. . . . why write about such . . . . dull and dark things. I think that's what every likes to write about because it's so easy to express sorrow and sadness. Writing about things that are joyous is horribly hard because most people haven't even experienced joy. That's why so few write about it. You should give it a try and see how good it sounds. >.<

Yeah, writers block really sucks. And she's right, it is much easier to write about sadness and dark things. I've written some of my most thoughtful stuff when i was unhappy.
Try thinking about whats going on in your life right now. What is your over all condition? How are your relations with your family, friends? Is school/work going well? Do you have a lover/significant other? Is your life happy right now, sad, angry, confused? I've found that you have to analyze yourself, and your situation, then your mind naturally begins to form words for what you're feeling and thinking. Do all of that, and just write what you feel or think afterwards. It is poetry.

Oh no, lol. I didn't mean you supported it. I knew what you meant. I just meant that you had a good point, writing on sad things is easiest, some people would say too easy for a poet of great calibur. I disagree, since Edgar Allen Poe, contriversial as his brain might be, was a very good poet and writer.

Yes he was a great poet but as you know he wrote about things that were deep but at the same time depressing. His poems may have been strong but they were of the most common genera out there. Death and lose.

I think what song is getting at is that sad and depressing poems are a bit Cliche' (Sp?), over done if you will. But honestly I don't write for others I write for myself and those are the poems that I Need to get out... so sad and depressing is a Large portion of my works.

Try writing about simple things like a moment in time or the feeling of the sun on your skin.

hmmm 2 diffrent opinions on what u should right here some things u could put in both
happy: peace, love, the sun, the wind, the water, calming, light, friends, something happy like that etc.
sad and/or depressing: dread, death, doom, grim reaper, darkness, despair, gloom, murder, dark alley, something around those areas and whatnot etc.

One of the topics for a poetry class I took was to write an "I am From" poem. NOt just about your physical location, but about your background and stuff. It's pretty cool sometimes.
Or write a poem about sitting by a lake. Or the first time you danced with someone. Or how annoying jackhammering is. (Sorry about that one. They're doing road construction next to my place and have been jackhammering for hours now. >_<)
