Location: North west border of the Pridelands
Tai perched on a log, feeling the light tug of the wind. Change was coming, he could sense it. Not the change many thought of, but... Personal change. He had been friends with Haki for a long time, since they were both cubs. And now.. Something had changed.
When had he started to like his friend?
As he lay down, the white and purple lion watched his aunt in the distance, playing with and grooming his seven cousins. Well, seven OF his cousins. He DID have one on his father's side. He let out a sigh, rolling onto his back, wondering how he'd tell Haki.

As it were, Haki was looking for Tai. Not for the reasons Tai was thinking of, but he'd found an interesting log that made the most WONDERFUL sound... He wanted to show his best non-family friend! Running along a well-worn path, he soon found Tai laying on a log. Going up to it, he smacked his paws on it in a drum-like rythem. "Tai, wake up! You gotta see a cool log I found!"

With a yell, Tai fell off, creating a dust cloud as he landed. Head poking up over the log, he half-heartedly gared at Haki. "You scared me half out of my skin for a log?" He jumped up on the one he'd been on, walking down it to where Haki was. The delight and joy in those dark blue eyes, though... He couldn't help but jump down and say, "Okay, lead the way, Songbird."

He often missed the way Tai looked at him, being in his own music-filled world half the time. With a flick of his tail, the older juvenile led the way to the log. He sat by it, looking over at Tai. "It's so cool how the sound resonates! You gotta hear it!" With that, he started to beat on the wood with deep chocolate and khaki paws, creating a deep and resonating sound as the notes left the end of the log. Near by, a warren of hares looked up, then went back to their foraging.

Even he had to admit, it was a nice sound. He closed his eyes, just absorbing it, absorbing the sound that was distinctly Haki. He barely noticed that Haki had started to sing, the sound resonating with the beat on the log. Ruby eyes opening, Tai could only watch his friend, listen... And wish he were bold enough to tell him how he felt.

"Uli-buse le lizwe... Izwe lethu... Mhlaba wethu.. Uli phathe Kahle... Izwe lethu, izwe lethu..." He paused, looking at Tai. For the first time, he noticed the way his friend stared at him, the glimmer in his eyes. Brow furrowing, he put his paws down. "Tai, you alright?" He went over, nudging the other juvenile.

A bright red blush rose up on his face as Tai realised... Haki had noticed him spacing. Had he noticed the looks, too? He knew the older juvenile had never really paid attention much, never seemed to notice. Maybe he had now. "I... Ah..." He stuttered, ears falling slightly. He swallowed, then lifted his ears a bit. "Haki, I... I think..."

"You think what? Come on, Tai, spit it out!" Haki tugged slightly on one of Tai's lilac ears, a playful growl escaping. Pawing at the white lion's shoulder, he soon let go, eyes dancing as he waited for what his friend had to say.

With a large gulp, Tai looked at the darker juvenile. "I... I think I love you..." He stood up, suddenly feeling a weight leave his very heart and soul. "I think I love you, Haki." He stopped, ears perking up. "No... No thinking... I DO!" When he looked back, though... He felt his heart crash and sink.

He stared, mouth agape, at Taichi. And then got up and backed away. "You... You WHAT?" Jumping on the log, he kept himself away. "Tai... That's not right... That's so not right!" When the other lion moved closer, a confused look on his face, Haki moved further away. "Keep away from me, you freak!" He then turned, racing away. Away from Tai, and away from the idea of what he'd thought was his friend loving him.

His ears dropped, as did his shoulders. Tai sat down, watching as Haki ran off, and felt a piece of him simply die. "Haki..." A tremor ran across the juvenile's body before he turned, slowly walking home. Choked sobs escaped, betraying him of his attempts to hide the hurt and pain at such rejection. Finding a place, he curled up to hide himself away from it all.
