Now I could be wrong, but I have the theory that in today's years Sarah would be forty-five years old instead of being ninety but in that day would be ninety.
Now here is why I think so. Last week I saw a play about Abraham and Sarah. During one scene when the Pharaoh took Sarah he kept saying how beautiful she was. I kept wondering how beautiful could a seventy-five year old be. I got to thinking and I remembered when I was listening to the commentary on the ten commandment DVD and they talked about that the calendar year was only half as long as what we have now since the crops could be harvest two times a year. Today the calender year is based on how long the earth travels around the sun but back then it was different. She would still be considered old in those days to have a child.
What do you think?

Hm, very interesting theory. I think I understand the reasoning. I do not know how the calendar differed in Biblical times (which it probably did), but I do know that in general, people lived longer in the old testament. Now, I've learned that this was due to the fact that sin corrupts, and as time goes on, sin increases, thus causing shorter lives. However, there are a some people these days that live to 100; and if that theory is true, people wouldn't live much past 10 years old at the rate of sin present today! Another thought: the Bible says that the wages that sin pays is death. It does NOT say how long that takes. Some people live long lives; others short! It's very interesting how that all works.

I feel like so much of the Biblica pre-history (the Pentedeuch) you kind of have to take in the context it was written in. Things were very different so what it says there may not really be what we interpret it to mean today.
So yeah, it's entirerly possible and I pretty much had assumed that myself. Of course, you know what they say about assuming -shrug- Overall, I feel like her actual age is irrelevant and the point is made- Sarah had a child by the grace of God even though she was barren.
