Safi'mmoja, great hunter extraordinaire (in his mind at least) stalked his prey through the grasses, tail wagging excitedly. The shiny carapace of the non-dung-variety-beetle made it easy to track, even for the hyper wild dog. Once he was within paw-range, the bright wild dog bat at the beetle, seeking to crush it...only to have it fly into his face. Startled, he yelped and backpedaled several steps as the beetle flew off to safety. Safi whined, watching what he had hoped would be his snack fly off into the mid-afternoon sun.
And then his attention was caught by another shiny carapace. And the hunt was on once more, Safi'mmoja doing his best 'stalk of doom'...which sounded more like a pup stepping on every stray twig or grass bundle they could. Hunter extraordinaire, the wild dog was not.

 Abishalom was sleeping on a tall rock pedestal not far from his home. Bathed in the warm glow of the gentle sun from above, and the soft heat from the rough rock beneath his soft lavendar colored fur. His long, fanned tail brushed the ground, wagging half-heartedly at some half imagined dream. He rolled on his back, exposing his belly to the sky and twisted, paws reached upward.
A loud crashing in the brush below woke him. Both ears shot up attentively listening.
What is it? A predator? A lion?
Suddenly, acutely aware of how alone he was, Abish pressed himself against the rock, maintaining a low profile, and waited.

Safi was completely oblivious to the fact he wasn't alone, instead trying to munch on the bug he'd been 'stalking'. Of course...he just couldn't quite get it. An attempt at catching it with a paw failed, trying the direct-munch approach gave it too much time to skitter away, and it was too small to jump on.
After a few more tries, he stopped trying. The wild dog sat down, trying to figure out a solution as the bug skittered away to Mkodi-knows-where. Maybe...something bigger? So there was more to try and hit, and less chance of missing?
There was always the possibility something bigger would fight back. He grimaced, remembering the bird that had decided to peck at his head a week ago.

Abish was very good at staying still. He could stay still for hours and hours if he had to be, but today his light blue ears twitched at every sound. What was that moving about in the long grass?He had to know! The very tip of his tail wagged slightly in anticipation as he crawled on his belly to the edge of his rock and peered down into the grass. For a moment, the young pup's imagination filled the grass below with lions and cheetahs and all manner of creature, until his cornflower blue gaze fell upon another pup just like himself sitting among the foliage.
" Hello.", Abish called down softly.

At the soft voice, Safi jumped, startled. He looked up at the source of the voice with wide pink eyes. He half expected something that wanted to eat him up there. But there wasn't. There was just another pup. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, then jumped for joy, tail wagging.
"Hullo hullo! Wha'cha doin' up there?" How did a pup get all the way up there? Safi was unsure, but he would certainly try later. If he could remember to that is...But right now, there was a potential playmate!

Abishalom's blue fan tail wagged wildly in response to the other pup's enthusiasm. It had been a boring day, all his siblings were busy with naps or grooming or exploring. Momma was napping and Father was hunting. What was a pup to do except strike out to find his own fun? And it looked like he'd found it.
The sky colored pup stood with his front toes on the edge of the rock crouched and coiled his legs preparing to spring, looked down....and changed his mind. Instead he turned and picked his way down the pile until he stood nose to nose with his new friend. Then, suddenly he bounced forward to tap the pup's shoulder with his muzzle.
"It!" he shouted as he sprinted away.

Safi stared after the other pup, caught off guard. Well...he normally was off guard. But that was beside the point! He gave a playful bark and ran after the other, forgetting completely about hunting. Fun was more important! And tag was always fun!
He pushed himself, working to take advantage of what little leg length he had on the other. When he got close enough, he bumped the other with his muzzle and took off running the other way, yelling "IT!" as he ran.

Abish had thought he had gotten a pretty good lead on the other pup, when suddenly he was bumped from behind by a cold wet nose. He yapped in surprise and excitement, almost drowning out the other pup's call. He flipped himself about, nearly landing on his face as he stumbled over paws too big for his young pup body. He righted himself quickly, albeit clumsily and took off after his playmate.
He tore his way through the foliage, long branches whipping at him as he ran. His heart pounded wildly in his chest. It was a little hard to keep sight of the golden boy pup among the golden strands of aging long grass, but he was doing his very best to keep up.
Abishalom was closing in...

Safi could hear Abishalom behind him, growing ever closer as they ran. The juvenile ran around rocks and some bones and grass...lots of grass. The golden wild dog was having so much fun just playing with another that he not only failed to judge how close Abish was getting...but that there was a rather large rock at his feet.
So just as the other bumped him, his feet collided with the rock, sending him sprawling on his back. It hurt...a little...But...The first thing that really registered in his mind was.
"Guess I'm It, now."

Abishalom reached his long muzzle out to bump the other pup just before he caught sight of the rock ahead and couldn't stop himself, wincing as he watched Safa trip and fall. He dug his paws into the ground as quickly as he could, putting the breaks on so to speak, narrowly avoiding going head over paws himself. He rocked back on his heels landing on his butt with a thump, panting heavily.
"Are.... you... ok?", he asked in between pants, cornflower blue eyes filled with concern, tail tapping the ground anxiously.

Safi nodded slowly, a silly grin on his face.
"I've had worse falls! And this is nothin' compared to gettin' almost-munched by a hyena!" He rolled over onto his belly, then stood and shook himself off. "You're REALLY fast!" It was then that Safi noticed the sky. "Uh-oh...I gotta go find a place to sleep...It's gettin' late...You should go too, before you get almost-munched by somethin'." He nosed the other, grinning again. "Sleep good!" And with that Safi took off to find a quick sleeping-hiding place.
