I've been watching Enchanted like it's nobody's business lately. I admit it, I am a Disney lover and I always dreamed that I would grow up to be just like Giselle, lol.

I hope I'm not the only one to catch it, but it's one of my favorite parts. When Robert is walking Giselle into his office building she stops and stares at a statue of a naked, plus-sized woman. I wish I could find a picture of it, I'm sure it's a real statue in New York, I just have no clue where or what to call it for our dear friend, Google.

As he's dragging her away she says "She's beautiful!"

I was actually surprised that Disney included this in here. While Disney has always had thinner princesses and any woman in movies that was plus-sized tends to be either a minor character, a teapot, an evil queen or just some elderly character they've never really stood out to me as far as being size positive, so I was excited to see they included this in here. Especially when they're in the cutting room, I imagine it would have been so easy to argue cutting those two seconds out.

So, I was curious if anybody else has seen this and if it excites anybody else that maybe size-positive messages are going to start popping up in movies occasionally.

Also, I was wondering if anybody could name any more movies people might want to see that include some sort of size-positive message. The only truly obvious one I can think of is Shallow Hal, which is still somewhat insulting to fat people.

I'll have to watch that.
I also think that Shallow Hal is insulting to fat people. Most of the movie shows people making fun or laughing at bigger or "unattractive" people. In the end the point of the movie really was just that personality and a good heart is what matters, not looks. But it never really puts any size-positive messages out there.
All I can think of is Phat Girlz. I liked it. I also work with men from Africa(good looking, very fit young men!) and what the movie shows is actually completely true.(I didn't doubt it but I thought that it could have been an exaggeration) Though the men I work with are from Senegal, not Nigeria.

Is Giselle that freakishly tall model? x3

I really liked the movie Shallow Hal, x3. It was one of Jack Blacks only good movies...

My Positive-Message Movies about Size

- Real Women Have Curves, i LOVE this movie, not only because i love Spanish and it has a lot of little bits, but its just an over all love yourself movie.

..thats the only one i can think of at the moment...O_o

But in other medias, they have a chubby Barbie!
Amazing, b***h was too skinny before, her measurements wouldn't have been able to hold her up before x3

I think they had to make Shallow Hal that ridiculous to make it a comedy, but the message throughout was that the personality matters more than the outside. Not to mention how ridiculous it is to only go for looks when the girl is a total b***h, etc. But at the same time, at the end when Hal sees her he says how beautiful she is.

I've heard the african thing before, I know one tribe the women pack on clothes to make themselves look bigger so that men will find them attractive. I've also talked to a girl about my boyfriends (past and present) and she stated "Wow, I've never met a white guy who liked fat girls, that's why I've always dated black guys." Which is true, I've mostly been hit on by black guys, lol. I wish white culture was more accepting of larger people.

Phat Girlz is one of those movies I enjoy because it's size positive, but I have to admit it's a bit dumb. My co-workers thought I was an idiot for watching it, lol.

lol, not the same Giselle XP

I've never heard of Real Women Have Curves, hrm.

sail away with me, honey...

I found a few cute Youtube Videos.

Also, I liked Shallow Hal. I saw it of less as it being all about dissing fat people; I think most of the emphasis was supposed to be on JB deflecting the insults. True, it's very easy to see it as insulting, and maybe that's just the fault of the director or whoever wrote the script, but I give it credit for having a good message at heart.

i put my heart in your hands.

I am not a fan of Shallow Hal. I just thought it was really mean towards fat people. Sure it had a light hearted ending, but still it was making fun and people would laugh out loud at things when really it's not funny. I thought it was very disrespect.

Oh course the movie Hairspray is very postive for plus size girls. Though I think the Broadway musical was more postive then the movie.

I love that movie so much! The part you're talking about makes me smile. =)

Unfortunately I can't think of any other size-positive messages I've seen recently. =/
