Expect spoilers

What do you think was the biggest shock/unexpected twist in the Dresden files?

For the life of me, I can't remember the one I thought right now so I will post later. I know that Thomas being his brother was a big one but not the biggest for me.

I'd have to say it was when Lash took the psychic bullet for Harry. I really didn't see that coming.

Oh yeah, and then there was when Harry meets the Elder Gruff. Priceless!

Cowl... I figured he would be a one shot bad guy neutral . That and any book where Ramirez survives. He just has that to likable going to die side kick feel about him. I keep hoping he will pull through but each time I get a little more worried.

There was another shocker I just remembered: Ramirez being a virgin. That was hilarious!

That shocked me too but as far as the plot goes, that really didn't change much.

Dang it, I still can't remember the one I had thought of.

(You'll have to highlight the spoilers.)

Biggest shocker before book 10 was
Thomas being Harry's half brother. I didn't see that one coming, at all.

Biggest shock in Small Favor?
Michael getting shot. I mean, okay, I saw it coming, but I didn't want to believe it was going to happen.

I think he was funniest when he was about to be attacked by vamps and started moaning about how he was going to die a virgin.

Honestly, though, there are a lot of little shockers. Learning that Harry and Thomas are half-brothers was a big surprise. But for me, the biggest surprise was when Michael was ripped to pieces by gunfire. I breathed a real sigh of relief when he survived, but in what condition? I guess we'll just have to wait until the next book is published.

Charity having once been a spellslinger. It makes things fall so wonderfully into place and all, but I didn't see it coming. Thomas being his half brother was another.

Michael being all shot to hell was a bit jarring, but then it made perfect sense. He get's to retire from being one of the Knight's without any guilt. Or at least too much of it. I mean, he is Catholic, guilt issues are a part of the package deal. mrgreen

Hmmm... probably Michael being shot full of holes. He just seems so strong and steadfast, the rock around which the waters of life eddy and swirl.

Wow I forgot about this thread but I think the first one quoted is the one I was trying to remember.

Micheal getting shot didn't shock me all that much if for no other reason than because I had a sense Harry would end up with another sword. Butcher needs to go into depth about how harry and micheal knew each other and some of their early adventures espically since micheal's only roll in the future books will be as a source of guilt for harry.

I had a feeling Butcher would do SOMETHING devious to Michael in that book, because that's just what authors like to DO.

But it still hit me like a sucker punch to the gut. The bit about Charity was a mild surprise though.

I ended up reading the books out of order (because I'm bass ackwards like that and I couldn't wait for them to arrive in the mail) so there weren't too many honest surprises.

But the one that comes to mind, aside from Michael, was when they touched on Harry and Murph having a relationship. I was expecting Butcher to draw that out much longer before he did SOMETHING with it.

That and the ending with Luccio. That side blinded me.
