Alyna meandered through the woods, traveling on her journey to see the world. She sighed softly to herself, feeling suddenly alone, as her wolf familiar was off hunting for the time being. Truth be told, she loved traveling, as it fulfilled her lust for new faces, and new places. But, at times, her heart broke with homesickness, and she longed for a familiar face. It was at times like this when she missed the carefree days of her childhood. Although Lyka wouldn't agree, Alyna felt as if she had matured since then, and that her days of "exploring" were at an end. She didn't consider her journey to be quite the same as evading her family for a day of exploring the area around her home. The traveling she was doing now was far more strenuous, and while enjoyable at times, filled with the hardship of making her own way in the world.

Haya was cheerfully embarked on what he called "patrolling." Patrolling consisted of him walking around the places that he liked to hang out and seeing if there was anyone interesting around. The official reason he gave was that he was on the look out for anything dangerous, but in reality it was to find himself some company.

Maybe Vis would be around. Vis was always good for some fun. His mom dropped by from time to time so she could be around... maybe this time with one of her new kids. Haya was chagrined to remember that he still had yet to meet his half siblings. Somehow he always seemed busy with his own things, though he knew that couldn't be the case all the time. He walked onwards, almost at the stream that was on of his favorite watering spots.

Alyna was walking along the trail she found, when she suddenly came upon a stream. "Who knew this was here?" she wondered aloud, walking up to the water's edge. There were hoofmarks all around the stream, so she knew that the stream was visited frequently. Perhaps she shouldn't stay long, in case whoever liked this stream didn't like visitors.

Haya heard a voice and couldn't help but answer. "I knew it was he-Hey!" His sentence fragmented mid-word as he emerged from the underbrush and saw who the voice had belonged to. He recognized those spots! He pranced out of his cover, grinning at his fortune.

"Hey! It's Miss Tasty-spots-filly!" He gave Alyna a small leer and licked his lips. "I've been rethinking my policy on eating other soquili lately, you know. You look like you've grown up to be a pretty tasty looking one." The amused glint in his eye took any threat away from the words and the tip of his tail was already wagging happily. She had been a scrawny little thing as a filly but she had sure shaped up well!

Alyna's shock turned to happiness as she saw who it was emerging from the bushes. "Haya!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with surprise, "I didn't think I'd ever see you again!" Giving him a mischievous grin, she said, "Is that so? Well, I hate to inform you that I'm a bit more difficult to catch these days."

She walked over to him, looked him over, and said, "You know, I remember you being bigger." Alyna laughed, tossing her rainbow-colored mane out of her eyes. She couldn't believe that Haya was here. After all, she hadn't seen him in so long! Alyna still remembered the promise he made her, although she was old enough know to figure out that the scars were probably made by another Soquili. Alyna understood why he didn't tell her the truth behind his scars when she was a filly, although she still firmly believed that she would have been able to handle it.

"Smaller? You calling me small?" He puffed up and raised his head high. He was hardly small. The kalona blood had seen to that. It was slightly awkward to look down on her and maintain the posture but he kept stubbornly to it, at least for now.

"Well I remember you being.. well... smaller too." He relaxed his posture somewhat and tilted his head at the filly-turned-mare. "So... are you enjoying being grown up now? I remember when I was first on my own." He grinned in remembering those exciting times. "Almost got eaten by a bear once when I sheltered in his cave during the rain. You have to watch out for those bears." He chuckled, remembering their conversation from the last time they had met. Bears indeed!

Alyna laughed when he puffed himself up. "I was considerably smaller back then." She thought about how she had barely stood up to his shoulders when she was a filly. Although he still was quite a bit taller than her, she didn't have to crane her neck to look up at him now.

"I wouldn't say I was enjoying it, not exactly. See, I'm off on my own now, able to go pretty much anywhere, but it's not been easy." Alyna admitted. "Lyka keeps me safe from "bears", she sniffs them out for me, and keeps me away from them. Oh, but you never met Lyka, did you?" Lyka had kept Alyna away from hunting Kalonas, the occasional psychotic Soquili, and bad drinking water, probably saving Alyna's life on more than one occasion.

Suddenly serious, Alyna added, "And we both know that you weren't attacked by a bear."

"Well I did get attacked by a bear once... just... probably not the time you're talking about." The smile on Hayagriva's face faded into something softer and more serious. He didn't tend to tell this story if he didn't have to or to people he didn't trust but he rarely got such direct interest in it. She might learn something from it too. Haya knew he had. He had learned a lot of things in that night and was lucky to have come away with as few scars as he did.

"All right," he started slowly, considering how to best tell the true story. "You seem to have figured it out already... it was a kalona, not a bear." Even after so much time had passed it stung to say those words. That pain had lasted even when the wounds had closed into scars.

Alyna smiled at him sadly. "I kind of figured it was either a Kalona or a Skinwalker. It must have been awful..." She sighed softly, wondering why such things happened to such nice Soquili. Haya had been good to her, he didn't deserve something like that happening to him. "I'm glad you weren't hurt too badly...I consider you something like a friend, even though we only met once before." Alyna's smile wavered a bit, and became something akin to a grin. "And besides, if I'd never met you, I'd never be able to say that I was almost eaten by a fellow Soquili. It was quite interesting explaining that one to my mother!"

Alyna didn't want to talk more about the attack, just in case Haya was still sensitive about it. Alyna knew that it wasn't just about the physical damage. Attacks like that left emotional scars as well. Her mother had been proof enough of that. November had been abandoned as a foal, and had never quite gotten over it. She was still sensiitve about that subject, and was so terrified of being a poor mother that she had all but smothered her children with her overprotectiveness. So, Alyna knew the damage of emotional scars. She only hoped that Haya would fare better than her mother.

"Heh. If your mom was anything like mine then she must have flipped out about that, right?" Haya forced a laugh and tried to convince himself he meant it. He had only ever told a few soquili about the kalona attack and it didn't get any easier the more he told it. There were so many things he regretted about that night. The kalona was not the only one who had acted with vicious intent.

That was a thought that could easily have drawn him off but Haya snapped back to the situation at hand. Alyna. Cute foal grown up. He was talking to her. Right! "So... uh..." He fumbled awkwardly for a conversation topic but failed to think of anything that wasn't kalonas or bears. "Er...." He trailed off and looked to the mare for assistance. Maybe she'd be able to think of something better.

Alyna giggled as she replied. "Oh, yes, she was rather...upset. She didn't let me out of her sight for the next month. She was convinced that I would just get myself injured, or stuck somewhere, or eaten. She thought that you were serious, after all."

Though very curious about the details of the attack, she knew better than to ask him about it. If she was still a foal, she wouldn't have been so reserved. But time had changed her. Weathered her beyond her years. "So...how are things at home? Last time we spoke, you had a few new baskets!" Alyna smiled warmly, as she had begun to feel surprisingly maternal lately. Perhaps it was time to stop traveling, settle down, and raise a family. But she would never find everyone she wanted to see if she stopped now.

There was a topic Haya liked better! He smiled more easily now, remembering his three little bundles of... well, maybe not always energy but always something. "Yeah, I did have baskets last time we met, didn't I? Now they've gotten out of them and are running around everywhere. There are three so something always is going on even though another mare takes care of one of them."

He had been uncertain about letting a mare he didn't know terribly well take care of one of his children but Mapiya had seemed a very capable caretaker so far. Ayanna probably wasn't suffering from less work, either. "Two of them have wings and I have no idea how to teach them to fly or anything..." He smiled sheepishly. "When I tried to give one of my daughters advice she almost broke a leg. I've tried not to say anything since then."

Alyna giggled. "I bet they are tough to handle sometimes...Mama said we were little tyrants. Can you imagine that? Me, a little tyrant? Well...I was a bit devilish at times, I suppose." She grinned mischievously, remembering all her escapades and adventures as a foal. She had gotten in trouble almost nonstop, but she was cute, and so her mom had always forgiven her...eventually.

Thinking about his problem, she suddenly remembered something. "I couldn't help you with that...but why not find your half brother or sister? They both have wings, don't they? Either one of them could help teach your two with wings." Alyna wondered if Haya knew that she had met two of his family members. Mel would have told him, but she didn't know if Haya had met Mel yet or not. Well, she would tell Haya if he didn't know. She decided it wasn't that big of a deal.

Haya blinked, reconsidered, then blinked again. "Wait... you've met my half-sibs? When did that happen? And why?" He had seen them once when they were very small but couldn't say he'd really gotten to know them. They had probably been too young to even remember it had happened. He supposed it made some sense that Alyna might have met more of the family since they all lived in the same general area but he still couldn't get over the coincidence.

He turned an eye on Alyna, smiling with disbelief. "I bet you'll randomly meet my foals out here sometime too with the way you're going!"

"Well, I met Karma one day when I was a foal. I was out exploring the forest, and I just happened to bump into him. That's the day that I was first told that Skinwalkers and Kalonas weren't very friendly, and the day I started becoming afraid of them. I'm not very afraid anymore, but I still don't want to meet one of either of them, unless I'm sure they're friendly. I really liked Karma, he was very quiet, but I think that was because he's very thoughtful, and likes to think about things thoroughly before he speaks." Alyna smiled, thinking of how Karma, in a roundabout way, had encouraged her to at least try to explore the world, and how she had thought that it would be impossible without wings.

"I met you a few weeks after I met Karma, and then it was months and months before I met Mel. Mel seemed to think it odd that I considered Karma my friend, I wonder why? Anyway, he made a big deal about me knowing both you and Karma...and I really don't see how it is." Alyna frowned, trying to puzzle out why Mel, and now Haya, seemed to find this so interesting. "I'm actually out here looking for Karma. I always meant to find him again, especially now that I've met Mel. He said that Karma was very different from how I remembered him...and I want to see for myself if he is."

"I very well might, especially if I come this way again on my way home." Alyna said with a laugh.
