Why does everyone bash on Bush for the war, when he could have done nothing without Congress? In theory, our President is the country's leader, but in true fact, the president has very little power. Sure, he has more power than you or me, but he isn't totally to blame. I'm not exactly a Bush supporter, since I think most politicians are just greedy liars, but I don't see how everyone needs to burn him at the stake.

doucthec Why does everyone bash on Bush for the war, when he could have done nothing without Congress? Well, whenever there's a problem, people always like to blame someone else. They really don't care who, but they want the blood on someone else's hands. No doubt that this war was started mainly because of 9.11. When it happened, who did the people turn to for guidance? Congress? No, they turned to the President and demanded that he do something to reciprocate in order to stop this terrorism against the United States once and for all. What they didn't factor in, was that the President listened and did what they wanted him to do. He did the only thing that would make people from another country's government listen. He declared war against them. He can't just go over there and discuss things over a little tea party and everything would be settled right then and there, although that would be nice. What would have happened if we just left it alone and turned our cheeks? Would they have attacked us again? Or left us alone? I hate it, but I believe the first more. Basically, the people who were begging Bush to do something to them were asking for the war, but seeing what it escaladed to, they don't want to admit that they're the ones who pretty much pushed for the war. We've all done something, but when we find out what it turns into, we try to blame someone and wash our hands of the blood that we originally created. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming everyone. Just think about it. War, it's a dirty thing. No one wants to admit that they pressed for it.
Personally, I don't completely support the war. I support the troops, but not all aspects of the war. But I always can't figure out how these candidates want to end the war. We're farther than knee-deep in it. We're in too deep to be able to easily crawl our way out. If we forfeit the war, what will the countries we're fighting make us pay in defeat?
Now Wolfgang's probably gonna bother me about saying "we're" but I'm talking about most people in this guild. We're mostly Americans right? If you're not, please tell me. I don't want to offend anyone.
I hope that helped you out a little bit, doucthec. Sorry for the length though. It's practically a report... sweatdrop

Wow, full year courses are offered for just one branch, but it's democratic (which is quite obvious). There are three branches, the legislative, judicial, and executive. If I have this right, legislative makes the laws, judicial passes the laws (or the other way around ><) and the executive carries out the laws. The president is in the executive branch. The power is divided evenly amongst the 3 branches and there is also power held by the state governments (of which there are 50) to better the spread of the power. The president is also the commander-in-chief and signs peace treaties and the war status. The judicial is like the courts and executive is like the police officers.
There's so much stuff that I don't think that I can explain it. That's mainly just a summary. If you want a full description you can try searching it on dictionary.com.

My US History teacher loves the Constitution, so I got alot of information this year about it. The Executive branch is the President, Vice President, ect. The Legislative Branch is the Congress, which makes and passes the laws, and contains the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate contains 2 representatives from each state, and the House of Representatives contains an amount for each state based on the number of citizens in each state. The Judicial branch is the Supreme Court and all the lower courts beneath, which enforce the laws of the country.
