Hi everyone! I was hoping to get a little advice from ya'll. My fiancee and I are planning a very unconventional wedding, and I was hoping to get some advice on how to ad a little bit of normalcy to it. Both he and I are very unconventional people, but both our families are conservative. I know that if everything is off-the-wall, it's going to shock them. I know we won't be invited to any more Christmas dinners after that. sweatdrop

Anyways, some unconventional elements are, but are not limited to:
- civil marriage, not religious (against the wishes of both our parents)
- the wedding is in October
- our vows have been written in LOLspeak (a.k.a. LOLcat pidgin)
- my wedding dress is black, red and white (pics here and here)
- my finacee will be wearing all black
- the best man is trans-gendered
- taking advice from danniqi, we're filling our iPod with our favourite music and renting speakers for the reception rather than hire a band or DJ
- the wedding cake is Nintendo-themed, with Mario and Peach cake toppers
- our first dance as a married couple will be on a DDR mchine

So yeah... Those are our plans in a nutshell. Any advice to lessen the shock to our families?

Your vows will be hillarious! rofl

"I can has huzbund plz?"

As for adding a more traditional element... what about the food? Like having a proper sit-down meal at one point, like most "traditional" weddings have?

Wow! That dress is uber cute. The thing about weddings... As long as it's about the commitment of two people, the rest doesn't matter. My fiancee and I were seriously considering a Star Wars themed wedding at one point in time. (Me as Leia, him as Han Solo, the groomsmen as Stormtroopers etc...) The only thing that held us back was budget. blaugh

Lessen the shock on the families, eh? I can't say that anything comes to mind immediately. But as long as they know that you two are taking this seriously (the marriage that is, not necessarily the wedding) and that this is just who y'all are.

And I MUST see pictures of all of this!!! It sounds absolutely fabulous! heart
