She was... Lost. Somehow. She had been playing with her brothers and then their voices had gone quiet. Their laughter had ceased... But she had kept running.

Now... Well, now she had no idea where it was that she had run to. This part of the forest was much darker than the light, airy clearing that they called home. The sun had not yet set but its light did not drift far through the canopy of leaves above. The soil was moist beneath her hooves; rich with a scent that had never touched her nose before. She was so far from home... Would she ever see her family again?

Instead of fretting she held her head high, pressing onwards. Her mother had told her once during a storm that the darkness never lasted forever. It would end somewhere... And when it did? Well, she would find herself home, of course.

The air itself felt heavy, deep old and forgotten with the deep moist odor of moss and the just heard sound of tiny fluttering things against the sound of some hidden fall of water that sounded fairly close.
The stones here were enormous, and some were half swollowed by trees that were bigger around than she was. Some so old that their bark was missing, leaving them wide bone like skelitons of trees, half covered in moss and curled and gnarled into strange shapes.

So still was he, as he rested in the knotwork of one such great tree that grew wide and arcing by a burbling stream, that he might be mistaken for part of the tree itself. Surely the gnarls and twists in his hide did little to make him look mobile, nor the moss that had grown improbably in the twists along his spine, or the cobwebs that hung still heavy with dew from his tattery wings, But those wings, so close in shape to her own moved gently without a breese to stir them, in time instead with the rise and fall of his breathing as he slumbered, or seemed to.

She paused, swallowing hard as she took a step back. Something felt... Strange... Strange in a way that she had never felt before. It was different than the dark of night and not quite the same as the rumble of a storm. She could feel it starting as a tickle on her neck, slowly trailing down her spine. It was almost, almost, like that feeling she got when she was doing something that she knew she wasn't supposed to be doing... And her parents were watching.

Her tail twitched slowly behind her, wings giving a light twitter as she took a step forward. If there was someone watching... Then maybe they would be able to help her find home? "H-hello? Is... Is anyone there?"

It was as though the forest itself sighed... breathing him out into a world that could be seen, instead of just something hovering at the edges of vision. Slowly... slowly wings lifted and stretched out...his hair and beard, dark like damp earth, his eyes strange and dark as they opened and turned to focus on this small intruder.
"Hmmmm?" a rolling noise with the same curious heavy feel to it as the woods around her. "Of course" Dusty almost, like his voice carried cobwebs. "Theirs always -someone- there...." it answered. Shifting slowly to its feet with a fall of leaves and fallen twigs. "Even if its yourself and the forrest"

"I..." Her brow furrowed as she stepped back once more with hesitant uncertainty. She had been warned, of course, that bad things lurked deep in the hidden parts of the woods... But to counter that her mother had also told her that good things did too. Did this voice... Belong to something good? Or bad?

"I knew that." Her own voice danced back and forth between the quivering softness of a frightened child and the bold assertiveness of a child that would, one day, grow into a strong, beautiful mare. "It... Isn't nice to f-frighten others, you know. E-especially not when they're the Princess of the Forest."

His dark eyes sparked with amusement in the low light and he tipped his head to one side, not quite the motion of a stalion, but very -nearly- the shape of one but for the curving dual horns that framed his curiously curled features.

"It's not very polite to wake a sleeper either... but, as you -are- a princess"

One hoof raised towards his chest and the other slid forward through the leaves to drop him into a bow... his neck reaching forward till his small beard tickled the ground. "

She found herself smiling as the tall creature bowed to her, trying her best not to laugh with delight. Every now and then she wound find someone her age that played along with her little games... But rarely, very rarely, would an adult... Other than her father, of course, who seemed to enjoy humoring his only daughter.

"You... Were sleeping?" Her head tilted to the side, smile fading slightly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. I was..." Lost. That was the word she should have said there... But she didn't, for some reason. "... Exploring my kingdom." She nodded slowly. "I've never been here before. Is this your home?"

He straitened slowly like a tree lifting from a heavy wind and nodded most sagely. "One could call it so...It is not an easy place to find, you must indeed be a little wood-sprite to have found your way here, And it's quite alright, I had slept long enough I think..."
He fanned his wings slightly, the cob-webs trailing sleeping from where they had snapped free from where they clung in his slumber.
"Yours is a very expansive kingdom indeed" He said tipping his head to glance up through the heavy leaves, closing his eyes as the wind, high above rustled them into a thin sound like laughter.
"But, where there is a princess, there is also a King, and a Queen... Will they not be worried that their princess is without her guard?"

"The forest is really big, isn't it?" She sighed with a slight flare of dramatics, lowering her head for a brief moment. She could run and run and explore all day and still not see everything or everyone in the forest.

"King and Qu--? Oh! Yes. Mother... And Father." She glanced up once more, little brow furrowing as her delicate wings seemed to droop. "They... Probably will be. Worried, that is. I just..."She frowned, glancing down at the ground before speaking quietly. "I don't know how to find my way back..."

He glanced at her wings and smiled slightly. "If my lady, would accept, perhaps one might be of assistance, and guide you to more familiar trails. You might, find that you can hear them once we draw closer to the kinder woods, the younger ones where things are less wild and wierd." He bowed again with his offer and a small wind, picked up the leaves to dart about him for a moment like pixies with wings like thier own.

"You... Would help me?" She found her smile again as she looked up to him, tail swishing behind her as the excitement of adventure returned to her golden eyes. "I..." She straightened out, acting the part of a princess once more as she tilted her head to the side. "I will accept... If you will also be so kind as to tell me your name first."

His eyes sparkled again, and he looked as though he were considering what she said... "Fauno..." he said, the accent to it strange, rolling like it were from the language of some other beast, stranger perhaps than even 'Man'.

"They call me Fauno... my lady, and my Lady's? Might I have yours? That I might give it should the stones and trees inquire?"

"Fauno." She repeated his name, committing it to the same place as the memory that she had already started to store of this day. Without pondering it for a moment longer she smiled, eyes bright as she tilted her head to look up at the stallion. "Zingela. My name... Is Zingela."

She seemed so serious for a moment after that before a smile crept back into place as she turned, trotting back the way she'd come.

He rose again and followed her with a small 'nicker' deep in his throat, amused perhaps or just a sound he had made as she lead on from where she had come.
His own gate long and careful behind her exuberant youthful steps.
It had been a very long time indeed since there had been anyone so very deep into the woods.
She very much fit into this strange place, and it was odd to see it, more often than not Horses were better suited to the ligther woods or the wide feilds, such was their nature, however.

"Did you find your kingdom Pleasent Princess? Were you not worried by shaddows and age of it? Many are... even queens, or so I am told..." he said, speaking to her as though she were an adult already.

"Why would I be worried about shadows or age?" She glanced back up at him for a moment before glancing at the path ahead of her. "Shadows are a lot like shade... And the shade makes a nice place to rest when the sun gets too hot. Age?" She sighed softly, almost dramatically again, as she pondered that for a bit longer. "If I was just a little bit older then maybe I wouldn't have gotten lo--... Maybe I wouldn't have gotten lost."

There. She'd said it.

Her brow furrowed as she flitted through the woods, attempting to follow the paths that her children had been playing on. She could cover more ground in this smaller size, moving quickly through the trees... But she was also harder to see like this.

Shaking her head she landed, stretching her legs out as she shifted size. She had caught the scent of her daughter on the breeze... She couldn't be all that far.
