"Before careful not to kick up sand, kiddo," Edge gently reminded as he set Reese down into the sand box. A large bag of tools - shovels, molds, sifters...you name it - was sat down next to the seahorse boy, along with another smaller bag of large plastic, Lego-esque blocks.

"Kay," Reese said absently, already tearing into the bags and pulling out buckets and shovels. He had plans for today...a castle. There was a huge castle with towers and a drawbridge in one of his dragon books. Little tyke was determined to make the biggest sand castle possible!

The father figure grinned as he watched his son get down to work, taking a seat on a bench not too far away.

T'rin was to put it gently, frazzled. He had spent most of the morning trying to keep his new charge from becoming a tasty dragon snack or from destroying her vocal cords. Currently said child was skipping along merrily as if she weren't the most evil thing to ever come in a small cute package. Every now and again the doctor glanced over sideways at the girl. She seemed perfectly normal and the man would firmly face front again. Maybe she was just too cooped up at his brother's place. Maybe this trip would make everything all better? The man winced. Maybe...

Kate skipped merrily along with her new father, excited. They were going to the park! And the mean dragon wasn't coming along either. A brief stormcloud darkened the girl's face as she remembered she still hadn't taught that thing a lesson, though it was quickly shooed away with a squeeze from her daddy's hand. At last they reached the broad expanse of fenced in greenery and she was turned loose. Almost immediately the girl began to race around, not paying attention to where she was going, or what she was running through.

The castle was coming along nicely...at least, to Reese it was. He'd managed to build up a huge (Read: foot tall) pile of sand, separating it into many different piles designated for various tasks. One for each wall, plus two towers, and a bridge that would probably end up being more of a moat with a walkway left in it. But that wasn't the task now. No, the task now was to find something to mold the walls out of. Reese wanted them to be big and strong.

Face deep in one of his bags, rummaging through to the bottom, he wasn't paying attention to much of the surface world . And by the time he came up for air - hand victoriously grabbing a wide, flat piece of plastic - it was too late to save several of his piles from the tromping feet of a certain little girl.

"Hey!" he proclaimed, just a little bit more than disgruntled. He'd follow the footprints to the perpetrator, a deep frown on his face.

"You thmathed my thand!"

Kate was in heaven, getting to run around without being herded here or there or told to get her feet back on the floor this very instant. Eyes closed and arms wide, she barely noticed the change underfoot until a disgruntled voice broke into her happy place.

"Hey! You thmathed my thand!" Kate spun around, about to retort when she got a good look at her accuser. The chihuahua glanced to the side, a frown etched on the girl's face.

"Did not." Kate grumped out.

"Did too!" Reese exclaimed, pointing at the trail of destruction left in the pup's wake. It was clear...the footprints ran right from where she stood through what was once Reese's pride and joy of building material.

"You thathed it!" he said again, brows furrowed to make a crinkle across his forehead. It was an unbecoming sight for him, and a strange one at that; he was usually so happy and carefree that looks like this were reserved for moments of strong disapproval. Like when Poppa didn't come home when he promised to tuck Reese into bed at night...

But what he was looking for now was an apology. That's what you said when you did something bad. At least, that's what Wilbur said. And surely this girl would realize she'd done something bad.

Kate opened her mouth and closed it again, unfamiliar with the strange feeling that she had. It was like when she accidentally scared Cassi or...or.. or when she accidentally scared Cassi or bit Daddy. There! The puppy brightened up, finally fixing on what she had to do.

"Sorry.." Kate muttered quietly, a fairly unfamilar word.

Reese's face remained fairly angry for a moment or two more, but slowly it softened and his wrinkled his nose. He was never one to stay angry for long, which was probably a good thing when dealing with Kate, wasn't it? He looked down at his pile, puffing out his cheeks...before glancing up at the puppy child a little shyly.

"Wanna play?" he mumbled, patting the sand with his shovel. "I'm building a cathle." He smiled a little at the thought, lifting up a pile scoop and putting it on the mound again. "A big cathle, with towerth!" His tail coiled happily. He was getting back into the game again. He looked up at her, bright eyed and smiling. They could be friends, right? They could build it together!

Kate began to get worked up again, ear's starting to flatten, as the boy just looked at her angrily. She apologized already! Caught up in her rising temper, she didn't notice Reese's expression lightening until he asked her a question.

The pup blinked at Reese, frustration dissapearing as quickly as it came. "Okay!" The girl came over to flop next to Reese, accidentally kicking up some sand. She watched Reese for a moment before gently picking up some sand and dumping on the pile. "Good?" she asked, checking with Reese.

"Yeah! Good job!" Reese said happily, mimicking Wilbur or Poppa.

They'd continue to play for a while, the pile growing increasingly higher as they worked together. But all the fun would not to last; it started as a light wind, which grew...and then was gone. After about 2 or 3 minutes of stillness, the rain drops starting falling. Slowly at first, building up steam. The storm was setting in fairly quickly.

The first few drops would be leaving ugly craters in the sand 'castle' by the time Edge got over to the pair.

"Come on, Reese...didn't think it was gonna storm this bad," he explained as he kneeled down beside the kids. "Hey little girl...where's your parent at? Can't leave you out here in the rain..." The dark haired man spoke as he looked around for someone who might belong to Kate.

Kate's face brightened into a full blown grin as she dug into the sand, carelessly putting it here and there... and getting no small amount of sand into her hair, clothes, and of course the buckets.

Kate was so involved in her sand castle that the girl didn't notice the darkening sky or even the first few drops of rain. It wasn't until her new friend's daddy came by that Kate looked up. "Ummm...." Kate replied to the man with a frown.

Fortunately Edge wasn't the only one keeping an eye on the weather, even if his kid didn't quite disappear as easily. Not much further from the pair, albeit on the other side, came T'rin, jacket whipped off and heading towards Kate with a jog.

"Daddy!" the girl squealed happily, jumping up with her tail wagging a mile a minute. She didn't even bother saying goodbye as she took off to tackle T'rin.

Staggering back a bit, T'rin patted Kate gingerly on the back and hooked his jack on over her head. It wouldn't do for her to get sick. >< Not at all. The man waved towards Reese and Edge before trying to chivvy the girl back in the direction of their temporary home.
