WELL?
That tiny wee snippet just at the end of the episode of the Doctor's theme from Series one.
DID YOU HEAR IT? Because I did.
WHAT DOES IT MEEEEAAAN??? Something for sure! They wouldn't have put it there JUST AFTER THE OOD SPOKE OF THE DOCTOR'S SONG ENDING for nothing.

He's either going to end up quitting and they get a new Dr... OR...Dr Who'LL end....But that's happened before....
Tennant has said that he's not pLanning on qutting anytime soon... So the writers are probabLy just getting peopLe nervous....

I'm pretty sure he's leaving at the end of this series. Then they are having a gap year [DDD:] and series five will start in 2010.

But if he's leaving in 2010 (curse him) then he'll leave at the end of series 5. (curse you, David!)

Since the purpose of the 'gap year' is partly to accomadate Tennant's Hamlet, it doesn't make much sense to assume he'd leave before it.
If Tennant was leaving before the gap year, they wouldn't be having a gap year.

If Tennant was leaving before the gap year, they wouldn't be having a gap year. Thank you, Mr. Swift, an excellent point. From what I understood of the situation we were going to have this series, then the gap year with just the three specials (from what I gather all with Tennant), and then another series the year after that. Whether that series was to star Tennant or not is, in so far as I'm aware, unconfirmed. However, following Richard_Swift's logic it seems quite possible that he'll be doing that one as well.

If Tennant was leaving before the gap year, they wouldn't be having a gap year. Except that the gap year wasn't announced until it became publicly known that Tennant was doing Hamlet next year, so it's (in theory at least) possible that the gap year is actually a cover story to explain why Tennant isn't committed to a full season next year without giving away that he's leaving at the end of this year. Not saying that it's necessarily the case, but they (I don't remember if it was the BBC, or just RTD on his own) did initially try to hide the fact that series 2 was Billie Piper's last by saying she had signed on for another season, so they do seem to be willing to throw out false information in the interest of not spoiling the show for everyone. RTD claims the pause was planned to keep the show fresh, but I'm not sure I buy the logic behind that reason. I mean, I could believe something like the BBC figures the show is expensive to produce, so they wanted to cut back on episodes next year to save some money. I could also believe if it was for the sake of Tennant, who might be itching to do something other than Who for a bit. Or, like I said, it could all just be a lie, and we're getting a full season next year with an entirely new new new Doctor...

It has been officially confirmed that there are three specials next year starring David (which begin filming on January 10). After that, it is unknown who will be the Doctor for Series Five, although I have read that David is "informally committed".
As to "your song will end soon", the Ood's song was sad, and the Doctor has a sad song after Rose was trapped in Pete's world. As we all know she is coming back, maybe that is what the Ood meant. The Doctor's sad song will end when they are reunited. The arrangement of the Doctor's theme heard with that line is only ever heard when it is something connected with both Rose and the Doctor (e.g. Bad Wolf, "If you speak to Rose, tell her... Oh, she knows").

The arrangement of the Doctor's theme heard with that line is only ever heard when it is something connected with both Rose and the Doctor (e.g. Bad Wolf, "If you speak to Rose, tell her... Oh, she knows"). I'm thinking roughly the same on this one, but from the context I think it's not quite about happy/sad and more about collective/individual. The Ood, with the circle broken, are back to being a species that share one third of thier mind with each other. Notice the way they address 'DoctorDonna' showing they can't quite conceptualise that they're two seperate entities, rather than a group mind of two. The 'song' that they have resumed is thier union as a consumate collective. They're utterly together. On the other hand, the Doctor is the consumate individual. As the series has pointed out once or twice, he's a bit on the lonely side. What the Ood are offering when they invite him to join their song is an end to loneliness. He doesn't take it the offer of a place in the chorus as he's singing a song of his own - a solo. It's this song that's coming to an end. Looking ahead to the extended family/collective/tribe of companions that we know are in the finale it might seem that its the Doctor's conception of himself as a lone voice that's about to end as he learns that he is part of a bigger harmony. I reckon anyway. wink More of this sort of thing on the Theme-o-Meter tomorrow. You lucky people.
