THE HOGWARTS MONTHLY IS RETURNING!
But we need help from the students to get it on its feet.
I would like each house to contribute at least one story, word game, interview, or similar. You may work in groups or individually. PM your stories to me along with your house and a pen-name if you want to use one. The heads of houses will go through them and select the best one to three tidbits from every house (this includes the House elves!). You have until May 10th to submit your work.
This thread is mainly for questions, discussion, suggestions, or brainstorming. Please don't post your possible stories here. We want them to be surprising and new to most when the paper comes out in May.
Don't worry about coming up with our headline news - the mods will take care of that one. 3nodding
You may view this as a contest, because only our very favorites will end up in the paper. We do have limited space, you know. So don't feel bad if your work doesn't quite make it; it's entirely possible that it qualified, but was crowded out by a slightly better bit.
The best piece from Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and the Kitchens will represent that house near the head of the paper. Other noteworthy pieces will also be present. You may create and submit up to three pieces, but please diversify them. That means you can send us an editorial, an advertisement, and a comic, but not three different sports stories.
Understood? Good.
Possible ideas: arrow An interview with a specific group of people or person arrow A general wizarding-world news article arrow A general Hogwarts/Hogsmede news article arrow News story arrow Comic strip(s) [please do not take from other artists] arrow Games - word, riddle, matching, quiz... arrow Advertisements or Classifieds arrow Editorial arrow Short story or poetry that might be found in a wizarding school newspaper (aka: no fanfiction). This might be a good collaboration bit (poetry by Slytherin students? Crazy adventures of hapless Hufflepuffs? You decide.)
You may wish to use pictures in your article...just make sure that they're properly referenced if they don't belong to you.
Creativity is wanted, humor appreciated, and good grammar a must!
Good luck, and good writing!

I may have an idea for this I could do on my own. It won't do to have no material for the issue!
Here is my idea:
Miss Pong's Quick-fix Potions
I like potions. I think it would be great if I could include a recipe column, where I could supply instructions for potions I have found useful. They would be basic in nature, so as anyone with general skill can do them, and of my own design.
I have already started one for this issue. Please tell me if you think this is a good or bad idea.
If you approve, I will finish the recipe I'm doing and submit it!

This sounds interesting. Go ahead, give it a try. Just remember to send it to me, and not post it in here. 3nodding

I know this is a bit late, but maybe the entire HM doesn't have to be fictional... we should also include a news section (of course this is after the current issue...) Alutian ignore this for the most part... here for reference

Thus far we have:
Two stories from one person in Slytherin One story from one house elf
Come on, people, where are the Hufflepuffs? The Ravenclaws? Gryffindors? We can do better than this! Tell your housemates about this even if you don't want to write anything!

I'm not sure quite what you mean...are you after something like a monthly book review/recommendation? If so, you can go ahead and submit one. It sounds like a neat idea.
Brainstorm suggestion, you don't need to take it: Write a review for a real muggle book as well as a made-up wizard one for entertainment value. whee

I'd like to do an advice comumn, if that's alright. People could PM me questions, real or jokes, and tell me whether or not they want to be anonymous, and I'll give them advice. On months when no one applies, I'll make up a joke question letter and answer it. Oh, and since my RP name is Siobhan Wise, I'd call my column "A Word to the Wise." What do you think?

"I personally think that sounds great DaBonster!! So let me get this straight, it can be fiction or non-fiction story however, fanfiction is not wanted?? Hmmmmm" Princess stands to ponder some ideas, and walks back to the common room talking to herself.

So far these are the features (add the ones I forgot) for the new and improved Hogwart's Monthly: *An advice column *Meet _____ column *One contribution from each House and Elves
What other features will we have?? Are we gonna make the recipe thing a feature too??
EDIT: Some ideas from me (we can't forget that since it's going to be our newspaper we don't want everyone to give stories...there'll be a headline sort of (assuming that here) which can cover all the story part of it) is that we have five features and each month a House (including elves) is responsible for a different feature. And then we'll have someone to help with the story itself (if the whole storyline thing works out) that could be the Monthly's basic structure.

I think a horoscope section would be fun. *_* I would even help out with it or do it if needed. I just love those, and it could be loads of fun.

I was just thinking about suggesting a horoscope section for those stuck without ideas. If you'd like to do this, Hayden, go ahead. Hurry, though, the deadline is coming up fast.
Icee: The structure I had in mind was this:
Headline story The five House-Featured stories Any additional stories, ads, etc. that caught our eyes.
Simple.
