Her morning was perfect, since her actual hunt was perfect. The mare stood over a freshly killed full grown deer, and her mind was filled with thoughts of ecstasy and delight. The blood was draining down the deer's back, and Malice was completely lifeless before pondering where to take the first bite. She felt like having some freedom today, so she woke up early and left the territory where Toku rested. It wasn't that he controlled her or anything, but it had been awhile since SHE had hunted on her own. For some reason, he pretended that it was HIS duty, and it drove her crazy. She had wondered if she herself had become dull from standing at Toku's side, but apparently her skill was as perfect as ever. How could she ever doubt herself anyways? She would never do such a thing again.
She slowly dropped her head to the ground, and her snout carefully lay over the stomach of the deer. The deer still smelled of life, and it was chilling to the Kalona's own mind. Maybe the deer was still alive, but in shock? Either way, without a moments hesitation the mare dug her teeth into her own specimen, while then taking a moment to breath in from her swallowed delight. Her face was now covered in blood, but it was barely visible against her already dark body. How thankful was she for this moment? No words or sounds were required to express her complete gratitude to nature itself. It was a system she and all other Kalonas respected and enjoyed, and she was truly grateful for her required kill.

The piercing scream of an ending life that had shattered the thin air of morning had easily snagged the attention of the grousing male. Curiosity compelled him to pick his way through what snatch of land he had claimed while stopping to 'visit' his family--normally he strayed much farther from the rest of the herd, isolating himself for his own purposes and pleasure. The thought that his return had been greeted with the return of a traitor as well... Could it possibly be Toku who was so boldly hunting here? Nemesis quickened his stride, ragged red strands of crimson snapping furiously at the racing ground beneath his hard hooves. What luck that would be, able to confront that damned, sullied piece of horseflesh without needing to restrain himself. His sister wouldn't be there to play protector--which, he mused with curling lips and glinting fang, was pathetic in itself. He'd used her for nothing more than a shield and other things that made heated shivers of rage stir throughout his body. He wouldn't have it, simple as that. He'd gut that stallion so fast that the coward wouldn't even realize what hit him. At least, not until his own intestines befouled his legs and sent him crashing to the blood-soaked earth. Glittering crimson and ebony pushed themselves forth from the early morning shadows, his breath escaping in slow, hissing puffs of steam from red-rimmed nostrils. The carcass of a deer was shuddering savagely with false life, but his sanguine eyes were fixed upon the deceptively delicate build of the mare who was eating with gusto. Malice. The bony sheets of his wings relaxed a hair, nestling closer to his muscular sides while the stallion began to approach. "Try not to choke." The rumbling timber of his voice grated raspily in his chest. The words were surprisingly dismissive--Nemesis' rough way of 'lightheartedness' as it were. He was still quite sour with his sister for bringing Toku back to the herd... Perhaps some of his smoldering questions could be answered if he pressed her hard enough.

She could hear and smell one of her brothers approaching, and her mouth was full even as she turned to the sound of his words. Ah, Nemesis was it? She quickly swallowed the meat before curving her mouth into a amused grin. Why was her brother in the area? She was surprised that he wanted to approach her as well, since he didn't seem like the type to do such a thing. She hadn't seen him since their last encounter, which didn't go so well. So, she wasn't hiding any hints of surprise. "Wouldn't you be happy if that happened.." she then said with a chuckle, before moving herself so that she wasn't blocking her brother out in a strange way. "You hungry?" she then said, while glancing down at the half-eaten specimen. If Nemesis wasn't her brother, she wouldn't have offered the idea. It was strange for Kalonas to share food, but they did share the same blood so that constituted it normal. She and her father used to hunt in the past, so sharing with family was comfortable in her eyes.
"What brings you to this area?" she then asked, while raising her piercing eyes towards her brothers. He was so much bigger then her, but she was never intimidated. He was strong though, and she liked that about her brothers in general. Since she had been born with all sisters, it was always strange for her to acknowledge the males, since she was somewhat tomboyish herself. She wanted to think of herself as exactly like them, but she knew there was some sexism to that way of thinking. "Have you been keeping yourself busy now that it is warmer?" Her last question was a bit forced, since she was unsure about his feelings towards her. The last meeting was full of conflict, and now she was face to face, ready to answer whatever it was that he would say. It wasn't that she was nervous, she was just conflicted herself. Even though she had grown into a fine mare, she still felt younger in front of her brothers.

He held her gaze for only a moment with a menacing sort of impassiveness, unresponsive, unamused. After a moment, however, a curving glimpse of fang gleamed forth underneath the velvet barrier of glittering ebony that made up his lips--a grin of his own. She shifted, respectfully, and he complied by shifting forward a pace or two less he seem overly unfriendly. He grunted slightly at her question, conflicted and therefore unable to respond right away. To rely on her kill made him feel... dependent, yet she was family, his closest, most important link to this world. His thick neck arched, vicious mouth stealing downward to rip away a bloodied mess of the deer's mid-section. Cooling blood splashed against his muzzle and abaited his foul mood almost instantly, his tail lashing appreciatively at the scent and taste. He hadn't eaten this morning, after all. Swallowing his mouthful, he licked his bloodied chops and glanced at her with grudging appreciation, then muttered something about how he'd hunt for himself later. This was her kill, after all--better if she filled her belly with it instead of letting him scavage like some halfblood.
"Thought I'd get to wet my teeth on something less satisfying." Came the cryptic remark as he locked eyes with her. It was true; he nearly dwarfed her in size, but how often had both their father and mother taught that size wasn't everything? Malice had a sort of cunning that Nemesis would admire. His strength and sheer ferocity could overwhelm most anything, this was true, but working himself in a blinded frenzy helped little in situations that required a clear head. "Some." He acknowledged, eyeing her still. "...Found a few lessers I'm sure you would have liked." His tone had definitely become more sly, eyes glittering before a rasp of laughter worked itself slowly in his throat.

Malice also let out an approving chuckle, since she found her brother's words as entirely amusing. "You speak as if I like them for the wrong reason." she then said, while raising softer eyes towards him. "I take it you disposed of them quickly? Though, I don't disapprove of a slower kill, that's usually my own style.." Since taking her time meant more enjoyment in the end. The thought of Nemesis killing anything was somewhat frightening, and she was glad he was on her side. Their family was impressive in every way, and Malice loved putting that truth into perspective.
Malice then brought her attention back into the moment, and she decided to focus on her brother entirely. The air around them felt dense, and Malice was shifty in thought from such a feeling. Was Nemesis angry about something? He wasn't emitting an easy-to-read reaction, but there was something not right about her presence to his. With a deeper swallow, the mare shifted her eyes a bit, before thinking of the appropriate way to call attention to the scenario. "Is there anything you wanted from me?" Malice wasn't especially normal in her speech, and it usually took her some time to think of the correct words to say. Her most recent words were phrased a bit awkwardly, but Nemesis would most likely know what she meant. Did he come to yell at her, or scold her? She could hardly tell at this point! "I do appreciate that it is just us two talking this time.. so I am only wondering what it is you'd like to know." Or, better yet, what did Malice want to know? The mare wasn't sure if she even knew at this point..

The taciturn stallion snorted softly and clenched his jaws together a little. Most of them had gone down before they'd even understood what was happening... but there had been a few who'd slipped his baneful noose. It was to be expected that not every hunt would be successful, but ohh, how it smoldered in the back of his mind for weeks. It was expected, true, but that didn't make it any less revolting to think that his quarry would live another day. "Most." Came the grunt before he lapsed again into silence. He'd fouled his own mood with thoughts and choked off his own humor, resisting the urge to smash a hoof into the carcass still spilled at his feet.
His sister boldly opened herself up to his interrogation, further darkening his mood, but Nemesis had never been one to hesitate. He knew little of subtlties or doing things in a gentle fashion, hence his blunt brutality. "You say he's changed, that traitor. What benefits does his presence bring you--unless you plan on being just a brood-mare for him." He growled savagely, giving his head a ferocious shake. His agitation kept him from relenting on his sister, disgusted by the thought so much that his tail was beginning to smack against his flanks to work him into further fury. "What does he mean to you?" The stallion eventually managed to say, drawing himself up to glower. His viciousness was well meant. He was...concerned for Malice, as it were, and didn't like the thought of some filth manipulating his way back into their herd. Of course, he knew that she was strong and able to handle herself. That didn't mean he had to like it.

Malice was quiet after her brother initiated the questions she had been waiting for, and she dipped her head in an uncomfortable manner. Her family just hated Toku.. and she was still too young to understand the complete situation. She had tried talking to her father about the general incident, but he became too angry and just stomped away. Malice would admit, she had never seen her father so passionate about something she had done, and in a sense she felt like a traitor, even though she didn't feel as if she did the wrong anyways. "Brood is some of it." she finally replied, since Kalonas were necessary in in nature to continue to strive. "He has changed, all he does is admit his wrong. He wanted to approach everyone by himself, since he's been shamed for all these years. His intentions to speak to mother and father had nothing to do with me."
Was Malice really the one at fault? She didn't want to admit such a thing, nor did she want her family to turn on her or shame her. The possibilities were a bit harsh for reality, but the mare still had a nervous gut for such reactions that her family members made. "He is dependable as a Kalona stallion, just as father is to mother. He is slowly regaining his pride, and I respect that. And he doesn't dare overstep his boundaries against mine.. we are both rather vicious afterall. I can be myself, hateful and cruel without any worry." Her eyes were back on her brother. It wasn't that she had feelings, clearly. Kalonas didn't have the need for such a thing. But she did understand why her mother wanted a strong companion, look at the wealth it brought her! "I apologize if I disrespected you, Nemesis." she then said, though without guilt for once. Her apology was respectable, and it took her a moment to state it openly. She didn't want her brother to mistrust her, and let alone her parents. She was not a scandalous mare, and her family meant everything to her. Maybe they would understand after a generation was born.. and when the strength could be carried on perfectly. There was a gift to their family's blood, and Malice had faith in Toku's to carry on such a legacy of perfection.

Lips snaked backwards to bare his teeth in an ugly grimace when his accusation was partially confirmed, and a low, quaking growl droned on and on within his throat. Of all stallions, she'd picked him... Nemesis' disposition was savage enough at the moment for him to view Toku no better than a lesser. His tail snapped back and forth, back and forth, its spaded edge digging cruelly into the soil beneath his stiffly planted hooves. "Hah! But hiding behind your flanks like some newly weaned foal was a safer option than not! Heed me, Malice; you may claim he has changed, but if he dares to speak to me so insolently again, I will not hesitate to rip his tongue from between his flapping lips." Nemesis snarled, his rage urging him to pace in frenzied, agitated lines. The urge to lash out at something nearly overwhelmed him, nostrils flaring and his eyes practically bloodshot.
After a moment more of his enraged stalking, the black beast forced himself to think things through. Mindless raging was not what he'd come here to do--not entirely. Malice could have settled on someone... worse, loathe as he was to admit it. "...I cannot see him as such." Nemesis finally replied, ears cocked back a fraction while he slowly studied his sister. If Malice was clearly the more intelligent of the pair, no matter how young. She would undoubtedly raise what spawn would come, be a proper influence where their father struggled to find his feet, as it were. He grunted a little, dismissing the apology with the faintest scuff of a hoof. "...I will not doubt your judgement." He intoned in a low tone. "Until he proves himself, I will not accept him. But you and I were both carry what it means to be a true Kalona in our veins. ...You were raised just as I was. If this is the path that you believe to be right, then so be it. I do not fault you." His voice ended with a faint rasp, unused to speaking quite so much, or so passionately at one time. Malice was family. Family was held in the highest regard.
"...He won't need his tongue to aid in furthering our lineage." Nemesis grumbled faintly and gave his head another toss.

A usual glare was emitting from Malice's side of the ring, and she pouted her lips rather then sneering her dirty teeth. Her brother just wouldn't see through the past of Toku, and her teeth scraped back and forth as she tried to ponder the possibilities of peace. Well, when she thought about it, all of the ruckus was amusing anyhow, and if they had accepted Toku off the bat she would have regretted her choice in his matter. Malice did enjoy a bit of controversy here and there since it defined her nature, and she chuckled a bit before spatting her angry saliva at the ground. There was a win and a lose to this situation, but she wasn't the one who could lose. How hilarious was that? "If fighting him makes you feel better, I don't see anything wrong with it. But I always assumed that fights needed to have reasoning. Can you give me a better reasoning besides your own anger?"
Her question was somewhat out there, but she didn't care. Her brother was angry, case in point. But WHY SHOULD Nemesis deserve a fight, or even her father? Malice wasn't going to line up some hefty violence for nothing! She may have been a brutal mare, but she was civil with those she cared about. And, as much as she loved violence, Toku was still a body that she needed to function, and same went for her brother's! And, it wasn't her duty to actually set up some kind of fight. Toku would have to accept it for himself. She was only there to mediate, it seemed. Her controversy was not her own fight, and that was scariest of all in her mind.
"What should he do to prove himself?" she then demanded, while slicing her tail back and forth quickly. The only reason her anger was rising was because her brother's was also rising at the same time. She respected Nemesis' words and guidance, and she knew he deserved a right of passage in the discussion. "I am very interested in finding this satisfying proof." she then said, with a cunning grin. "I don't like to see my family in shambles over me." She had become quite a problem, hadn't she? She could very well make the problem worse.. since it seemed unsolvable at this point. The fight was on accusations, and no proof. And she needed to figure out what proof was necessary for the sake of their family.

Reasoning? She wanted reasoning?! He sucked in a slow breath through his gritted teeth, trying to douse his red-hot fury with the cold air. Rage was not the solution here; it was well known that he had difficulty controlling his temper, and that it clouded his judgement so much that thinking straight became difficult. Clever words and careful persuasion would be needed here for his usual method of solving problems--mutilating them beyond recognition--wasn't applicable here. "He still has yet to prove himself in my eyes." He stated roughly after a moment, hatefully trembling jaws struggling to form words he wanted to say. Intelligent, but not clever, Nemesis lacked the finesse that his sisters did when it came to skillful manipulation. "Though strength is not all that is represented by our race, it sometimes is what counts the most. If he cannot defend himself, he shames our entire family. I will test him myself and see if he is worthy."
He knew, even as the words left his mouth, that his reasoning somehow rang falsely. Wings rustled aggressively at his sides, stretching until the glittering crimson sheets of muscle groaned from the tension. Only then did he permit them to fold again, a hoof digging itself into the loose soil as he sought to recitify his wording. "...Think of it as a rite of passage. Though you are fully capable of handling yourself, I feel as though I need to prove to myself that he can be apart of our lineage. The only way I know how to do that is by taking him head on myself, see just what kind of stallion he truly is."
Malice's words forced him again to slow his mind, silently grateful that she was indeed including him in her personal business after he forced his way in there. "...If you have a better idea, then speak." He was curious to hear his sister's thoughts on how Toku could establish himself again with the herd. "You know him better than I. ...Malice. How was it that you two met?" He was almost surprised to hear himself ask such a thing. Then again, it was still puzzling to him. Had he sought her out? Had it been a chance encounter? He didn't even know that much.

"Everyone seems to be obsessed with they idea of Toku getting initiated or something." she then said, with a lazy finish to her words. "Don't get me wrong, I would be the first to defend and proudly declare how perfect our family is. I can understand where everyone's mixed feelings are coming from... it appears he has done too much wrong as a Kalona.." she sighed somewhat, before adjusting her footing finally. "It just seems like everything we are basing Toku on is from the past alone, when I obviously know him in the present. Doesn't that mean anything to anyone?" Her eyes were now stern, but her face was calm and composed. "Although I love violence, and strength, I don't think fighting could truly get us anywhere. I would be entertained, that's for sure. But I don't think it could actually solve what needs to get resolved." Pft, sometimes she really was a brat. Leading her brother on like that... but still, a good bloodbath sounded wonderful!
At this rate, would Toku ever actually get resolved? "Brother, I truly am sorry that I cannot give you the answers you are asking for. As much as I want to just laugh at this situation and call it done, I feel as if the fight is unjust for some reason. There is something missing, maybe Toku just needs to figure that out in himself." she paused then, wondering why she was even CONSIDERING his flaws or weaknesses. "I think for my own sanity, I would like to refrain from talking about him for just once, even though I know that is what plagues your mind. I am not him, so I cannot change how you all feel. I thought I could from my own will or personality, but apparently I was wrong." Or weak, maybe. Malice didn't want to consider the fact that maybe she was being weak, and her muscles ached suddenly from such a feeling.
"Do you think I've failed, Nemesis?" she then asked, while staring at him with complete shock in her eyes. She wondered if she was crazy, asking her brother that question. But her mind was broken, and her soul was being eaten away by this madness. Would it be worth it in the end? She wanted to think yes, but at the moment she could only imagine no.

"He acted as a coward would." The stallion growled low in his throat and gave an irritable toss of his head. "Attacking a lesser to try and prove his worth...? No. I cannot understand why that made sense to him, and he is still a coward in my mind." He had been young when it had all occurred, true, but he vividly remembered being instilled with why it had been so wrong of Toku to do as he did. It was true that Ruin had also attacked a female, but she, in turn, had hassled him when he was but a foal. Revenge was quite another story from proving one's worth. "...But." Came the low grumble of spoken thought, "If he can hold his tongue and stay respectful to our family, then I will consider tolerating him." The teasing words of his sister earned a snort from him before he idly extended his neck and snapped his teeth a few inches away from her shoulder, almost playful considering the way he gave himself another shake.
He couldn't say he was pleased by Malice's lack of information, but the longer she spoke, the more he seemed to realize how much of a toll this was truly taking on her. She still, in his mind, had chosen poorly... but she was one of his youngest sisters, and, though gruff as he was, he felt at least some obligation to help her. "...This is not your battle to fight. It is up to him to right the mess he left behind; do not feel obligated to step in. If he truly desires to be with you, then he will do whatever it takes." And if he did not? Then Nemesis' suspicions would be confirmed. He kept silent, however.
The question posed so openly to him mdae him uneasy, gazing at Malice with slightly narrowed eyes while he struggled to think of something to say. "No." That was simple enough, and true. "If you did not think this would be difficult, then you were a fool." He meant it kindly, side-stepping silently around Malice to better pace while he talked this through. "I only know that if this is something you truly desire, have no shame. If you doubt yourself, you will convince no one. ...I only worry for... what will be best for you." The stallion said slowly through gritted teeth, hating to open himself up in a manner such as this. "...I will stand quietly, for now. If things begin to go askew and you are blind it, then I will step in before failure can occur."

It wasn't that Malice was surprised by her brother's words, but she was truly effected. She wasn't emotional as a Kalona, such things were forbidden to their kind, and they were unnecessary for their livelihood. But she could feel her brother's caring, and her initial reaction was combined with a smile while stating, "What the ******** was I thinking, right?" she paused then, while closing her sharp eyes. "Thanks bro. I do appreciate your opinion and words. You could have smacked me or something, get me out of this ridiculous daze." She could imagine that her question was awkward for Nemesis, since admitting to flaws was just.. odd. But her guard had been down for a brief second, and all she needed was her brother's confidence to build the walls back up to their rightful positions.
"I don't handle failure well." she then admitted, while bringing herself back on subject with her head in an upright position. It wasn't that she was offended by her brother's words, she was only explaining herself for the actual case. He deserved more explanation, even if it WAS hard for her. "If Toku fails, I won't let any of you step in. I would gladly dispose of him, not just for my own idiocy, but for shaming the family. But. I cannot accept failure just yet, since he has not failed us in this present day." Her dark eyes were now on her brothers, and a smug grin nested comfortably on her face. "I am the first to happily get rid of what needs ridding, brother. I will never let you down with that talent of mine. I can only hold myself now, since things are still happening for Toku. But, I do hold my words in that I will not hesitate to do what needs to be done for this family, and for myself." And with that, Malice bowed her head respectively, since she felt it necessary to make a personal promise to her brother.
"I know I lack age, and maybe even experience. But I do not lack knowledge or opinion. I like that we are incredibly intelligent as a family, and I refuse to admit to any personal stupidity until the very end." With a pause, she then rolled her eyes away from her brother. "I just hope this experience has taught you and the other siblings on how not to be, since I have really driven us down a loophole, haven't I?" And THAT was most annoying for her to handle and take in.
