So... I decided I would kind of like to try my hand at DMing. If anybody's interested in playing a game of DnD and putting up with a new Dm, let me know.

HEY! I'm totally interested, and don't mind putting up with new-kid-DMs.

Well, I'm actually really surprised that somebody finally responded. I hadn't gotten around to trying to pull together a campaign to play since I didn't think people were really interested. I have finals coming up really soon, so I can maybe hopefully have something pulled together soon after that. I'd kind of like to know exactly how many people want to play though that might affect some of the things I stick in.

Well, I think I have an idea for a first adventure, I just need to figure out how to tie it in to what hopefully can be a continuing campaign. Unfortunately, the adventure I'm going to be adapting is designed for four Level 1 players, although I suppose in worst case I could try to trim it down for fewer.

I... don't really know anyone else on Gaia. So no help rounding up more people from me!

Hate to double-post, but it's been a long time.
How does everyone feel about playing around with White Wolf's World of Darkness systems?

Um, I have no idea. o.o
What is World of Darkness? What's the general cosmologic and thematic nature of it?

World of Darkness is a contemporary magical-realism setting, though it lends itself well to the horror genre. Essentially, the core rules govern normal people in the modern-day setting, but most PCs wind up acquiring one of the supernatural templates. The expansions (Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, and Mage: The Awakening are the big ones) cover those in more detail. Each of the supernaturals have excellent reasons not to let mundane humans know of their existences.

Could you explain what you mean by "magical realism", since every time I've heard somebody use that term they were using it to mean a different thing?

Magic realism, or magical realism, is an artistic genre in which magical elements or illogical scenarios appear in an otherwise realistic or even "normal" setting.

That's it? THAT'S IT?! >_O
I don't see the point. Any well-written setting must, by definition, be "realistic".

Unless it's "fantastic"-- very obviously not something that actually happened. That's what differentiates magical realism from high fantasy; Lord of the Rings takes place in Middle Earth, a totally different place. Harry Potter takes place in what could be our world.
