i can sit down and play stupid crap like this for hours
sometimes i don't write the notes down and i forget the songs i come up with
and even when i do write down the main theme whenever i go back to play it they never get played exactly the same
its fun for me smile
these videos are both taken from like a 30 minute recording
i was just experimenting with notes and mixing the melodica with piano
i only recently got my melodica and this is like the second or third time i've been able to sit down and really play around with it
lots of wonky lazy notes ofc

on the first one the harmonica sound kills it, a little variety is needed but you did a real good job.

the second one is better, i can tell you have excellent form just need to watch the timing changes a little more.

hearing the myspace one i do not think conventiaonl music is for you, I think your niche is instrumental classical, I thought the note arrangement was brilliant, I would LOVE to be able to write or play something like that. you repeated yourself a little again but not as much, don't take that as me being too hard, i've wrote stuff for piano, sometimes you run out of ideas and sometimes it's rpetty damned hard not to repeat yourself so i completely get that. I think the melody soudned fine I just wouldn't have minded hearing more change on the bass notes. I noticed the same thing in this one as i did your other songs. when the rhythm and speed changes you monetarily lose track of the notes it's hard to catch but if you know what you're listening for you can hear it plain as day. There is something i did to help wih my rythm on piano, I know it sounds stupid but it forces you to keep track of beats and stay on time, and it will make staying on time on paino easier after playing it for a while, rhythm games, where you hit the arrows as they come up according to the beat? I am telling you those will help you stay on beat. around 4:32 a section with some more variety would be nice.

to sum it up you have a great talent for piano, i
m just throwing ideas out there and politely pointing out ideas i think could be improved upon, whether you agree with my ideas or not, i just hope the input helps type of thing, I loved hearing the song speed up real quick on some parts though

thanks a bunch for all the input blaugh
yeah left hand idk what to do with i'll have to play around more and come up with something diff

all my training was more or less classical, but i do alot of modern stuff too
i took lessons from age 6 to 13 then i quit, didnt really play for three to four years, and now for the past year i've been trying to get my fingers back and i'm playing alot more seriously again
i got a teacher again just to help get my fingers in shape but shes not really helping eh and i tell her i'm interested in learning how to improvise and be able to play with other musicians and be able to participate in long jam sessions but all she does is give me copies of pieces by evanesence and christina i'm like.... ummm no neutral

I really like it, it's nice and easy on the ears. I know it was improvised so i don't think there is much point in me commenting much on the song structure. To keep it short, think you need to add a few repeated riffs and always have a structure in mind. Whether rondo, modern rock form (don't remember the name of this, but it's pretty much verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus). There's a list of different forms here.

I may be able to help you improvise. My guitar teacher had told me about this exercise "rip a riff a day." It would apply to piano as well i suppose. Try to learn a few bars of solos or improvisation a day by ear. Not only will it improve your ear, it'll subconsciously build a bank of short riffs in your mind which with practice you can call upon. On top of that, if you haven't already learn all about the modes and compatible scales, you should do so. Then you can mess around with some original riffs to add to your bank.
It probably sounds like you're just memorising other peoples improvisations, but it's not like that. It helps to visualise what you want to play. With enough practice any music in your mind can be instantly translated to what you play.
I'm still learning all this, but it has helped me a lot so far. You should give it a try.
