Quote:
Summary: On Hardball, while remarking on Sen. Barack Obama’s reported request for orange juice after being offered coffee at an Indiana diner, David Shuster asserted: “t’s just one of those sort of weird things. You know, when the owner of the diner says, ‘Here, have some coffee,’ you say, ‘Yes, thank you,’ and, ‘Oh, can I also please have some orange juice, in addition to this?’ You don’t just say, ‘No, I’ll take orange juice,’ and then turn away and start shaking hands.” Host Chris Matthews agreed, “You don’t ask for a substitute on the menu.”

It'd be a waste of coffee if he wasn't going to drink it to begin with, though it sounds like he could have used more manners.

I'll read the article later.

If you ignore the Emily Post-ness of what I'm about to say, the tl;dr of it is that this sounds like more Clinton fans desperate for something to bad mouth Obama about. It's the off-pitch Swan Song of Clinton's Campaign if the Clinton-Bots are crackling through the, "How Dare He Ask For OJ" chorus after the initial swelling of, "B. Hussein Obama, the Magic Muslim Negro," which nobody picked up and went anywhere - with the exception of the Right Wingers at Free Republic.

Anyone wanna talk about how the owner of the diner was being rude by saying, "Here, have some coffee," instead of, "What would you like to drink?" or, "Can I get you something to drink?"

What diner doesn't have orange juice? : Have any of you guys EVER been somewhere that didn't have OJ? I wanna see a picture of this OJ-less menu.

And not just as a talking-to-a-presidential-candidate-rule but as a general rule-of-thumb. Some people have medical reasons to avoid certain beverages. (i.e. - coffee stains teeth, or coffee has negative effects on female fertility and can cause miscarriage. Or soda: bad for your teeth and the fake sugar can do bad, bad, things to your health.) It can make some people feel awkward, and feel that they have to explain their choice to decline a certain beverage in the event they are offered a certain beverage. It's better for the host to either list the choices available, or to simply ask what the guest would like.

I think the fact that he was offered coffee, and not an option, was just plain rude by the diner's owner.

I mean, if I was in Obama's position, I would've probably done the same thing and asked for something else, because I detest coffee in every way, shape, and form. Maybe he just wasn't in the mood for coffee, maybe he's got some allergies to something, maybe he likes his coffee a certain way, who the ******** knows.

I just think it's stupid to attack a guy for not wanting coffee. =/

'Tis true. Though, wouldn't it be much kinder to say "Oh, thank you, but can I have an Orange Juice instead?" instead of "No, I’ll take orange juice" But it's possible that they're making the statement sound ruder then it really was, I mean, he could've used body language to say that he appreciated the offer, but ehh no thanks.

The diner owner doesn't seem to be complainin' about it. I mean, who would? Presidental candidate somes in and rejects your coffee for some orange juice? Who ********' cares, get that man some orange juice, yanno?

Obama isn't Muslim, he's Christian.

But can you really blame the guy? Imagine how stressful running a presidential election campaign is. I would probably say the same thing if I was that exhuasted.

The owner also made a few assumptions and I think the Hillary supporters are just trying to make a tiny insignificant mistake into something reflecting his leadership ability.

You can write him in. =D

@Panic: Your drink choice has NOTHING to do with leadership skills. I don't think EVER Hillary supporter was attacking Obama for that, and quite frankly I don't really care. Drinks won't change my opinion about him, I already don't like him very much.

If he wins the Dem nomination, I'll probably vote Republican if I agree with some of his stuff. If not, RALPH NADER FTW! =D Or Colbert as a write-in.

My reason why Obama won't be getting my vote anytime soon is because he seems to think white people everywhere still hate black people everywhere. I don't remember his exact words, but I was insulted by it. His later press conferences afterward tried to explain that he was talking about his white grandmother, and how she was raised, but he should've ******** started his little story WITH that, and as far as I know, he didn't.

I don't care about the Democrats right now, and I sure as hell don't care about the Republican candidate. So why the ******** would I care about coffee or orange juice?

The Clinton campaign are also attacking him based on the fact he doesn't wear a flag pin.

Yet no one is attacking her in the press about her wah wahing during a televised interview or some of the other s**t she is pulling.

Whaaaat?

I've been watching his speeches since.. goodness knows when..

Since they've been on youtube I guess.

I haven't really heard him make a generalized remark like that. But people make mistakes. Which would you want in office: A guy who made a mistake in his speech by not clearing something up beforehand, or an assbasket that's going to put us into another depression by fugging up out economy more?

[Plus have you seen his "racism" speech on youtube? I honestly think that after you watch that, your mind might be changed just a little.]

Have you seen whatever the fug his name is that's pretty much the republican's leading man? @_@ ******** him, man. It'd be better not to vote then to vote for that assbasket republican if he's the republican candidate.

This election is turning out to be so frustrating. I've heard so many people say "Oh if doesn't win, I'm not voting for the one that DOES win." It's like people don't give a crap if the power falls into the hands of an assbasket.. like that republican whatshisface! @_@

I believe it was during an interview. I don't really care, I just found it extremely insulting. Maybe I'll forget by the time there's ONE candidate for the Democrats, WHO KNOWS.

What I DO know right now, is that I just don't give a flying ******** about the election until there's one for the Republicans, one for the Democrats, and whoever else decides to run. =/

Aye, good enough for me. heart

Though, I gotta say, this election is turning out to be a lot of fun to pay attention to.

So exciting and such.

Or maybe the excitement only comes with age.
