Most people suppose witches are green, with pimples on their noses, and they ride broom sticks with blacks cats. So when someone calls you a "witch", they don't mean the term in which we mean. Are you offended by it, if you have ever been called it, or do you take it as a joke?

I used to take it in a bad way when I first became Wiccan. I though that everyone was just doing it to irritate me, and some of them were. Then a little while later my mom gave me a speech on how I shouldn't care about what others think. She thought it was funny because the next thing I said was "So... I don't have to listen to you right now?". But I did take her advice, and the next day at school, I guess my friends told their other friends I was Wiccan, and it went around the whole school. People started yelling "Faeries aren't real!" and "Go to hell, witch!". I was really upset. I went home to my mom and told her. My mom had reminded me about the speech that was explained the other day, and taught me some things to say back. They were cheesy, and somewhat stupid things to say, but it worked. Now whenever they say witch to me, I just say "Thank you" because I really don't care what they say about me.

That's all that really matters now. If you really do love who you are, you won't care what people say about you in this world. They'll never know who you are when they act like that. Never change because of someone else's opinion. I hope that helps a little.

That actually reminds me of when I was a freshman in highschool and people found out what I was. It didn't really bother me and oddly enough, even though I live in a small southern town, I got more questions than I got insults (to my face of course). I remember having to explain the witch and warlock thing over and over again. Most people didn't understand that warlock is an insult to most wiccans. I think some people were afraid of me but they never said anything. "Witch" wasn't used very often but when it was I never really took it as an insult. I learned very early in life that a lot of people are small-minded and ignorant so I shouldn't pay any attention to them.
