Every once in a while, you come across a purely awesome game. But also, every once in a while, you come across a horrible game that makes you want to jump out a window. In the case of Manhunt 2, it's the latter. Manhunt 2 is the sequel to Manhunt, a game in which you control some punk who is waging war against the snuff film industry (They were recording and selling tapes of people being tortured and killed). Manhunt 2 has an attempt at PLOT! And it is made by Rockstar Games! Surely they made a good game for once, right?
Plot: You control someone with two personalities, an innocent (Well... semi) scientist and a psychopath. You must escape from a mental ward, find out the keys to your past, and along the way kill people with a variety of weapons. Along your way, you will find freaks in tuxedos, leather BDSM gear *Shudders*, and random gangs and crooked police members.
Graphics: Actually, the blood flow is surprisingly low compared to what you were expecting. That's because this game originally had the Adults Only rating due to the graphic violence (You probably got a nice peak at your victims insides after a few moves). It had to be heavily toned down just to get it on the shelves of regular stores. Anyway, the graphics are nothing impressive. It's generic in some instances, and just sloppy in others.
Gameplay: Moving around is a massive pain in the a**, the hand-to-hand combat system is nothing but one giant !@#$ up, manual shots are next to impossible with most guns, and there are several glitches in which you will be hiding in the shadows in one instance but suddenly in plain view when you are trying to move so you can see what is going on. The big seller of the game (For sick demented bastards) is the execution system, in which you will perform three levels of killing on your enemy (Hasty, violent, gruesome). The more violent your kill, the more points you get. WHY?! Anyway, it is hard to read the tutorial, so it will take you a while to get the execution system down, not to mention sneaking and picking up weapons. It is a miserably failed attempt to combine the systems of Splinter Cell and Silent Hill.
Music: You don't get a lot of music, but it is somewhat decent. But the sound effects and voice acting don't have much to it. Especially between the two main characters. The two major recurring themes are sex and violence in the sounds, as you go through a porno store choking people with plastic bags or bashing their heads in with a nightstick. Or a shoot out in a late night showing of a porn video.
Difficulty: Once you get the trick to it down, there IS no difficulty as far as sneaking around and killing goes, provided that you do it intelligently. But you're not supposed to be intelligent in this game, you're supposed to be psychotic. There are a few difficult instances due to the shoot out system being full of holes, but otherwise, this game is nothing impressive.
Overall: In all my years of gaming, i have yet to see Rockstar release a decent game. Some people may argue in favor of Grand Theft Auto, but i look for quality, not killing random hookers and stealing cars. They should go back to their drawing board and blow it up, the guys at Rockstar are terrible. This game is the worst i have played all year, even worse than the DS Assassin's Creed. There is nothing worth checking out in this game. If you want a good scare and some blood, check out Silent Hill. If you want senseless violence, check out out Mortal Kombat.
