I recently broke a string on my SG and didn't feel like going to get a new set. But I felt like playing so I picked up my Strat(single coil). So I start playing and I immediatley notice the diffrence the strat felt so weak in comparison. But when I got it the strat was my first guitar so I didn't know any better at the time.
This is not meant in anyway to insult strat fanatics. So anyway I just wanted to see what you guys/girls prefer.

I don't know which one I like better. I like my humbuckers for rhythm and for heavy playing. But I like my single coils for my lead and sometimes my clean setting. I know what you mean, it does sound weaker.

Its not only the pickups that make the strat sound weak, it's also the type of wood it's made out of, and the fact that it's a naturally lighter guitar. Gibsons tend to have a very nice thick sound as the bodies are basically wooden blocks.
Yup. As for pickups, a strat with a single coil in the bridge would definately sound much weaker than an SG.
Just my two cents.
