Ow. Sable winced. Without realizing her error she went for her knee, to rub and comfort and most importantly, see what hurt it. The bowl full of food, neglected, was immediately dropped to the floor, scattering everywhere. Sable didn't notice. The slight pain was distracting her.

"Sable!" Mia shouted and went over to her, "Are you ok?" She bent down and checked Sable's knee. After all this time, Mia had grown to treat Sable not simply as a boarder, but more like a daughter. She didn't even notice when she started to worry about the pesky girl.

"It hurts," Sable explained, "Like a sting or something." She muttered. She hated it when Mia turned protective. She pulled away from her guardian and stood up again. It hurt. It hurt to stand. It wasn't that bad, just like an ache that wouldn't go away, a pulsing that beat steady. "I'm ok now." she assured her guardian even though her knee still burned.

They both went to pick up the food that fell to the floor. It was mostly Raw Vegetables which lived in the ground normally, so it was only a matter of re washing them. Sable was glad, she would hate to have Mia angry with her over something so... minor.

Plus. It was only her knee. The pain would be gone soon right?

But the pain didn't go away. It left her knee of course, but Sable found herself tripping and stopping and dropping thinks more frequently due to the pain moving around to her wrists, her back and her feet. No matter what she did, no matter how much she rested the pain wouldn't go away.

When she was out in the town she could over hear some towns people giggling at her misery. "The gods are just." some would say snickering as they passed her. These people obviously had no sense of humor, but apparently according to them, the gods did.

Sable didn't want to go to Mia about this. It would only needlessly worry her, since there was nothing she could do that she hadn't already tried. She sighed. There was one person she could see and she didn't want to, but right now she didn't have a choice.

That morning despite the pains in her shins, Sable dressed and acted like nothing was wrong. She ate breakfast and waited until Mia left for the day before heading out to town.

The building was slightly run down, like the man within, but Sable didn't trust anyone else to help her, even if the man hated her. She knocked.

"coming coming." the man mumbled from within, and opened the door. He was a scruffy old main, gray hair, old thread barren clothes, and a cane he used to support himself. Many people of this large city didn't know that this man was a doctor. He had stopped advertising it a long time ago, even before Sables bottle was made.

He had decided, he told Sable one day when she discovered him, that he would care for his dedicated patients, and let the rest move on, so that he could, when it was his time, move on easily as well.

The problem with this was that fate and the gods seemed to like him living, so despite his old age and the fact that he was ready to, the man was still very much alive. And Pretty angry. His eyes opened wide at this image of Sable at his door. She waved, sheepishly and waited for what she knew would likely happen.

The door being slammed in her face. Which was only natural since Sable liked to prank the poor man, and he had a natural talent for catching her.

"Mr. Seth!" she called out, and knocked on his door again, "Please Mr. Seth I need your help!"

"Go away Sable, I don't need an egg on my head, or a rat in my pants today thank you." He called back.

"Please Mr. Seth, I really do need your help, I promise I have no eggs or rats or any pranks please let me in!" Even as a kid her speech was very defined, if slightly slurred in child speak.

"No means No Sable. Can't you give an old man his rest?" He retorted through the door.

"Please-" She stopped. The pain had moved again, but this time it was in her back. It was there once before. It wasn't horrible, but it was enough to shock her into collapsing.

Before she just got herself up again, but she couldn't seem to move this time. It really didn't hurt that bad, but something must have gone wrong. She tried to knock on the door, but it was useless, as the entire world seemed to go black.

A bright light stirred Sable from a sleep she didn't know she had taken. She looked around, she was clearly not outside anymore, and the dusty old wood was familiar.

"You could have said that you were in pain you ninny." Mr. Seth chided.

"What part of 'help' wasn't clear?" Sable mumbled as she tried to get up, but felt to dizzy to do so.

"The you were hurting part." Mr. Seth responded. He brought over a glass of water and two white things that were circular and handed them to Sable, "Put the pills in your mouth and swallow them whole using the water." He instructed, "Then lay down again, your body hasn't fully recovered from paralysis yet, and we don't want to risk you staying that way." He warned.

Sable did as she was told. Once she was lying she asked simply, "Can I still talk?"

"Yes, in fact I want you to tell me what you did to get this way." He commanded in a harsh, yet caring tone.

"I don't know, just suddenly I starting to feel stinging all around my body, it wasn't harsh or sever just kind of like pricks. But they would stick around for a long time. In fact they never went away they just seemed to move." she sighed, "Everyone's saying its the gods punishing me, but I don't think they'd be this specific."

"I don't either." Mr. Seth Agreed, "What happened outside was your spine collapsed and pinched a bunch of the nerves, shocking them into Paralysis." He explained, "Something must be straining your joints, do you do anything rigorous beyond pranking, on a daily basis? Anything that would effect your body this way?"

Sable went quiet. There was one thing she could think of. She had been shrinking a lot lately. It made it easier to travel and hide and so she often did it, instead of walking or just hiding on her own. But how to explain it to Mr. Seth? She sighed and went for it, "I have been shrinking a lot lately." she explained.

Mr. Seth looked at her, "Then you might have a bone illness if your becoming shorter..." he considered.

"No, that's not it." Sable explained calmly, "I can shrink into the size of a... she considered, "open palmed hand." She explained, "At will." She added, "Any time I want." She hoped he would understand.

"Ah, so if what you are saying is in fact true..." he paused, "Then the effect of shrinking size often must negatively effect your joints." he looked around his room for something, then he found it, "If you need to, take this, it will help ease joint pain, but remember not to shrink if you can help it ok?" He handed her the bottle, "and no shrinking for the next week." He explained.

"Alright," she agreed, "What time is it Mr. Seth?" She asked, worried that Mia would be worried.

"It is 5 hours past noon," he explained, "But you can't leave. I'll phone your guardian and let her know to come pick you up in a bit when you can move." Mr. Seth explained, and just before he left the room he warned, "and don't move, if you stay still you'll get better quicker."

Sable verbally confirmed this as she cursed in her mind that her mom would find out. Oh well, at least she'd get better.
