Tom, taken aback, almost yelped. If it hadn't been for the fact that he was ready for her to jump up, he probably would have.
He soon regained his balance, and begain running with Tonks at a steady even pace toward the forest. It did not even occur to him that it was broad daylight and anybody anybody could be watching them sprint toward the FORBIDDEN forest.
Oh well, what's life without a little excitement?

Tonks laughed, knowing she had taken Tom by surprise. She almost wanted to be caught by teachers, it seemed. It was exciting, getting into trouble. It got her heart pounding in her ears and the center of her ribs until she thought her chest would explode. She ran farther ahead of Tom, now just being silly and racing him. "Hurry up slowpoke!"

Tom wrinkled his nose and put on a final burst of speed in a mad sprint. "Last one there's a rotten flobberworm!"
Chuckling, he realized that they were almost there.

Tonks tried in vain to speed up putting on a face of great distaste. "I hate flobberwor--ahhh!" Of course. It had to happen sooner or later. A root protruding from the springy ground caught on her shoelace and brought her crashing and rolling to earth. Though she was laughing, signing that either she was completely unhurt, or so severely hurt that she was laughing to avoid crying. In this case it was a mix of both.

Tom skidded to a halt, looking at the laughing Tonks on the ground. He spied a large, now fully upturned root, but was unsure of whether this was just a ploy to get to the tree line first. "If you're faking me out, this kind of trick is worthy enough to put you into Slytherin house..." Tom said, extending his hand to help her up. He was eyeing her feet warily, ready to take off at any sign of suspicious movement.

Tonks allowed herself to be pulled to her feet, trying not to laugh. As if to prove her point, she held up both hands defensively once standing. "You see? I'm not trying anything..." She trailed off thoughtfully. Then, out of nowhere, she flung out one of her raised hands while he was looking at her feet and smacked him upside the head. "Though now that you mentioned it I am!" she squealed as she started running to the treeline again.

Tom blinked at the impact and then cursed. Raising his wand, he muttered the trip jink and took off running toward the fallen (again) girl.

Tonks cried out in surprise as she once again went tumbling down to the earth. Upon impact, because of her gained momentum, she rolled several times and entered the Forest just after Tom did and landed on a jabby rock. "Alright, you win," she groaned, slightly out of breath after the fall. She lay on her back and stared up at the canopy of trees, one hand resting on her stomach.
I know, I know, nothing to worry about...

Tom, concealing a triumphant smile, picked up a pincone and began nervously peeling of its appendages. He looked over at Tonks, still on the ground, and pretended that he was going to walk over her. He changed his footing at the last second, missing her head by about two inches.
He jumped over and said with a mischevious grin, "So... now what?"

Tonks pushed herself upright and looked around in response to Tom's question. "Well..." she hadn't really planned anything. She thought a Professor would have seen and made them go back to the castle. "...we explore, I guess."

I see, Tom said, stroking his chin.
He looked around; he had never been in the forest before. It was dark: even though they had only retreated inside the forest a couple inches, the trees were already close enough together to block out the sun.
He saw a short tree nearby and decided to scale it. Just for fun. He found a foothold and hoisted himself up.

Tonks looked warily up at Tom from where she had finally reached a standing position. "Whatareyoudoing?" she asked, her words stringing together lazily. She put her hands on her hips and leaned backward slightly to see him better.

"Climbingthistree,"Tom said, mimicking Tonks's tone.
He grabbed a branch above, but it broke, resulting in Tom landing on his arse several feet down from where he had been previous. Slightly winded, he stood back up and wiped stray twigs from his maroon top and hair.

Tonks, seeing Tom fall, yelped in alarm and ran over. "Tom are you okay?!" she asked bending over and tilting her head so she was looking into his face nearly upside-down.
