Fel Essence

INDEX
Section 01: Should a semi-custom occur, these are up for consideration. ONLY CRIT THESE
Section 02: These are Essences that are in heavy need of revamping but don't want to leave Snoof alone.
Section 03: Essence grab! If these are listed here, take them, Snoof doesn't care. Just let her know so she can remove it afterwards.
Section 04: Essence art, regardless of condition or section placement

SECTION 01

Darkling Cactus
In a dark cave where no light shines, a small cactus is sitting comfortably, far from its natural habitat. Cacti have adapted to and prefer the direct sunlight and random moisture from their desert homes but this cactus seems to shrivel in the light and enjoys the dampness of a cavern.

Healing Omen
A crow is usually a harbinger of impending death, but this black feather was knocked off of a crow as it was sucked up into the storm. In the aftermath, it landed against an injured animal, sealing up the wound and helping it to continue living. An omen of death that heals the living.

Mirage of Fear v.02
Inside of the bottle lay a perfectly innocent daisy*, just up against the glass. Nothing seemed strange about it, iseeming perfectly natural. The more time you spent around it, however, you couldn't help but feel like you were being watched. Apprehensive whenever it was near, you hid it away from yourself and things were fine, for a time, until you dug it up again, certain it was just a coincidence. Then things became worse, hallucinations, mental horrors, the innocent object inside was projecting your fears!
* - It doesn't have to be a daisy, I just couldn't think of anything more decent then what Mouse had suggested. If Kyou can think of something more interesting, then by all means, do it! The fear from innocence is the only thing that's important here.

Healthy Toxin
Animal venom can be deadly enough to kill six humans with a single bite, but this collected venom isn't detrimental to one's form; in fact, quite the opposite! It acts as an anti-venom without needing to be altered and makes one feel refreshed!

Corroding Mercury
Mercury, the liquid metal, amalgamates with almost all metals or minerals. This mercury, however, won't combine itself with anything else. It will, however, cause the object it touches to act like itself; most notably its poisonous aspects. Due to this, it seems its buoyancy is offset and it seems to swallow solid objects instead of allowing them to float on its surface.

Solid Mercury
Also known as quicksilver, mercury has the lowest melting point of all metals, only becoming a solid at temperatures lower than −38 °F and stays as a liquid at any temperature higher. Within this vial is a small chunk of solid mercury that seems to act exactly opposite; it becomes a solid at temperatures higher than −38 °F and melts when at a temperature lower.

SECTION 02

Empty Chrysalis
A cocoon, perfectly formed, sits at the bottom of a vial. It is transparent, empty, though there are no breaks or cracks. It is as if whatever formed the Chrysalis simply disappeared from within. The remnants of the moth’s designs are still visible, a light grey though lined with the color of wine, they look like veins. Perhaps the chrysalis fed off of what it was originally meant to grow and change until it was no more.

Unmeltable Copper
Found at a long inactive volcano base, this collection of copper had been deposited inside of the lava and it remains untouched, and perfectly formed since. The metal chunks remain solid even during heat tests, withstanding temperatures above and beyond copper's documented melting point.

SECTION 03

Abandoned Life
Inside of the vial, some lightly colored dirt, almost the color of dust, rests. Occasionally it will stir, lashing out against the bottle, and then settle down again. More usual is it taking different shapes of various body parts, the most common being a heart or bone. It is a decayed life that refuses to continue on the natural cycle, but wants to continue existing for eternity.

Heart of the Sea
Laying at the bottom of the glass is what appears to be a pearl, white and shining. Closer inspection, however, reveals small blue veins spider webbing across it beneath the clear surface and... what was that? Beat. Beat. The pearl is pulsating like a heart! With each beat the veins grow more obvious and the pearl actually expands, shrinking again and growing less obvious as it calms.

Twilight Dust
Floating helplessly in the vial are six or so small specks, entirely invisible to the naked eye until they are brought into the shadows where they glow with a beautiful mix of gold, orange and pink. As Shira had sung her song of despair, a crack had formed in the sky, a very small crack, and from it came these small specks of dust, the remains of dusk just before the horrid storm. Only after it, did they fall to the earth.

Life Bringing Sludge
A thick, dark and slimy liquid that assaults the senses and burns to the touch. Such a thing brings pain to flesh and bone alike, and yet first a small bud is visible, but quickly it grows, roots, leaves, blooms. When in contact with plant life, this otherwise toxic liquid fertilizes and feeds, the exact opposite reaction. It is possible that the terrible storm had struck the mighty Yggdrasil Tree, and this may have been the sap that leaked forth.

Snoof has decided to pretty much toss away all of her wanting of a specific Essence or pattern. She just wants a goddamn crocodile.

Crocodiles are among the more biologically complex reptiles despite their prehistoric look. Unlike other reptiles, they incorporate muscles used for aquatic locomotion into respiration (e.g. M. diaphragmaticus), giving them the functional equivalent of a diaphragm; a cerebral cortex; and a four-chambered heart. Their external morphology on the other hand is a sign of their aquatic and predatory lifestyle. A crocodile’s physical traits allow it to be a successful predator. They have a streamlined body that enables them to swim swiftly. Crocodiles also tuck their feet to their sides while swimming, which makes them faster by decreasing water resistance. They have webbed feet which, although not used to propel the animal through the water, allow it to make fast turns and sudden moves in the water or initiate swimming. Webbed feet are an advantage in shallower water where the animals sometimes move around by walking.

Crocodilian scales have pores that are believed to be sensory, analogous to the lateral line in fishes. They are particularly seen on their upper and lower jaws. Another possibility is that they are secretory, as they produce an oily substance that appears to flush mud off.

Crocodiles are very fast over short distances, even out of water. Since crocodiles feed by grabbing and holding onto their prey, they have evolved sharp teeth for tearing and holding onto flesh, and powerful muscles that close the jaws and hold them shut. These jaws can bite down with immense force, by far the strongest bite of any animal. The crocodile's bite force is more than 5,000 pounds per square inch (340 atm), compared to just 335 pounds per square inch (22.8 atm) for a rottweiler, 400 pounds per square inch (27 atm) for a large great white shark, or 800 pounds per square inch (54 atm) to 1,000 pounds per square inch (68 atm) for a hyena. The jaws are opened, however, by a very weak set of muscles. Crocodiles can thus be subdued for study or transport by taping their jaws or holding their jaws shut with large rubber bands cut from automobile inner tubes. They have limited lateral (side-to-side) movement in their neck.

Crocodiles are ambush hunters, waiting for fish or land animals to come close, then rushing out to attack. As cold-blooded predators, they have a very slow metabolism, and thus can survive long periods without food. Despite their appearance of being slow, crocodiles are top predators in their environment, and various species have been observed attacking and killing sharks. A famous exception is the Egyptian Plover which is said to enjoy a symbiotic relationship with the crocodile. According to unauthenticated reports, the plover feeds on parasites that infest the crocodile's mouth and the reptile will open its jaws and allow the bird to enter to clean out the mouth.

Many large crocodilians swallow stones (called gastroliths or stomach stones) which may act as ballast to balance their body or assist in crushing food, similar to grit in birds.

Salt glands are present in the tongues of most crocodylids and they have a pore opening on the surface of the tongue. They appear to be similar to those in marine turtles; they seem to be absent in Alligatoridae.

Crocodilians can produce sounds during distress and in aggressive displays. They can also hear well and the tympanic membranes are concealed by flat flaps that may be raised or lowered by muscles.

Crocodile embryos do not have sex chromosomes, and unlike humans sex is not determined genetically. Sex is determined by temperature, with males produced at around 31.6 °C, and females produced at slightly lower and higher temperatures. The average incubation period is around 80 days, and also is dependent upon temperature.

There is no reliable way of measuring crocodile age, although several techniques are used to derive a reasonable guess. The most common method is to measure lamellar growth rings in bones and teeth—each ring corresponds to a change in growth rate which typically occurs once a year between dry and wet seasons. Bearing these inaccuracies in mind, the oldest crocodilians appear to be the largest species. C. porosus is estimated to live around 70 years on average, and there is limited evidence that some individuals may exceed 100 years. One of the oldest crocodiles recorded died in a zoo in Russia. A male freshwater crocodile at the Australia Zoo is estimated to be 130 years old. He was rescued from the wild by Bob Irwin and Steve Irwin after being shot twice by hunters. As a result of the shootings, this crocodile (known affectionately as "Mr. Freshy") has lost his right eye.

The larger species of crocodiles are very dangerous to humans. The main danger that crocodiles pose is not their ability to run after a person but their ability to strike before the person can react. The Saltwater and Nile Crocodiles are the most dangerous, killing hundreds of people each year in parts of south-east Asia and Africa. Mugger crocodiles and possibly the endangered Black Caiman are also very dangerous to humans. American alligators are less aggressive and rarely assault humans without provocation.

The most deaths in a single crocodile attack incident may have occurred during the Battle of Ramree Island, on February 19, 1945, in Burma. Nine hundred soldiers of an Imperial Japanese Army unit, in an attempt to retreat from the Royal Navy and rejoin a larger battalion of the Japanese infantry, crossed through 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) of mangrove swamps which contained Saltwater Crocodiles. Twenty Japanese soldiers were captured alive by the British, and almost five hundred are known to have escaped Ramree. Many of the remainder may have been eaten by the crocodiles, although gunfire from the British troops was undoubtedly a contributory factor.

NAME: Anita Bishop
GENDER: Female
AGE: Nineteen
RACE: Gaian -- Human
OCCUPATION: Part-time game store clerk, odd jobs, student
RESIDENCE: Apartment in Gambino
LIKES: Video games, movies, technology, junk food, sleeping
DISLIKES: Math, school work, lots of movement, early schedules, not sleeping
COLOR: lightseagreen

APPEARANCE: A slim face with a slightly pronounced nose that she doesn't take kindly to; her face 'u' shaped and her chin is subtly clefted. Curly brown hair usually kept in two small braids at the back with her bangs are always free, it reaches to her shoulder blades after a recent hair cut. She usually has a fairly tired or bored look to her eyes, but it's easy to get her interested in things, and it shows in her eyes when she is; they are an oval shape, rarely opened all the way, and are green-hazel. Her skin is pale--not quite "china doll" but whiter than average--that leans toward a more peach complexion, dotted by not freckles but "beauty marks" as her mother calls them, the largest of which is located on the back of her right shoulder. Due to how she holds herself, it often surprises her at how easily people seem to recognize her after a first meeting but even her friend say she is memorable.

PERSONALITY: Anita would very much like to believe she's not exactly the "every girl" type, an individual. She relies heavily on her emotions, instincts and gut feelings while going to others for intellectual support when necessary. Her trust and loyalty doesn't come easily so if you have it you better consider it a privilege; she may seem trusting with just about everyone but it's just her getting along with them. When she's loyal, she's loyal to the end--unless you do something to mess that up, then her trust will take a long time to rebuild itself. Keep that in mind. Most often she is one of the more patient people you'll ever meet, though she does have many buttons; with new people, she will usually warn them of her pet peeve's the first time they do them, giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident. However, she is pretty bad about handling her anger; she lets small things get the better of her and she can go from mellow to eating your face in a few seconds, but it seems the more important and heavier things she just lets eat at her until she can't stand it anymore and lets it out in whatever way first presents itself. Anita doesn't so much hold grudges as her trust in people does; if you do something to wrong her such as lie or keep something very important from her, etcetera, she will let you tell your point and more than likely nothing will be wrong, but if you betray her in some way... consider yourself dumped. She seems to hold her composure well with things if others are present, as well as small talk with people as long as they're on (or act like they're on) the same level with her. When speaking to people of an obviously higher authority, she usually goes a bit meek and perhaps tries a little too hard to compose herself; monotony is very annoying and she isn't merciful towards ignorance. Currently, however, it is unusual to see her without a smile.

HISTORY: Born in Barton two a not-so-happy mother and father, Anita barely remembers even having a father for the first year of her life. Life started off lower-middle class, not much wealth to their name, and when her mother divorced her father, they took what they had and set up shop in Aekea. The industrial setting was odd for her, growing up, as her mother was slightly contradictory and thought it was cute if she would wear dresses all the time. Her education flourished, elementary, middle, finally she was beginning to really get a sense of herself. Occasionally she would get a detention, however, and the very first one devistated her but she moved on and kept her gades high. As anyone will tell you, highschool was not her favorite time and she's very thankful to have it done with, however her reasoning in this is different than most; around sophomore year, her father contacted her for the first time outside of birthday cards and visits began occuring. At first it was an interesting experience, albeit awkward, and she felt there was little harm but as the weekend visits grew in number, eventually spanning breaks, she began to see that he was a very frustrating individual and she would need to be careful, lest they both get their tempers in a knot--the one thing they really had in common. Her grades dipped but she continued to pass, though math and science were her weakest subjects, and she managed to pass even while dealing with the infuriating teenage masses. Her senior year, she decided to drop out of the public school rat race and work on her own schedule, asking her mother for some backing in homeschooling. The senior year was successful online and Anita felt accomplished. So accomplished, in fact, that she jumped at the chance to try and do more things on her own...such as moving out. Her father, who owned a real estate company, offered her a duplex to stay in that was not in use but not in the market listing yet, so Anita packed her bags and moved there with Tango in tow. It was in Durem, a place she hadn't gone before, and she felt very much at home in the city, meeting several friends and acquaintances. During the first month of the new year, her father retracted her stay there, putting it back on the market with very little warning, and she was booted out in a hurry. She's since moved back in with her mother in Gambino but not everything has been unpacked.

MISCELLANIOUS: She's not the healthiest she could be, and appears to be quite medicated. However most, if not all, pills she consumes are actually vitamins due to her diet--or lack thereof. Most prominently, she has an iron deficiency, anemia, which could lead to spontaneous dizzy spells. The only other thing worth mentioning is that her joints are long and at times weak; this can lead to her needing to sit down more often than normal people, complaining of aches and pains, etc. She usually tries to keep a lid on it unless it's inhibiting her from working or enjoying herself, though.

Mother's name is Minerva, she's about 42, a bit large in body type. Enjoys gardening as a hobby, as well as reading romance novels with ACTION [she regularly tells Anita they're not the sappy smut crap], usually about medieval times. Her occupation is head of security at the Bank of Gambino so she gets to order all of the other security guards around but it's a usual nine to five. The pay is good and this job is about a year old; prior, she worked as a police officer in Aekea but was injured and Anita's grandmother forked over a lot of money to Minerva to ask her to quit. Minvera "quit" but still wanted to provide protection so now she works on the sidelines. Married young, she divorced Anita's father only a year after her birth and won full custody.

Writing

I am pleased to say I have been roleplaying for about six years now, as far as text goes. Upon first starting with text, I was admittedly terrible, one liners all over the place, no descriptions and (worst of all) I roleplayed on Neopets. I outgrew this trend quite quickly, as I was always an apt reader and decided "I need to make my words pretty", and so I ventured away from Neopets and their terrible character limits towards a different kind of forum. InvisionFree. There I was greeted and accepted by many a roleplayer and was helped along in finding a style all my own.
It wasn't long after this I was brought to Gaia. At first I didn't know it could be used for roleplaying, but eventually I explored out of the usual chat areas and made my first one x one thread. That is mostly what I've been doing for almost a year now, strictly, though with one friend of mine rather then random Gaians. We each have a similar style and, more often then not, match our lengths, and our ideas seem to be boundless.

Sometimes we jump around, though. One of us may be interested in one of our roleplays, and the other in a different one all together. With Lab 305, I was awe struck, captivated. I had literally fallen in love. I hope that this love will be welcomed and accepted as I attempt to make a home for myself here in this terribly interesting place.

That is my wish.

Sample Introduction

The ship landed with practiced ease onto a piece of blue toned cobbles seemingly floating on a pool of clear but still incredibly azure water. Amongst the straight line of lake were scattered bits of what used to be flooring, matching the cobbles they stood upon, all held up by stalactites beneath the completely still waters. Up and up these pieces of rock and building went, eventually coming to what appeared to be an archway, but the angle was such that nothing more could be seen from their current stand point. Two other things caught Sera's eyes immediately upon stepping out from the gummi ship: there was a large, golden and off-white castle off in the far distance, seemingly split between itself, similar to the yin-yang or as if it had actually gone through a blender.

And oh yes.

The falls.

On either side of their current position and even behind them, the water slowly made its way to the edge of the lake and then... rose. It was taken upward, defying all forms of gravity, and continued on above their position. All she could think that would be up there was flat ocean, but even so, how could water achieve such a feet? Could it be that certain worlds didn't need to abide by the laws of physics?

Speechless, she wandered to the edge of their current platform, looking ahead at the foot-wide gap between her and the next one, a circular, almost icy looking one that was just barely attached by a thin piece of rock on the very bottom. It looked so precarious she felt that if she just sneezed at it the thing would topple over. Right behind that was another, identical platform, quite possibly with the same distance between it as well as the precarious standing, but after that was a much sturdier looking chunk of floor more similar to the one they were on at the moment. It would be tricky attempting to jump across those, and she could only imagine how could the water must be with such icy adornments practically floating above it.

She turned towards her company, removing the black hooded sweatshirt from her waist and pulling it on over her head and leaving the hood up for now, feeling rather chilled, "Sid... wh-... what is this place? ...How can...?" she couldn't quite form the question at the moment, still too confused about the falls, for the most part, and so she pointed at them, muttering 'gravity fails' under her breath, though she doubted either of them could have heard it.

The castle was an interesting place; he had been there for the last hour or so, just wandering about, waiting for this "warm up" Hades had told him about. The only things on his mind at that moment were who he was going to get to kill, and when were they going to arrive.

Heartless wandered about aimlessly, ignoring him entirely, just floating, flying, or slinking on by. There were many different types around, but the ones that got a reaction out of him were the small Shadows and the Dark Balls. Both of them, he recalled, from his own world. The Dark Balls were knocking into each other, bouncing about in the sewers beneath the castle. Occasionally one of their three appendages would get caught on another and they would have to hit each other to free themselves, which he found amusing and incredibly creepy all at the same time. The Shadows weren't very worrying--he remembered them being quite weak--but their presence was still a little unsettling, knowing they were the precursor to his own world's destruction.

Dark Link sat on the edge of a floating platform, Dimiourgima at his side, hunched over slightly and his arms resting on his legs. All attention for the moment was cast far off, towards the Rising Falls. That was a curious area and, despite all current feelings of disdain for just about everything in existence, he rather enjoyed his brief time over there.

A flicker of movement.

His eyes glanced over at the lowering speck, which he assumed to be some sort of large bird or something. Wait... hadn't Hades said something about "ships"? It surely wasn't a sea fairing vessel, floating and all, and as it landed he stood, bringing his new sword in hand. Just a few more minutes passed before a feeling suddenly struck him.

Power. Of some sort.

"Hhn... So you're my warm up..." a toothy grin grew on his face, starting first as amused and then turning incredibly malicious.

Dark Link leaped down from his perch and crouch upon landing, taking a second before standing up and making his way shortly to the lift at the front most platform jutting out from the castle. If he remembered correctly, they wouldn't be able to see the lift coming down from that low standpoint. Excellent. He could mess with them a bit, considering the contraption was a bit loud.

Staring at it for a moment, he stepped on, and then jumped back off of it again, returning to the castle platform as the golden, cage shaped vessel moved downwards, towards the Falls, riding on what appeared to be a magenta beam of light that had a pulse get sent through it regularly. It would be a few more minutes, but as soon as that lift stopped... that would be his cue.

Response Sample

The skeleton floated limply in the air, slowly turning from a pose of vague relaxation to upright, all just barely held together by the small bits of marrow and sinew that connected them. For a small moment it seemed nothing else would occur, just that the bones would continue to float aimlessly in mid-air.

A swift jolt of them ended that assumption, the bones suddenly going rigid as small, minuscule red dots began appearing all over it, growing, moving, slithering. Muscle. It formed slowly, snaking its way across the dry frame, creating its layers. Soon features began appearing across the face, a nose, the small formation of ears which appeared to be lengthy and pointed, and eyes that seemed to grow from the very nerve endings in the back of the head, though they were rolled up, only the vein covered whites visible at that very moment.

No doubt a painful experience.

It didn't take long for skin to begin to piece its way on, the tissue starting to get covered in that fleshy sack that was oh-so-necessary to every living thing. The muscled features were given more depth; eyelids, lips, actual ears. Then the less complicated bits like nails and hair seemed to grow themselves out.

In a blast of fire the body suddenly dropped, blocked from view for a short time. ...Slowly it cleared, and the miraculously perfectly formed, fully clothed, seemingly elfen man stood dazed for just a moment, collapsing to his knees and then falling forward to the floor.

...Had life actually reached him?

First off, I'd like to thank you for having read the front page thoroughly and getting a good idea of how fel essences work before setting up your quest thread. You definitely did your homework, and that shows that you're not just here to get a shiny sig trophy.

You don't seem too familiar with the alignment system that's being used here - that's okay, I wasn't either when I started lurking around here. XD The first part of an alignment can be either Lawful, Neutral, or Chaotic, and the second part is Good, Neutral, or Evil. So it shows what 'side' they're on and the, uh, style they use, I guess. Nine kinds of alignments in total, but there's a lot of ways to interpret each so it's not as restricting as it seems at the first glance. 8D A Lawful Neutral could be an alignment for a typical scientist character, but it would also fit on a character who believes in upholding the natural order over everything else.

Alright, now time for the fun part! 8D; Okay, so with your current fel essence concepts we have a problem not with bad ideas, but with ones that might be too close to existing ones, which gets to be more and more of a problem as more Raevans are made. XD; I personally think both of them are pretty cool... but I know that Ac.Wings is going after a gargoyle soul for her Raevan, and that may or may not present a problem. Ultimately that would be up for the shopkeeper and Wings, I would think.

Sun and Moon Shards is similar to a currently OOC (as in, he's not ICly an existing Raevan and has no owner) named Zul, whose fel essence is a Lava Ice Rock. It's mainly how you're portraying it with the conflicting temperatures and not the idea itself, so it could still be useable with a little bit of reworking. Just be careful since there's also several sky and celestial body-themes essences that already exist officially or as ideas - RoChan's quest essence is Liquid Moonlight, for example, and how the Sun and Moon Shards are 'formed' right now kind of reminds me of Natsuki's Fragments O' Rainbow. I still think the basic idea has some potential, so there's no reason to just give it up! XD Maybe look up some folklore concerning the sun and the moon to get some ideas. :3

You have some neat ideas listed for souls, but... Fenrisulfr might be pushing it just a little bit. He could be classified as a god, and it's considered both unethical and unfair to capture the soul of one since it would possibly mess with the natural order of things as well as giving the resulting Raevan an unfair amount of power. I can say for just about everyone that it would be awesome to see a plant, reptile or mammal soul here, though. 8D

Ahhh, I see D: I'll have to do some tweaking with mine, then. Dang, I probably should have read through a few of the quests and such more to see if my Fel Essences/souls were conflicting with anyone elses xD ah well. I'll come up with something.

Also, thanks for catching me on that o_9'' I'm used to the one I was using so I'll be sure to fix it up to this one~

Also, ahhh, I was thinking it might. A wolf in general would be nice, really, I think that was the main thing, and so I just jumped on Fenrir >w< maybe if I get a wolf, that's just what his name will be~ hmm -ponders more-

Did you have any possible suggestions for maybe some reptiles and such? I tried doing a search earlier and I had a couple ideas before but then I rethought them. Same goes for plants, though I do have one in mind, but it's very feminine xD -mainly wants males, as is obvious-

Aw dang.. xD the bat'll probably be the one to win, then, unless I find a really cool plant or reptile.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 12, 2008 10:37 am

The first reptile idea that comes to mind is a tokay gecko. They're are colorful as they are mean. XD But if you want something not as bad-idea-for-an-apartment-pet, there's also alligators and komodo dragons and ANACONDAS. I can't think of any Raevans with reptile souls currently in existence, so the sky's the limit as far as that's concerned.

Freakin' awesome.

I'll look through a list of different lizards and snakes soon. One I was actually considering was a chameleon, and for a plant, the foxglove, but it's so girly, hehehe >w< still hoping to find some sort of canine, as well, even if it's not a wolf, so would anyone be against an African Wild Dog or a coyote? I'm leaning more towards the first, but either one would be nice~

Possible snakes... an anaconda would be interesting. I keep thinking of this veeery very long, yellow and white snake and I can't think of what type it is, but that would also be a cool one, as well as a cobra of some sort.
