Yamanaka Hanaya - Yamanaka Flower Shop

The Yamanaka Flower Shop is located at the edge of the village square, close to the bar. People usually pass it on their way to work, school or training which is always great for business.
The bottom floor is the flower shop. The atmosphere is relaxed and the walls are painted creamy white. Sunlight streams in through the windows unless of course the weather is otherwise, to give the flowers as healthy as possible of an environment to grow in. Due to Yamanaka Seiteki's death, Kane has taken over the helm of the shop. However, due to his other commitments, he has hired a new help for the store, named Kushina. She a petite teenager, sweet and unassuming. She always welcomes people to come in, whether to chat, buy her flowers, or to help with flower arranging.
The Yamanaka shop is still bright even through all the tragedy that this island has seen. A little busted and bruised after the Black Spring events, the Yamanaka flower shop provided all the flowers and worked tirelessly for days on end for those that suffered losses during these terrible times. It was one of Shimagakure’s smallest forms of light through these tough times.
A little shrine for Yamanaka Seiteki and Yamanaka Hide is at the far corner of the flower shop, surrounded by fresh carnations.

Flowers
The family goes out and gathers these flowers themselves, before arranging them into beautiful bouquets.
Current season: Spring
Cherry blossom (sakura) (Prunus × yedoensis) This type of cherry blossom is called Somei Yoshino in Japanese. The flowers are almost pure white, tinged with the palest pink, especially near the stem. The Somei Yoshino Cherry Blossoms bloom, and usually fall, within a week, before the leaves come out. The trees, thus look nearly white from top to bottom.
Rape blossom (Brassica napus) Known as 'nanohana' in Japanese. In spring, wavy yellow carpets of rape blossoms take over riverbanks, roadsides, vegetable field borders and just about any open space. When looked at from a distance, the clusters of little flowers blooming on the tall and slender stems can create a dreamlike scene, especially when they stretch to the horizon filling the air with their pasty, intoxicating scent. Nanohana can be boiled and flavoured with soy sauce or mustard.
Peony (Paeonia lactiflora) Known as 'botan' in Japanese. In some countries the peony is considered the "king of flowers" and it's a symbol of good fortune and high honour.
Iris (Iris tectorum) Known as 'ayame' in Japanese. The iris is predominantly associated with heroism, and also hope, wisdom, valor and eloquence. It's also associated with royalty because of its blue colour. In farming communities, the roof iris is believed to give protection from storms and typhoons.
Narcissus (Narcissus tazetta) Known as 'suisen' in Japanese, it's seen as a symbol of wealth and good fortune. Narcissus cultivation has risen to become a high art. The narcissus also has one of the sweetest fragrances of any flower. Narcissus roots are also used in traditional medicine.
Peach blossom (Prunus persica) Known as 'momo' in Japanese. The peach holds a special place in the hearts of the people as it is said to be useful in driving away evil. This concept is the basis for the popular folk tale Momotaro, where a young boy is found floating in a giant peach and grows up to defeat demons.

It was getting late, and so Seiteki decided to close up the shop. Business had actually not been that great today. The mornings had been all right, she supposed, but Seiteki didn't remember the afternoon at all, and neither did, she suspected, most of the other people in Shimagakure. She'd gone to visit the neighbouring shops after she'd woken up and had seen all her fellow shopkeepers just groggily trying to regain consciousness. And she had read the newspaper... So, Kane was being sent off on another mission?
Seiteki's expression was uncharacteristically grim. She figured that Kane would be sent on one mission after another, especially if the political situation was as unstable as it seemed right now. It was time to give that to Kane... yes, her husband had said the sixteenth birthday, long long ago when he was still himself, but Kane was her baby alone now, and she would do what was right for him. Kane had been a dear, and had given her some of his money to spend. It was with that money that Seiteki would head to the weapon shop. She locked the shophouse and set off. Kane and Hana both had copies of the key to the shop, so if they happened to return before she did, they would be fine.

Still in shock from her first meeting with the Meho Warlord, Hanabira moved like a wraith through the small alleys of Shimagakure in order to make it home. Her olive eyes looked up at the shop with the closed sign posted in the window. How did she know that she would come home to an empty house? Reaching into her pocket and unhooking the key from a piece of string that she had sewn into her pocket, Hanabira slid it into the door to turn the lock before heading inside. Just out of fear, the girl turned around and locked it right back up once she was inside. She didn't really think that such a petty thing could keep a man like the cannibal she had just met out, but it gave her a little bit of security. Taking off her shoes and slipping on a pair of slippers, Hanabira walked through the house, past the shop and up to her room. She slid shut the door behind her before falling into her bed.
At first Hanabira laid there, emotionless as she thought about absolutely nothing. Then like a tip of a spear the current memories she had just received flew through her chest and pierced her heart. Hanabira began to cry out loud which was much different from how she had cried at the beach. These cries actually had volume to them. Hanabira buried her head in her pill, smashing her glasses against her face as the soft object muffled her cries. She was weak, bland and a pathetic excuse for life. She had caused the death of the one person she had called father and not been able to protect her friends when she tried to hard against Samehada. Hanabira cried and cried some more before she calmed herself down and reached underneath her bed to pull out her small diary. She just wanted to write... The words on the first page she had written had made her stop completely though. The characters in which she had inked down were calling out to her and telling her to keep strength. Tracing her finger tip over the words and reasons why she would always strive, Hanabira stood from her bed. She would not let those names that were written feel ashamed of her like she was... Hanabira was living in honor of Hide's memory. She should strive instead of whimper! Standing as if she were ready for battle, Hanabira got ready for training. First thing she would do was pick up where she left off learning Henge.

Hanabira put her hands in the seal of the ram, just as she had learned from Jintachi-sensei and the scrolls. The girl took a deep breath in. She was a natural at Genjutsu, but she had not practiced henge in a very long time. Keeping her olive eyes open, she pressed the palms of her hands together and began to let her chakra swirl around her body. She didn't speak a word when the chakra from her body began to leave her body and begin to make her look as if she were transforming. Anyone who would look upon the chakra surrounding her would see that she was trying to create a disguise around her body. As her chakra moved around, Hanabira's mind drew a blank. She hadn't thought of just who she wanted to transform into. Her mind had just recently been going over the images of those dear to her since she had read her journal entry from the other day. With an unstable thought process, Hanabira's first try at her training failed. The chakra fell down from around her body like a useless sheet. "Mm," Hanabira hummed, bringing the tips of her fingers to her lips while she kept them in the seal of the ram. Who did she want to practice transforming into? Closing her eyes, she tried to imagine the person closest to her heart, which was Hide-sama. She imagined his blond hair, blue eyes and friendly smile. She would do her best to transform into him.

Bringing her hands back down in front of her chest, Hanabira mustered up her chakra once again. "Henge," she spoke softly as her chakra acted like a white cloud to transform her into the image she had just imagine within her mind. It would appear that the girl was transformed into a tall, blond haired and blue eyes man. She had managed to transform after learning the first parts to the technique so long ago. Hanabira couldn't help but let out a small smile at this job well done. In reaction, the image of Hide covering Hanabira's true identity smile as well. She thought about this when she did smile and imagine what she would look like right now.
It made her bow her head and drop her arms from the seal, but she she had to try and uphold this genjutsu. The last part of the training state that one should be able to hold the genjutsu over a period of time. There could be situations where a person would have to hold a henge for days while in a mission... A mission. Hanabira tilted her head back up and looked to the ceiling. When she had a genin squad, she would one day go on a mission as well. Hanabira had always feared that, but with her new statement in life it got her rather excited.

The freckled face girl couldn't believe that she had let her mind wander like that. Before Hanabira could realize, she had slowly dropped her henge while thinking about things in the future. "Mm," she hummed in frustration as she put her hands back together in the seal of the ram. She would create the same image around her body and portray the same person once again. "Henge," she whispered once again, her chakra flowing from her body in a white cloud of smoke to cover up the quick transformation that the genjutsu casted. Once again, the short brown haired girl with the thin framed glasses became a tall blond man with a face one would melt for. Hanabira kept her now blue eyes open and steadfast. She wouldn't let her mind wander towards things like genin squads and missions. She first had to overcome this training and perfect this technique. Hanabira wanted to become a genjutsu master and a medical shinobi. It was a lot of training mapped out for her and she wouldn't falter in the beginning.

Hanabira's palms began to grow sweaty as she held the technique after initially casting it. Her hands continued to press together in the seal of the ram, just as Hide's were doing in her genjutsu. She was a little scared to pull her hands away since this position allowed her to better concentrate the steady flow of chakra to holding the image around her body. In her mind, Hanabira was constantly telling herself to hold it. Don't falter. Don't let the chakra stop flowing. She knew she could hold the technique. Her skills were strong and she had enough chakra to hold it for just a little longer. The seconds that went by while she held this technique turned into minutes. She held it long and felt like she was about to cave, but she would continue to hold. The circular motion of chakra swirling in her chest was prominent now to feeling. It felt like a rush of adrenaline had just been released, but she knew that it was her chakra. Pressing her lips together, Hanabira tried to focus in not letting her image fall. She should be able to hold it for at least five minutes. Then, when she wanted it to drop, she would let it go herself not slow lose it.

Counting in her mind, she knew that her time was almost at an end. She could feel her chakra giving out, but she was starting to become stubborn. Even if she passed out, she would hold this technique. Aya-senpai had always gave her all. She had been sent to the hospital many times for over doing it with her chakra. If Aya could take training that hard, then Hanabira would follow in her footsteps with that same type of determination. Also, the image of Hide that she was holding... She wanted to hold it for just a little longer. The thought that Hide was in this house, even if it was a genjutsu, felt somewhat comforting. His smiling face and cheerful voice coming in through the door and asking Hanabira how her training was doing. They were all such sad memories now. The girl could feel her eyes sting with those threatening tears, but she fought against them while holding the technique. As she felt herself wanting to cry, Hanabira forced herself to hold the technique a little longer almost as punishment. Then, she finally let it go, the disguise falling with a white cloud of chakra just as it had began.
Hanabira stood there in silence after finishing the training that had been set out to complete the henge no jutsu. There hadn't been any type of enemy defeated or mission accomplished, but Hanabira felt more experience and stronger than before.

The earthy fragrance of a dozen varieties of plant life stung his sensitive nostrils, tightly entwining their creeping tendrils. The slowly choking movements of plants was as curious as the unearthly blend that wafted towards Shinichi from the flower shop, accentuated by the frequent gusts that flew his way from Noburo's direction. The tall man paused in front of the cheery flower shop as he caught a whiff of jasmine. "Don't wreck anything," the ANBU warned his companion as they came up to the shop. Shinichi took one glance into a window and just stared listlessly into the desolate shop. Empty, just like the afternoon hours had been. Empty, a shop that always was open to any casual visitor since nobody dared to commit robbery in a community of shinobi. A different scent floated his way, though this one more of a unique intuition than anything else. He guessed that somebody inside the flower shop was releasing chakra, but there was a different feel to the energy than usual. Shinichi rapped the stout doors, a crease appearing on his brow. "Yamanaka-san?" he gruffly called. Something was out of place in Shimagakure earlier on and Shinichi was intent on discovering the perpetrator before any real harm came. Even Noburo, the normally raucous devil, had settled into flying a graceful circle above his head, disturbed by her partner's concern. Since when did he just stop in the middle of the path and stare into space like a confused child?

Seiteki walked back home with a considerably more at ease expression than when she had left it. Her beautiful red hair was let down and swayed a little as she walked, and in the breeze. Not for the first time she felt that they were starting to move on from her oldest baby's shock death. Kane was going to be sent off on another mission, and she was worried for him, but he seemed to be maturing nicely. The Tonato mission had really sparked a change in him. And Hana had also returned stronger, not that she hadn't already been gifted in the first place. Seiteki's heart was swelling with pride. There was no limit to what she felt her children could do - which was probably the most defining characteristic of her mother, wasn't it?
Her soft steps barely made any sound against the road in the quiet evening, before slowing to a stop. The lights were on, so somebody was home. But the figure waiting in front of the shop and not the lights was the reason she had stopped. Moving forward again, she quickly picked him out to be Harada Shinichi, the Kage's right hand man. He didn't strike her as the type of person to sit and enjoy the flowers... Seiteki smiled a little at the image of Shinichi prancing in a meadow of morning glories and eulalias, but shook the image away and approached him.
"Harada-san?" she half-said, half-asked. From her tone of voice, her words were meant to be a greeting and a question as to what he might need all at once.

Hanabira quietly descended the stairs after she finished her training. She couldn't wait to show Kane that she could perform Henge properly. Going into the kitchen, Hanabira poured herself a glass of water. Letting the water run after she filled the cup, Hanabira cupped her hands for some water and splashed it in her face. As she was drying her face and hands, the girl heard a tap against the door. Customer's? "Mm," Hanabira hummed to herself as she took her glass and sipped some water before running to the front. She should've opened the store when she had gotten home. Setting down the glass on the counter by the cash box, Hanabira saw just who was at the door through the glasses. "Shinichi-sama," she said softly, her walk to do the door a littler slower. As she began to walk slower to the door, she saw Seiteki also through the glass. The woman directly approached Shinichi, so Hanabira felt a little better about opening the door. Once Miss Yamanaka greeted Shinichi, Hanabira opened the door slightly to them both. She bowed her head silently and then fully swung open the door for the two to come in. Hanabira stood behind it the entire time though.

There were truly few people in the village who approached him so freely and with as relaxed a smile as Yamanaka Seiteki so Shinichi wasn't sure how to react. The botanist's flowing hair reminded him of the silent, smirking leech disguised as a stunning goddess, a mime whose clothing were stained with his and Noburo's scarlet blood. But this woman surely was nothing of that type, raising three proud shinobi children, after all. Shinichi courteously bowed and stepped soundless into the shop, trying not to wince at the barrage of odors that slapped his face. A flash of yellow caught his attention, but to his disappointment, the flowers only turned out to be a short, slender plant identified as patrinia. The ANBU gripped the edge of the door with a gloved hand and focused on a curious turquoise blossom while he made his request, tinged with just a little lie, "Yamanaka-san, tenants in my apartment have requested sturdy plants for the next season. Perhaps you have some winter jasmine?" The delicate yellow blossoms always decked the Kage's office so Shinichi had grown to like the bitter scent. With the upcoming cold months, they would also need plenty of jasmine to make tea as a relief for any sore throats or coughing. A sharp pain in his foot brought a deep growl in Shinichi's throat. He bent down and lifted the petulant Noburo, piercing talons and all, onto an empty space between two hanging plants. "And Noburo requests something as well." Shinichi stepped aside to let Seiteki do her job, swinging the door just enough to expose the usually quivering little rat in the corner. Today, though, there was the tiniest hint of a flame in her walnut eyes. "How's your training going?" he muttered, asking the standard question for all students. Shinichi hadn't been keeping up with the academy and he hoped the tiny girl was mentally strong enough to hike up her training after her father's death.
Noburo hissed, snapping her own gibberish when Shinichi failed to translate for her. She didn't have the patience to deal with deafened village morons! Glaring at the red-head with her wide, golden eyes, full of both menace and an overly inflated superiority complex, the gyrfalcon clicked her tongue and began the long process of communicating using only gestures. First, she spread her wings and beat them vigorously until the potted ceiling plants threatened to slip from their hooks. Ignoring a threatening glance from Shinichi, she puffed out her breast and cawed, then repeated the wing motions, this time gentler. Noburo wanted to implant the image of a bird into Seiteki's mind. She then hopped off the rack and fluttered around a bright magenta-colored flower, imitating the movements of smaller herbivore birds. She vibrated her wings like a hummingbird and tried to imitate the call of sparrows. Repeating this cycle several times, the falcon hopped from plant to plant, occasionally skipping over those she herself found unappealing, trying to get the message across that she wanted a plant that birds in general liked to hang about. It would make her hunting that much easier, giving her more time to train Natamo, for Noburo had taken a liking to the steel-tongued lady.

Hanabira stayed behind the door, watching Shinichi inspect the room like the shrew man he was. The little freckled face girl always felt that he was passing judgment on things as he viewed them with his cold green eyes. She found it almost out of character for such a scary man to come and request flowers, but as he said they had been for the tenants at his apartment. Hanabira jumped as Shinichi pushed the door away from her hands to shut it and then turned his gaze upon her. She could just imagine the things he were thinking about her. It wasn't anything that Hanabira could ignore, but she knew that Shinichi thought she was a very worthless girl. She had failed in most of his classes about ninjutsu and other endurance trainings. The girl had been more than thankful when she heard that he was no longer a regular teacher at the academy. "Mm. I've learned all the techniques for graduation..." she managed to whisper. She knew that she had met one qualification to become a genin, but her other skills were still very painfully sloppy. Not wanting to feel the pressure of Shinchi's gaze any longer, Hanabira grabbed a basket of fresh Bush clover that had been grown inside the shop. Since it was autumn, the flower was no longer growing wildly. "I'll be selling flowers in the village, Yamanaka-san," Hanabira said politely to Seiteki with a short bow to her and then to Shinichi before walking out of the shop.

"Thanks, dear," Seiteki said with a nod and waved her daughter off as she set off. She followed Shinichi into the shop and inhaled the varied aromas of the autumn flowers. Being the skilled florist that she was, Seiteki could immediately pick out which flower was which.
"Winter jasmine?" she echoed Shinichi. "Well, you're in luck!" she continued with a beaming smile. "I just picked some today. I don't have a large supply, but it should be enough for your needs. Until tomorrow, at any rate, you're always free to return for more. The sturdier plants don't actually emerge until later in winter." She glanced at Shinichi's interaction with Hana, eyes narrowing as she sensed something between them. But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared and she was all smiles again. "I'll try my best to understand Noburo-san..." she joked a little, before turning to the bird.
Ignoring the glare Noburo sent her [OOC: It's at Seiteki right..? Or is it to Shinichi... o.O], Seiteki watched the bird flit about and attempt to communicating with a slowly rising eyebrow. She had to admit it, she was pretty much confused. She was also worried that the bird might ruin a few plants in its passion, but trusted that Shinichi would keep an eye on her. It wasn't until Noburo imitated a hummingbird that something clicked in Seiteki's mind. Didn't falcons eat smaller birds? Hummingbirds were attracted to flowers, so Noburo probably wanted some flowers that attracted birds. It was like flypaper attracting flies, but not really... anyway she waited for Noburo to finish before speaking. She looked between Shinichi and Noburo, unsure of who to speak to, before settling on the happy medium space between them. She started talking in that direction before flitting first to Noburo, then to Shinichi and so on so that both were included if they chose to be.
"Well, many flowers attract birds, especially the fruit-eating ones. What you need are the ones that actually bear fruit or seeds, or those that attract insects. The birds will feed on them," she explained. "They'll be attracted to bright flowers like the morning glory, or bush clovers." She gestured vaguely at the purple variety, before continuing, "Excuse me, Harada-san, Noburo-san. I have to fetch the winter jasmine."
She disappeared into a storeroom, and soon emerged with a wrapped bundle of flowers. They were a mixture of yellow and pink and were still uncut, which Seiteki proceeded to apologise for.
"I regret to say that they are still unprepared," she said apologetically. "If you'd give me one more day, I'd be able to get them all cut nicely and put into a bouquet, or I could pick out flowers that would complement them and send them along as well. But do they look all right to you?"
