I am sure you all have heard of these two languages Sindarin and Quenya no? they are spoken by the Elf people in Tolkiens Lord of the Rings series. the movies are full of narrations in Elf tongue and even two of the main characters often have dialog together in Sindarin.
if ye would like me too I can go find some phrases and sources for you.

absinthemourning I think that could be pretty interesting. How will you be finding said phrases? go to google.com and just type in Sindarin, or Quenya and do a bit of searching that way, it works pretty good, as for Black Speech that can get a little tricky

I did some research on Black Speech and you were right...pretty tricky. All I managed to find was a translation of the ring inscription and a page with 'unconfirmed' text that looks like someone just threw together using the basic sounds of the ring inscription. Kinda sad, but even more so since there isnt a whole lot of information going around. Quenya and Sindarin on the other hand, wow, it is pretty intense stuff.

I did at one time find a page with uncommon black speech phrases but I cant seem to find it again...... though its obvious considering that Tolkien himself hated the language lol he considered it to be so disgusting and evil that he would not even speak it. in a interview one time he said a fan gave him a goblet with the inscription in black speech and he hated it so much he used it as a Ash tray lol.

Why won't she allow you to get it? =/ (It's the one on all fourteen of his languages, right? That's the one I have! =D But honestly, I'd like one on purely Sindarin or Quenya. Maybe Dwarvish too... I dunno. All of his stuff is cool. ^_^)

Helge K. Fauskanger wrote a Quenya beginners' course which he published online on his Ardalambion page. I've tried to go through it a couple of times, but I don't have the motivation to memorise the vocabulary and learn it properly. Unfortunately, no such course exists for Sindarin, which is basically impenetrable to anyone without advanced knowledge of linguistics. Also Sindarin lacks any attested "to be" verb, although the linguistic consultant for the LotR movies invented one himself.

(reviving the topic...)
I used to amuse some of my (nerdy) friends with my knowledge of Quenya; I don't practice it for 1 and a half years now, so I'm nowhere as good as I was. sweatdrop

Unfortunately, no such course exists for Sindarin, which is basically impenetrable to anyone without advanced knowledge of linguistics. Also Sindarin lacks any attested "to be" verb, although the linguistic consultant for the LotR movies invented one himself. I'm not even going to touch Sindarin until I build up my linguistic knowledge base. I downloaded some Quenya courses though and am planning to get started on them as soon as I know I'll be able to have the proper time for them. There are quite a few resources on Quenya availible online, you just have to put the time in to find them. I'll post some links here soon for anyone who wants them. Homurakitsune I have a book on Tolkien's languages. =) Do you know the title? I must have that. eek How is it? --- I just finished reading Children of Húrin, now I'm on to The Unfinished Tales. I've finished the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion. I have a section on my bookshelf dedicated to everything concerning Tolkien and Arda. There's an empty space right now though, I let my mom's friend borrow the Silmarillion and she's had it for months now....but I'm going to let her keep it for as long as it takes for her to finish it. (This woman offered to get me an internship at CBS studios....gotta be nice to her.) sweatdrop
