I've recently discovered Ravi Shankar. I downloaded a beautiful version of om mani pedme hum and after falling in love with it, I acquired several more songs, which I enjoy thoroughly.
If you have a favorite musician (of the Eastern/meditative sort) who is it, and what would be your favorite piece by them?

If you have a favorite musician (of the Eastern/meditative sort) who is it, and what would be your favorite piece by them? I don't listen to any meditative music, exept for a cd of just worldy noises such as wind, the ocean, cities, and others. meh.

I just have my pretty Chant of Metta. I don't listen to it for meditational purposes, as it'd be a distraction, but it's so pretty...yes.

Ravi shankar isn't meditation music, really. He's a very -very- famous sitarist. (Is that a word? xd ) He's fantastic, and he's a funny man.

Merlin the White Actually, I think he's more famous as a composer, but I could be wrong. Well, the tv show on the Link chanel about him didn't say he was a composer. But I could be wrong too. eek sweatdrop He taught sitar to one of the Beatles though, I remember that!

I basically love all kinds of music. I mostly like all music in Japanese. Anyways, I find songs by Moby very comforting.

Mostly my trusty Pure Moods and Moby CD's.

Well, I can list a few which I'd like to share ^^ But actually I have no particular preference as long as it's able to calm my frazzled nerve at the end of the day... whee Nuno Malo's Star Crossing is one of the best pieces of Buddhist music I've heard in a long time. Especially "The Prayer", it sends shivers down my spine everytime I listen to it. Nuno Malo Sample - Dawn at the Temple伊藤佳代 aka Ito Kayo has quite a few very nice versions of Tibetean mantras. In fact I have more of her CDs in my collection than I have of other Buddhist composers. Ito Kayo Sample - Mantra of the Green TaraLastly but surely not least is Imee Ooi. She's the most prominent Malaysian (go Malaysia xd ) Buddhist composer. Her most famous composition would have to be her chant of Metta. Yeah, Kitaro's neat. I also enjoy Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog, and, while most of it is weird techno-y stuff I don't like, the Buddha Bar albums do have some good stuff on them. Ravi Shankar is good, but I just don't listen to him that much.
