I know the American way of spelling this word is Armor but, the English (or is it French?) spelling of the word is Armour, right? Anywho, this thread is for anyone who wants to talk about this type of item.
However, if you want to discuss about avatar armors of any kind, please go to the tavern and click on the "Avatar Discussion" thread as this is not the right place for that. This is a thread for armor that exist in, either real life, or in fantasy (like in games for example).

How about I start with this:

"Chain Mail"
This may sound like the annoying kind you get in yer inbox, ha-ha! lol But as I hear, it was a popular type of armor used in the medieval times (or so I recall). Also, there are quite a few number of games (most of them RPG) that have at least one type of this armor. I've seen some kinds being made with steel chains and other types with gold chains. Some even look similar but have something added to make them somewhat different. Personally, I am not much into armors but I sure do like buying them in a game. Especially games like "Dragon Quest" or alike! I remember having bought one for each of my male characters in "Dragon Warrior II" for the NES. The lady character couldn't equip one for some reason...

So how about you? What do you have to say about this kind of armor or any other in particular?

Well my dear Jasta, if you love armor so much, why didn't you laid yer opinion about the "Chain Mail" then? I wonder how many things can be said about this armor in particular... mrgreen

yay xd
i want to start out by saying
armor started out in very early times past medieval, but the only part i care about is early 13th through late 16th. 13th century was very functual such as german, european, and italian. due to the invention of gunpowder, armor lost it's functionality. this lead to the puffed and slashed style armors that were more a parade type then functual. many clothes in the elizabeth era were based off such armors of the med-centurys. those can be seen in a tight waist an a broad chest and shoulder. so over all armors were reserved for rich powerful or those who could become squire's. none of this is in any kind of order so feel free to read it over if i confused you.

Nope, I was not confused! But yer right, armor had to loose its functionality sometime. Just like defensive walls did when cannons were introduced.
Feel free to follow this up with your favorite kinds of armors or whatever. That's what the thread is for after all! mrgreen

I like the idea of chain maile, but I hate wearing it. It's heavy as all get-out, when it's the proper materials. I much prefer something lighter, if I have to actually wear it. Besides, it doesn't stop arrows. twisted

Hey Drakrai! Would you mind giving us examples of Gothic armor? The only example I can possibly think of is the "Damascus Armor" that we can see here in Gaia, you know the one right?

Hmm, now that you mention it Berz, the female character in Dragon Warrior 2 may be like you cuz she can't be equipped with chain mail. Maybe it's not that she can't wear it but, she most likely can't stand to wear it and she refuses to. mrgreen

sure hypno
http://www.raisonsbrassband.com/gothic-armor-p-232.html
this site isn't the best to see it but if you look around i'm sure you can find a better refrence, on the other hand the best representation i've found is in a book called "brassey's book of body armor"

tons of knights wore shirts with chain stitched in only the exsposed areas such as the armpits, groin, inner elbow, back of the legs, and ankles.

Hey Darkrai! I followed that link of yers and I found nothing. The page was completely blank, no error message, no nothing. Weird, eh?

Anywho, I found a little something about gothic armor at this page!

I've never read that book unfortunately...

I suppose that was the thing back then, huh? rolleyes

Guess what? The page worked for me now. Isn't that weird? I don't get what was going on...
Anywho, the armor you liked to looked quite good but it's supposed to have been made recently, right? I mean, it's not exactly an ancient relic now, is it?

Say, if Death worn a type of armor, which type would you think it would wear? Hmm... neutral

I dunno. But I imagine armor black would be involved.
