"What a waste of a day," snapped the large stallion under his breath as he paced through the thinning woods. His hooves came down quite hard on the fallen branches, snapping them without a second thought. Though the sky was now dark and his only source of that was that of the moon and the stars, the Kalona saw with ease. Icey eyes stared unseeingly ahead of him as he continued his unaimed storming. If his daughter were nearby she would have been the vent for his anger as she was the cause of his frustration that night.
It was stupid enough he had followed after his worthless sister down to the lowlands and even stupider to have a daughter with one of his sister's kind... But it was just simply ridiculous to chase after his daughter if she decided to go screw around. She'd have to show her face sometime, that ugly reminder of horrible judgement. Of course, he didn't think so ill of his daughter usually, as he was proud she was such a fitting image of himself... But when she didn't show up to their daily training, it was incredibly irritating.
His thoughts were broken by the strong scent of salt in the air. He grimaced at the change in the smell, as it was very unpleasant to his nose. But then again, everything down here was. His home was in the mountains wher ehe was surrounded by ice cold snow, bitter winds, and a cozy cave... Oh, and the fact meals were easier to catch up there. There was always the "duuur" Soquili that went up the path alone... And never came back. Down here, meals were hard to come by.
But there were maybe two things he did like about the lowlands. The scenery is nice, and... The mares aren't all that bad looking. Their attitudes however, are a different story.

It wasn't unusual for her to be out alone; in fact, it was quite common for Selene to be found wandering down wooded paths, glittering in the rare beams of moonlight that would shine through the branches. She liked the night, when all was cool, and quiet, and she didn't have to worry about anything at all. Not really. She could relax, and reflect, and think about who she was. Who she had been. And above all, who she wanted to be. All the mistakes she made in her life seemed to be made less, somehow, when only the moon was around to see. Nature itself wasn't judgmental. And it was a great listener. Her footsteps were nearly silent on the ground as she flitted in and out of the trees, heading for the beach she loved so well, seeking something that could not be defined so clearly. She was a very social mare at heart, and the fact that she had been so recently ill was suffocating. She was grateful that she could now wander so far from the teepee where her family circled like vultures, waiting for her to make a misstep so that they could mother her. Her goal now was to not go home until she'd spoken to someone other than the vultures. Maybe she would wander across Safi? Or Calamity... or her father? It had been too long since she'd seen any of them. Perhaps she could run across Virgo, her starshine friend? Or... someone new. Her ears perked up, and her step picked up a bit. So many options, really. She couldn't wait to see what the night would bring. She finally reached the beach and stood there for a few moments, enjoying the scent of the sea, and the sound of the waves on the sand.

He never knew what to expect down in the lowlands anymore. In the mountains, it was a very, very rare occurance for someone to trespass into his territory. Here, it was almost a nightly occurance that a fox or rabbit would attempt to take shelter under his wings, or a foal would stick their little nose into his sleeping quarters. Solitude was very hard to find in such a social place. He had no issue with conversation, as long as it was decent... And with his own kind.
It was hard enough to find either, and due to past events, it would be harder than usual to find a Kalona willing to even look at him without a condenscending sneer. So... Persephonix decided he could thrive off of little to no interaction with others besides his daughter. The idea however, was extremely unattractive. He was a talkative fool who enjoyed showing off, and with a daughter that was not interested in listening to him, he had a lot of pent-up energy.
This all translated into frustration, which would no doubt scare off potential company. 'Good. I don't need it.' He assured himself as he slowed his aimless walk. Ahead, the ocean looked like it ws supposed to, he guesses. Blue, refleecting the moon, and coming in and sliding off the shore traditionally. It was a rather calming sight, which was what the stallion needed greatly. Though the scent in the air was not pleasing, he inhaled deeply and sighed, shaking his head.
He would never come to the beach in the day; too warm. At least the night was cool, and the scene was much more welcoming.
But something was a little off. Maybe he was seeing things, but it looked like... A shadow? His eyes narrowed and rose hs head, squaring his shoulders and folding his wings. Were his eyes playing tricks on him? It was such a funny looking shadow... It definitely wasn't a tree.
A low growl escaped his throat, his upper lip snarling a little. If it was just indeed a trick of the eyes, whatever was standing there wouldn't react to his presence. Or somebody who wasn't threatened by him, but he ignored that.

It was a cool night, made even chillier with the salty ocean breeze. But the sky was clear, and she could see well enough from the dim light of the moon and stars. The sound of a low growl behind her made her freeze. If it weren't for the fact that her hair blew in the breeze, no muscle would have moved. As it were, the breeze picked up, and Selene turned, determined to see if the threat was near, or if it was a sound that had merely been carried on the breeze.
The moonlight would glint off of her silver horn and the decorations in her mane and tail. She couldn't really see anything beyond an area of 10 feet- she was no predator, and the light was dim. She was not worried- if it was a wolf, or other land-bound predator, she could take to the skies and flee. If it was a more formidable foe, she had the advantage of being able to shift her size and flee in a different manner entirely. So she waited, relaxed and comfortable, still enjoying the breeze for a little while longer. "Is someone there?"

The dark shadow spoke, confirming Persephonix's suspicion that that it was an actual creature as opposed to a shadow. hIs ears flattened aginst his head for a moment, annoyed that once again he could not find solitude wherever he went. Was this supposed to be his punishment for not living up to Kalona ideals? He forced himself not to sigh as he focused hi sgaze on the figure with the glinting horn. The shadow was female, he could tell that much from the voice. Usually he would have been compelled to strut and show off, but that night he was more cautious than anything.
He stepped out from the shelter of the trees, keeping his gaze locked on the mare that was more visible out from the shadows. He kept his face for the most part unamused and inquisitive, his eyes narrowed as he walked out a little furthur before stopping. He was still by the trees, as he wouldn't allow himself to fully leave. She wasn't exactly the ideal prey - her wings would give her flight (though he didn't know how such thin wings could carry a horse of large proportions), and she did have a horn (though he was quite sure she wouldn't use it against him). He wasn't exactly hungry, so... She was lucky.
"Apparently so," he replied frowning a little, "Though I don't know whether to find it pleasant or incredibly irritating that someone else has decided to walk the beach." He continued to say, looking out at the ocean for a moment before back at the blue mare. It had been a while since he had actually interacted with someone besides his daughter; he often avoided conversation with the other Soquili he came into in the lowlands, as they all seemed to act the same - stupid and silly.

How unusual. Selene could tell the moment that he stepped from the shadows that he was a kalona. It was in the way he held himself as much as the wings on his back, and horns on his head. His words caused her to give a small laugh, amused that he had thought the same thing as herself. "I agree, master hunter." The name was meant to let him know that she was aware of what he was so much as it was meant to be polite. "Pleasant, or an annoyance? I suppose the most honest answer would be a bit of both." At least on her part- she wasn't sure about him. She turned her attention to the waves, returning to her former pensive silence, watching them slowly wash away the dune next to her.

The name she used to address him with confused him at first. He didn't let it show on his face, but it at first made his pride swell a bit. But... Was she teaisng him? It didn't sound like it. There certainly didn't seem to be any sarcasm laced in her voice. Hmph. Well, she wasn't stupid it appeared, but he'd give her five more minutes or so to keep him convinced. There were just so many Soquili that backtalked an used sarcasm against his kind... Thinking they were so tough. Words are nothing compared to the actual actions taken.
Persephonix rose a brow at her response. Once again, no sarcasm... Taunting tones were a daily occurance for him with a young adult daughter. "Hn." He chuckled, the sound deep in his throat as his vocal chords vibrated. A small, crooked smile pulled at his lips as he watched her. It bothered his pride that she did not gaze upon him, but he wasn't dense enough to assume she was scared. She just... Wasn't interested? Woah. That was way more offensive.
"Tell me," he spoke clearly, turning his gaze towards the neverending ocean, "Since I'm assuming you have no reason to lie to me," he paused, inhaling the unpleasant scent of the ocean in, "Are you simply only interested in the ocean this very night? More so than an approaching predator?"

She tilted her head back toward him, raising an eyebrow. When she finally spoke, after hearing him all of the way out, her tone was blunt. "Believe it or not, I grew up with a predator. I give the benefit of a doubt first, if they seem peaceable enough, and you've given me no reason to think you would harm me on whim alone. Though it is true that I don't know you well, but if you were going to kill me I think you'd be attacking me, not looking for conversation. So is it so wrong to enjoy the view?"
Regardless of her words, however, Selene tilted herself to an angle where she could keep one eye on the ocean, enjoying the breeze blowing into her face, and the other eye on the stallion who was speaking to her. Even if she was not afraid of a kalona on sight, she did somehow think it may be a bit important to keep an eye on him now that he appeared to be looking for conversation. Kalona were tricksy creatures; Temperamental too, she'd learned. If she insulted him, even on accident, she's better be ready to take off. The blue mare remained relaxed however. Why get tense in preparation for something that may or may not happen?

So she had him convinced - she was no idiot. Most after a comment like his would turn and brace themselves for some sort of oncoming attack, or run off, even if he had no intention of being the ruthless killing machine he was supposed to be. Fortunatley for others he had some grounded in him. At least, that's what he blamed for his having some form of civility.
Persephonix found himself annoyed however at how relaxed she was. Was he really not that intimidating? He wanted to snarl, somehow get the mare on the edge... But he didn't find it in him. 'Exhaustion.' He thought bitterly. He wasn't hungry, just sorely tired from traveling from one forest to another, searching each cave for a certain rat. And then there was training his insolent daughter who was having that "teenage" identity crisis or what have you. All mistakes on his part however, and he was dealing with the consequences.
He slowly approached he shore, keeping a distance between himself and the smaller mare. This was her chance to flee, if she needed one. His nose wrinkled at how the stench of salt got stronger, but within moments he relaxed a little. Though unpleasant, it had an almost instant soothing effect. He kept his icey eyes on the water, though his ears flickered the mare's way, "Valid point." He grumbled, "Is that all you came here for? The view?" A valid question, he assumed. And well.. He wanted to know if the vulgar scent of the waves naturally had some sort of calming effect, or the scenery before them.

The small smile she allowed to cross her lips would be hard to see, even for a hunter like himself. It had been far, far too long since she had allowed herself to be approached, or even done the approaching. She was paying a certain amount of attention to him, to be sure. She was calm, not foolish. A sidelong glance from golden eyes took in the stranger as he approached the seashore, coming into greater view from the moonlight.
At his question, she let her amusement be heard. "Stranger, does anyone come to the beach just for the view, really?" If they did, well, she'd love to meet one! "There is more than just the view to be found in the solace of the ocean. Close your eyes for a moment, just listen." Even in the night, the sound of the breeze flowing through the trees, the sound of the waves beating at the ground beneath them... The brine stinging at sensitive nostrils... "It's all very relaxing, if taken in together. If you come only for the view you miss out on so much."
