So this past weekend I had the worst performance EVER. Even my first show on rifle wasn't that bad, and for this matter, my first guard performance EVER wasn't even this bad! Out of eight tosses, I messed up five of them! One was on flag, and I didn't even toss it! So now I want to know---What's the worst performance you ever had?

A few weeks ago at our second to last drum competition (which we were holding at our own school!), in prelims I forgot my good bell mallets and a whole bunch of things went wrong and it was terrible. But that's the worst one I've ever had, most have been fine.

I can't say I've have a performance to end all performances, poorly speaking. But I do seem to always do terrible during at home shows. I have never had a good home show.

My first year: first year anything isn't good; it was pouring so we had to perform inside, ugh

Second year: I re-injured my broken blood vessel right under my right pointer finger literally two minutes before going on; it was the first time my Guard ever saw me hurt or crying. My instructor asked me what I needed, and all I could choke out was 'I wanted to perform'. So he told me to put pressure on it ('yeah, it'll hurt') and I performed. Screwed up my rifle work in three places, but other than that....

Last year: My legs hurt, not the muscle, but a deep pain in the bones, all day, steadily getting worse until I was near tears escorting a class IV band out (we were class VI). By the time we went on, I was doing my damnedest to hide a limp; when we came off, I was tearing and visible limping.

hmm...well nothing too bad for me but once at a competition i was already mad because of a fight i had with someone in my group, then we had trouble with one of my section members (i'm in Pit) not helping to set things up; he always likes to tell others what to do; and to top it all off when me and one of the other pit members swapped keyboards during the performance, the one mallet fell down and rolled under the keyboard. i had to bend down and pick it up because there wasn't another mallet, and the keyboard rolled forward. crying it wasn't far but it was still quite noticeable. i was horrified to put it plainly.

Hmm.... My worst would have to be my first year at the rifle. (going a tid bit off subject here) I was told by my BD that I was going to lead the performance because Rose had hurt her leg on her way there and I was like what the freak?! We were just getting ready to go out to the football field when our biggest rival team came up and started badmouthing us. I was still mad when we got out there and i screwed up and dropped the rifle too many times to remember. And that's it, I dropped a rifle in front of almost 500 people.

Well lets see...

We had one fall marching competition where The pit ended 3 measures before the rest of the band....and so they were marching to silence since it's a pit feature at the end of the show where no one else plays. Of course I have the last note of the show, a big strong F on the chimes, but no. I accidentally hit a Db.... out of time ...after the band finished.

Wow, I've had my share of bad expierence but the worst was the other day at a drumline comp. So we have a three movement show and we made it through the first one, dazzled with the second movement and the then the third was biffed. Our keyboardist is supposed to count off and so he did, but before everyone was set and so everyone started a different time. The snares started and the drumline kinda followed them and then the pitt started. It took us 30 years to merge it all together and when we dud we rushed to the point where 8th notes were 16th notes. I tried not to show the expression of pure embarrassament and so i played through it confidently. Lucky me like 4 people came up to me and told me,"Dude, ur an amazing mallet player.." Ironic?!

also, it was prelims
and we lost by a point...although a school that had 3 less points made it because of the rounds system...stupid rounds system

My worst marching performance would probably be State Finals for Indoor my senior year. I had a pretty important solo (bass marimba) that if I didn't hit correctly would through everyone else off. It was somewhat Fugue-like. Anywho. I had a mallet swap right before that spot which I had never had trouble with before, but for some reason I went to reach for the mallets and only managed to grab one of them. I ran out of time and had to play the solo with one mallet which sucked cause it was a 16th not pattern lol. I also broke a mallet on the cymbal rolls at the end of the show. It was pretty bad. but we got third (we had never placed before).

For Concert band, I had a solo for our christmas concert. We were playing "Christmas in the Rounds" if you've heard of it. But it was the last percussion feature "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." I was the only one with the melody and I got completely lost in the first half of it so I kinda half assed what I could. I nearly cried after we got off stage.

As for teaching (I tech Front ensemble for a year), I actually forgot to make sure we had our keyboard cable before we went onto the floor. Our show was basically nothing but keyboard and we couldn't do the show without it. Luckily, one of the judges had a spare and we were in nocive class so we weren't being scored. It was terrible though and I was fired because of it, which I totally deserved, although I hear the band director nearly fired the battery tech for firing me without consulting him first lol.

Well, let's see here. My worst performance ever...that would be...Oh right, my second winterguard season. We were at the competition right before championships, and our instructor had recently been freaking out so we were all feeling the pressure. Plus, we had recently been bumped into the next class level (this was our second performance in said new level). The whole thing started out okay and then I completely missed the line I was supposed to be in for the rifle work, then we moved to the very front of the floor and did a triple...well, mine was more like a five...not to mention I caught the darn thing wrong. (luckily I was in the middle so it didn't look too bad) That wasn't even the worst part though. Near the end of the show the sabers (of which I am a part) have to split up and I have to walk backwards at incredible speeds while doing work and a dance kick. Well, my feet slipped right out from under me and I very nearly stabbed myself with the saber and because I didn't get to my spot, my partners (we were doing trio work) couldn't do their work either so we had three people doing nothing, in the back, which is where most people look when watching a guard show so they can get the whole picture. It was horrible, we got last place.

(On a better note, we got fourth out of eleven at champs.)
