 >[Ok well thanks to SOZI for posting that meet & greet lyric interpretation contest thingy I got inspired to make this thread.....
So heres what its all about. Sometimes we listen to the music and start to tune out the true meanings and feelings behind it all. Sure we appreciate it and of course love it, but sometimes we forget to stop and really think about what these songs really mean, and what they really mean to us.
So what I am going to post some lyrics and I want all your KoRn kids to discuss them. Get in depth and really think about them. Tell us what you think these lyrics mean, interpret them, whats the message behind them. Tell us if they have any sort of personal meaning to you, connect to a life experiance youve had, helped you in some way or things like that.
Perhaps this will be a good way to reconnect with the music and maybe even connect with one another even more as we share experiances that these lyrics may be connected to.
Ok so here goes. In honor of the actual contest your first lyric is: "I can see, I can see, I'm going blind." -Blind]<

Firstly, lemme say... OOOO I LOVE THIS biggrin . Takes me back to my lit days.
*****************
"...I can see, I can see, I'm going Blind..."
I believe this line could denote a couple of things:
1) If one were to look at this line and this line alone; it can be interpreted as being Jonathan coming to an epiphany of sorts, one where he has begun to realise that instead of growing wiser - he is becoming more ignorant. This ignorance causing him to fail to see what lies ahead of him; it may also denote what he believes to be his weakness, one where he cannot recognise who or what will deceive or do him harm in this perilous life.
"If I don't find a way to see through the gray that clouds my mind. This time I look to see what's between the lines!"
2) Another can be (taking the whole song into context), that he seeks to protect himself so much within the confines of his own mind that he becomes numb and blinded to reality and what is really happening around him. He realizes this acknowledging that this action of recoiling into the protective barriers within his mind are destroying him, rendering him "blind" to the external world - and he wishes to be able to change this mentality.
3) This could also be about denial - in which he denies the harsh realities of life in favor of the "safe place" he has created for himself within his mind and he can see that this denial is rendering him blind and defenseless against the perils of the external world.
Many of Jonathan's songs are soliloquys in which he seems to be narrating from his point of view, tapping into inner struggles; and this song is no exception. Examining merely one line of a song is difficult as I've Jon almost always tells a story through his lyrics, and the stanzas are interconnected.
There's more I can probably think about... but DAMN I should really be doing my work xD

Every time i here this song(especially live), i always think how this song started to band how it sends a message to the music industry that "Are You Ready" for Korn. Since, i have a great and wild imagination, I always think of how rock music died and like 1000 years later, KoRn pretty much brought it back. Yes...Imagine Korn in the future, playing like Gods in front of billions of humans and aliens. ( rofl damn my imagination) Well thats why i like this song, Are You Ready!!!!!!!!!!
I keep asking what's your lie? It is disturbing, this isn't right. Days keep passing. One notch at a time. I don't feel right. Please God let me sleep tonight. Every day confronted. Sucker freinds, it's giving in. I just wanna know why? KoRn's Helmet in the Bush.
I heard that this song had something with a speed addiction?

lol, if I see all these suggestions suddenly appear on the contest page I'll know who to turn too rofl
You're right about how we sorta tune out to the meanings of the words being sang to us after a time, I find myself singing along to KoRn more often now rather than listeining and singing (does that make sense?)
I can't really remember what "I can see I can see I'm going blind" first meant to me, but now, recently, everytime I hear it it reminds me of the mess I was getting myself into with drugs. I swore when I was young that I would never even smoke, let alone do drugs, but as time passed I have began to fall into harder and harder stuff. I know I'm intelligent but as addiction began taking a hold I sort of didn't see that the drugs were controlling me rather than vice versa. So that's what the lines mean to me, the fact that suddenly I realised I was closing my eyes to the truth, to the obvious.
I doubt very much that that is what JD intended, but that's what the song means to me now, and it still helps me remind myself when I feel tempted...

I was in denial most of the time, I loved the place I could just retreat to everytime I shot up. I just liked how I felt, how I was numb to my problems, how for a few minutes I could just escape to some dream world that existed within my mind. I just failed to see what it was doing to me and to the people around me. Hell, one of my friends even got sick of trying to pick me up from the horrible places I've gotten in to, that she just had to back away from me (even though we're sorta cool now). Boy that was a dark-a** time O.o So I guess, like you... that's what Blind means to me personally.

I'll tell you which song scares there s**t out of me when it comes to drugs though, With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails. I turn to KoRn mainly for my problems with the social side of my life (Thoughtless, Alone I Break, Kiss, Trash, the list is endless!) but it is always (or usually) NIN that I look to for drugs and that need to escape. Do you guys listen to different bands depending on what message you want to hear, or do you search for all aspects of life in one single band? (KoRn for example wink )

(KoRn for example wink ) Well, even though for me Korn encompasses a lot of aspect of this twisted life of mine, I can relate to the music of other artists as well. Otep and Lamb of God are two major ones. Being a woman who used to be dependent on narcotics for release, is angry at the world and at times still loathes herself; I find myself relating to Otep both for encouragement and comfort. Lamb of God embodies my contempt for society, my alcoholism, apostasy and bitter confusion and disillusionment in mankind. I used to have others that I could relate to as well, which seem silly now. I turned to Marilyn Manson, and Limp Bizkit (yesh, shoot me xD) as figures to fuel my rebellion back in the day (although I still love Manson to this day). They encouraged me to be different, and to be proud of my individuality - like a "me against the world" thing, and they were there along with Korn to support me. But Korn was and still is the band that defines all the major events in my life - they seem to have a song for everything from substance abuse and rebellion to an emotional commentary on the deep dark places our mind can take us to - and nowadays, social commentaries on the current state of the world.

*BANG* limp bizkit... wink i couldn't have summed up what you said any better and yes, it seems people that are really into one band seem to like similar music (Manson for example).
I think what sets us apart from the mainstream is our dedication/need for guidance and support in the music we listen to, ie, we actually listen to what is being said. This is completely different (in my opinion) to mainstream pop. What is on the radios is just the same message being processed over and over again by the music industry, thus the people that are into pop tend to listen to a new song until a newer one comes along then just throw the old one away, but for us, we attach meanings to songs making them a part of us.
Alone I Break for example speaks to me of my intolerable lonliness at not being able to fit in or be happy where i am, while Wake Up is about my 'friends' mocking that hurts so bad and Counting On Me is about how I am always there to help people when they are down but nobody is ever there for me when i need help. I struggle to believe that people will attach as much meaning to, for example, Umbrella, You're beautiful or the Cheeky Song as the 3 korn songs i mentioned...

We've lived the lyrics and we like what we like for the art and not the fad. People like us appreciate the music, not the image and we relate to the artist in our own way, something mindless clones can't do. Like Randy Blythe said, "real artists say something" with their music, a message that likeminded individuals are able to respond to in various ways. Whereas "hacks like Britney Spears say nothing" [sic], their music is created for the purposes of selling records*. You can't get emotional depth from your standard Top 40 pop songs, or anything manufactured for that matter - that processed formulaic ******** of "body image + sexuality + catchy hook = money" s**t. *Note - yes, people that know me will know that yes... I do listen to Britney's new record, why? Because the catchy electronic pop is fun to listen and sing to on long drives with friends who aren't really into metal. I admit this without fear, as I try not to limit myself within the bounds of a few genres. Her new material is superficial harmless fun, hell, at least she's not pushing the "emo" bullshit xD.

The music Video for Y'All Wanna Single is enlightening on how music is produced, as is Marilyn Manson if you listen to some of what he says. That's why I get annoyed when bands like Linkin Park come alone with a song like what i've done then suddenly everybody says they're great cuz they're defending the morals of society. No they're ******** not! They're exploiting what's accepted as good in order to make profit. You want a defender of society's morals then go to the underground punk scene you dickhead! Ahem, rant over redface
Music = Life, long live the freaks! biggrin
