Keahi sighed happily, swishing about in the cool stream with obvious pleasure. She had been kneeling for some time now, letting the chilly water cool her heated body.
She had been racing to and fro in a frantic search for Imperio, the childish and kind stallion who had... well... squeezed into her heart and claimed a cozy little corner for himself there.
Her belly, hidden from view by the water, had begun to swell as the life kindled inside of her grew. (She had ruled out the prospect of simply becoming fat after she had felt the first kick of a tiny hoof.)
After a complete emotional break-down and a period of cantering about in circles muttering "Oh no Oh no Oh no" beneath her breath, she had decided to:
1) Find Imperio.
2) Tell Imperio that she was pregnant, and that the foals were his. (... Oh boy.)
3) Revive/Awaken/Splash Water On/otherwise resuscitate Imperio after completing Step 2.
4) Drag/Coerce/Threaten Imperio to come with her to tell her parents the news.
5) ... er....
... That was where her brain ceased to function, almost as if she couldn't fathom life after telling her over-protective parents that she was pregnant.
After all, they might actually...
Keahi shook her head, clearing such thoughts from her mind. It was "Keahi Time" now- a new time of day that she had invented in order to rest and enjoy life's simple pleasures- like bathing in a cool stream.
She'd deal with life later.

 Imperio trotted along the grass line happily, his tail swishing back and forth happily as he walked. He felt like dancing, and his hooves made soft, muted tapping noises on the lush spring grass. Imperio wished at these time, that he could whistle. But he couldn't, but he really really wanted to, so he set himself to simply blowing air through his lips in an attempt to (hopefully) get lucky enough to make a sound. It didn't work, but it satisfied the stallion.
Imperio was having a good day. Not that everyday wasn't a good day for Imperio but there was just something about this day that made it superooberlicious. Imperio looked up at the sun for a second, before remember exactly how bright the sun was and, in slight pain, looking away.
He broke out in a light canter, started to head toward the gentle river that ran through the valley. It was hot, hot, hot today and a nice cool drink of water sounded mighty nice.
Imperio's eyes lit up as he caught sight of a familiar figure lounging in the riverbed, the stream rushing up and around the mare. Her body was glistening from the water and the sun, and the bottom of her mane was soaked. Imperio broke out into a delighted sprint, heading toward the mare while give a whinny in greeting.
"Keahi, Keahi, Keeeeaaahiiiii~" Imperio yelled as he approached her. It had been quite awhile since he last saw Keahi, making him that much more excited.

Keahi opened one eye lazily as she heard hoofbeats approaching, wondering vaguely who it could be.
When that familiar voice rang through the air, filled to the brim with bubbling excitement, both eyes flew open and she grinned in response to the calls.
"Imperio! Pleasu-"
Her grin faded slightly when she remembered exactly why it was a pleasure to see the him. Not that she wouldn't have normally been pleased to see her good friend, exactly, just that since circumstances were... er...
Well, at least now she wouldn't have to search for him any longer.
She called out his name once more, and stood up, water dripping off of her newly-rounded form.
"I have some news for you!" she yelled, hoping that he was near enough to hear her.

Imperio came to a skidding stop as he came close to the water, digging his hooves into the lush, grassy ground. He broke out into a grin as he finally halted, glad to see that, yesh, it was Keahi, and not some random hallucination-thingamabob that was playing tricks on him.
"Keahi~" he said, starting to walk toward her, his hooves clopping loudly as he walked into the wet, rocky river bed. "Keah-Woah, you got fat," he blurted, unmindful of the common social etiquette that quite clearly stated: never mention a mare's weight. Ever. The common social etiquette that popped up in his mind right after he spoke.
He panicked, shaking his head back and forth rapidly as he tried to think. He needed to fix this, like right now, because if he didn't fix it then he would have been really really rude and rude is bad bad bad and bad is Keahi not liking him and not talking to him and that is bad and it makes Imperio very very sad.
"Not that being fat is bad, of course not, no, never," he said with a dament shake of his head as he walked closer to Keahi. "Not bad at all." He gave another emphatic head shake, making his mane do a decent imitation of a twister around his head and causing his vision to go just slightly lopsided. "I mean, it's very very good after all, it means you are healthy and good and have strong bones. Yeah, good strong bones because then you'll be strong and good and um, um.. yeah."
Imperio hung his head in defeat, a soft dispondent whinny escaping his throat. "Wahhh~" he said with a hysterical cry, "I'm sorry Keahi. Really really really sorry. Wahhh~ I fail at life, and now Keahi's going to hate me forever and ever and ever~"

Keahi sighed, closing her eyes and waiting for the torrent of apologies spewing out of Imperio's mouth to settle down. As she waited, she pondered how exactly to break the news to him. The fact that he thought her fat paled in comparison to the omnipresent fear of causing a full-grown stallion (albeit a coltish one) to faint.
Imperio, i'm...
Imperio, you...
Imperio, you and I...
She opened her eyes, fixing him with a determined stare. Her crimson eyes almost seemed to glow.
"Imperio, i'm not fat. The 'fat' is actually children." .... Oh no. That came out totally wrong. Knowing the way the stallion's hyperactive mind worked, it was almost 100% certain that he would come to the conclusion that she had eaten foals.
"I mean..." She faltered, her gaze flickering to the ground. Her sides heaved as she took an enormous breath, steadying her nerves as she prepared for what was to come. Best to put it bluntly.
"Imperio, I'm pregnant."

"Pregnant, pregnant, pregnant?" Imperio repeated, looking up at Keahi with a decidedly confused look on his face. "Pregnant, pregnant, pregant," he repeated again, his snout scrunching up in deep thought. Keahi was pregnant. Okay. Pregnant meant foals like when Grandaddy Orchu's mate had Arctica and Moosie-Moose. Urr... "... Imma be a daddy?" Imperio's brian died. Wait, wait, wait. "Imma be a daddy?"
"Urm..." Imperio faltered off, his mind going over and over that Keahi was preggers and that she was going to have foals and that Imperio was going to be a daddy and Keahi was going to be a mommy and his mind just died.
"Wait, wait, wait. I dun get it. Imma be a daddy and Keahi's going to be a mommy but... how? How did our babies get into your tummy? Did the stork bring them and you eat them? But why would Keahi eat out babies? Was she really really hungry or were our babies cold and you thought that they'd be warmer in your stomach? Keahi~" Imperio cried. "I'm confused~ I asked Uncle Orion once where foals came from and he said that it had to do something with rolling in hay but I didn't understand because we don't really have a lot of hay here and I certainly don't remember there be hay, and hay can't have babies can it? Because hay is, like, not alive really. Not that hay can't be alive, no, no, because hay has feeling jsut like I do but I don't think a baby can come out of a pile of hay because, because, of, urm, somethig. Yeah. But hay can't have babies and Keahi's going to have babies and she's not hay so yeah. Urm. I'm confuzzled. Help me?" Imperio brightened up at the end of his spiel, because he was confused but anytime he was confused Keahi could help me because she was smart smart smart.
That and he was going to be a DADDY. He didn't understand how he was going to be a daddy but daddy's are fun and happy and cool like Grandaddy Orchu, and he was going to be the most rockin' daddy. Ever.

Keahi breathed a heart sigh of relief, pleased that he seemed to be taking this so well. A moment later, the full weight of the stallion's questions hit her.
She gaped at him, looking quite like a fish who'd just been told that water was of figment of it's imagination.
He... surely he knew how babies were... made? He's a stallion! He... He... he....
Has the mental capacity of a foal.
Keahi sighed, closing her mouth abruptly and pondering how best to word her response.
"Within us all, there burns a fire of love. It does not harm us, because love is a good thing and thus is not capable of evil deeds. This fire burns brightly when those we care for are near. Sometimes, if we get close enough to the one we love, then the fire will flare up and touch the flames of our loved ones. When that happens, the fires will merge and we will feel warm. That warm feeling means that the female has accepted the other into her heart's flame, and thus has accepted their merged flame into herself... and once that flame enters her body, it begins to grow until life spouts out of the warm cocoon of love. TA DAA! Baby."
She nodded sagely. "Flames make babies."

Imperio listened with rapt attention as Keahi explained the baby-making process. He'd never really understood where babies came from because no one had ever really bothered to tell him. No, wait. He remembered once when Uncle Orion had started to explain but then turned really really red and ran off.
As Keahi finished Imperio scrunched up his face in deep thought. Flames make babies. Flames make babies? But did that mean that every night when the two-leggers built a fire by the teepee, they were making babies?
So wait, he and Keahi made a big fire of LOVE with each other? When did that happen? Urr... He paused in thought, rumaging through his memories as he tried to remember when Keahi and him and made a fire. Turning up with a blank, he gaver a shrug. They -must- have made a fire together at one point other Keahi wouldn't be really really pregnant, which she was. And if Keahi said that they made of fire, they must of made a fire. Imperio nodded in an all-knowing way. That made sense, right?
... Not really, but Imperio was willing to take Keahi's word on it.
"Fires make babies. Okay, okay. I get it now!" Imperio suddently said, after thinking long and hard about Keahi's explanation. "Therefore, we made a fire together and BOOM, Keahi is preggers, preggers, preggers. Yay~!"
"Oh, oh, oh, Keahi," Imperio said, scotting closer to the mare and nudging her gently with his head. "That means we are going to be parents, right? Me and you, right, right, right? And you're going to be a mommy and Imma be a daddy and we're going to be a really really big family! Yay, yay, yay~!"
Finally hit with the thought that he was going to have a big family with Keahi, that he was going to have little foals running around make made Imperio want to dance. He didn't really know what dancing was though, but the two-leggers did it often enough and it was kinda like a jiggling-walk and they did it when they were happy so it must be good. He did a canter around Keahi and gave his tail a happy flick. His eyes sparkled in excitement and he gave Keahi another excited nudge. "Family, family, family~" he said in a sing-song voice. "Family, family, family. Isn't this great~ We're going to have BABEHS. TOGETHER. KYA~"
