horns of the water buffalo, spired horned skulls of antelope and wicked crocodile teeth. Serithi sat at his altar to the Hunt God and thought.

User ImageGreen paws moved almost silently across the ground. The lioness's golden eyes scanned her surrounds. Where she was, she wasn't exactly sure, all she knew was that she was coming from her pride, and moving towards the unknown. She was hoping to find someone, a long lost.. friend. But he could be anywhere in the whole of Africa. Jani sighed helplessly and continued on her way.

At least the night was nearly over. If there was one thing Jani hated more than poisonous gossip of the courts, it was being alone in the darkness. She continued on her way, hoping that someone or something was leading her in the right direction. Otherwise she would be lost forever.

Serithi floated in the comfortable space that was his meditation, his communion with the lives he had taken and the lives he had yet to make. He released his respect for each life into the universe, thanking them for the challenge they gave and the life they provided for him by giving thiers. He thanked the Hunt God for his body free of defect, for his skill and luck in hunting, and the continuity of prey that presented themself to him. He was a fortunate cat and he knew it.

A breeze blew itself into his den, rattling the bones that hung along the walls and stirring the feathers in bright flurries of colors. The faint sounds of footsteps coaxed his relaxed velvet ears to attention. The clever wind carried the scent of a lioness.

This was unusual. The lions of this section of the Rogue Lands knew and respected his territory, and most chose not to challenge his claim. So who was this, so close to his den as the day began?

Moving to the edge of his cave home, Serithi sat, shadowed coat at home in the darkness provided where the new sun failed to illuminated the warm brown walls of his home. Dark eyes studied the tal grass at the border of his clearing with interested and predatory gleam. Watching and waiting...

Whilst Serithi was feeling comfortable where he was, Jani was feeling quite the opposite. The lioness was no fool. She could use her nose, and use it she was. She could smell another creature had been in this area, he still could be. However, Jani wasn't too interested in finding out what it was. She kept on her way.

The lioness did not know that the land belonged to anyone. As far as she thought, and land that was not inhabited by a pride was free pickings. Jani looked to the horizon and noticed the slowly rising, crimson sun. "How beautiful," she whispered to herself.

With the dawning of the sun, Jani had forgotten about the smells she had encountered, and went a short distance to a tree, where she decided she would sit and watch the sun rise.

The lioness moved across Serithi's line of sight. Adult, but young and green as the tender shots of grass in the spring. She wandered through the small patch of land he called his own as though she hadn't a care for her infraction. A low grumbling growl reverberated in his deep barrel chest, vibrating the fur of his charcoal grey pelt.

The sun this morning was red as a hunter's first kill, and it sprayed itself across his body as he stepped from his place, turning his dark coat the color of a half remembered blood bath. He strode purposefully towards the tree, a favored and familiar friend he had slept in many times. His powerful step drew him close on silent paws.

"It is beautiful."
He said from a distance behind her, his tone flat and unamused. " It is also mine."

The green lioness, relaxed by the entrancing colors of the rising sun, was not expecting else would be there to share it with her. When the leopard announced himself, Jani sprang up and shot up the tree. It was the first thing she thought to do. She never fought, she didn't hunt. All she really did was sit around with the other ladies and talk.

Once she had been up the tree for a few moments, she had time to process what the leopard had said. What two very different statements he made, she thought.

"How DARE you suprise me like that." She called from her spot in the tree branches. "How Dare you! Whilst I was sitting there minding my own business. It is despicable!" She looked at the predator before continuing.

"Well, you are a leopard after all. I wouldn't expect you to be very civil!"

Serithi approached the tree in a slow, rolling predator's stalk, head level with fluid shoulders, tail carried airily above the ground. Lazily, he walked his paws up the length of the trunk, stretching luxuriously as the rising sun cast a golden glow to each and every well-honed muscle. He kept the lioness in his gaze, silently remarking how similiar she looked to a large shivering leaf up there in the branches.

He gave her a look that was half snarl, half roughly handsome smile. Dark eyes flashed with dangerous amusement.

"You know, it's not often that a trespasser dares to speak of civility, especially a little lioness, so very alone." He stressed the last phrase with a rumbling growl as he waiting at the foot of the tree, challenging her to make her move.
