I am writing a story that has to do with a girl getting an abortion and then kicked out of her parent's house. I haven't done much editing and the format may be a little screwy because I did it first in note pad. I am going to continue it of course but I wanted to know what you all thought of the first beginning portion.

This isn't based on a real story though the charaters are real people, people in my life but the names have been changed.

Quote:
Driving in the rain at midnight looking for a place to crash isn't something she ever thought she would need to do. She always thought that her parents would love and accept her no matter what and that when she did strike it out on her own, she would be responsible enough to pay all of the bills. But alas, she was wrong, as she had been when she thought that the condom and IUD was enough to keep her from getting knocked up.
And how she was wrong when she thought her parents would never find out about her hasty abortion. She also had the assumption that if they did find out, they would scream and cry and eventually, forgive her. She was wrong about that as well.

She couldn't call her best friend as his parent's image of her had been shattered about a year earlier. Another close friend wasn't aloud to have anyone over for whatever insane reason her mother had. Quite a few others would not be a welcoming home for long as when their parents found out, she would probably be kicked to the curb once more.

Finally she decided to give an old friend a call, one that lived about fifteen miles outside of town. Yeah sure, who knows how his parents would react if they found out why she was seeking a place to stay so desperately, but she couldn't think of anywhere else. She pulled out her cell phone and scrolled down her contacts until she found his number. As she put the phone to her ear she snorted up the snot that was escaping down to her upper lip, wiped her eyes, and cleared her throat.

"Hello?" a deep familiar voice answered, this made her feel as if she was a small girl in the grocery store who had been lost but finally found her mother.
"Hi." She said, attempting her keep her voice from going to an inaudible pitch... she failed.
"Oh hey... what’s up? Wait... have you been crying? Syd what’s wrong?"
"Um... I know I didn't tell you bout this, I was trying to keep it under the tabel... but I-I had an abortion."
"Wow... really? When? Are you okay?"
New tears were falling down her cheek "Um... Friday... I am okay with it and everything the thing is... my parents kicked me out."
"What the ********? Do you need some where to stay?"
"Actually that is why I called you..."
"Okay hold on I'll ask my mom"
"Kay"
A few minuets passed but they seemed like an eternity. She sat and wiped her tears away as she waited and prayed that she could stay.
"Yeah my mom wants to know for how long."
"Um... like a day or so? I don't want to be in your mom's hair for too long. I can try and find somewhere else after that until this blows over."
"Just a second." She could hear him talking to his mom even though his hand covered the receiver, but she could make any of it out. "Yeah you can stay..."
"Oh my god thank you so much."
"No problem. When you get here we will talk about this okay?"

When she arrived at his house the rain had stopped and the moon was full. He invited her in and led her into his bedroom.

"You can have my bed tonight." He said very shy, almost like a little boy.
"Thank you so much for all of this."
"Yeah... so how did this happen?"
"Like what? Like the getting kicked out or what?"
"Well like how did you get pregnant? Like by whom?"
"Um... you don't know him. He is a friend of mine named Brian. He graduated last year and now is going to school outside of Boston. It was over Christmas break."
"I thought you were smarter than that." As he said this her heart began to pound, this is what she was afraid of.
"What do you mean?" Syd said aggravated as her face began to burn.
"You let him ******** you without using anything."
"Why do you just assume that? I have an IUD and we used a condom. The condom didn't break either." She was getting very upset and argument but this state was almost second nature to her, it was a place she visited often.
"Then how did you get pregnant?"
"I read somewhere that sometimes they have microscopic holes… and as for the IUD they are just as affective as getting your tubes tied… I don’t know. I am just luck I guess."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"So like... you are just like hella fertile?"
"I guess..."
"So like the abortion... did it hurt?"
"It was uncomfortable but worth it. Like I went through Planned Parenthood and not to dis them or anything but like they don't put you under."
"What the ******** it costs extra money so they just do a local anesthetic."
"Oh. So do you regret it?"
"Not at all. I mean, it was the hardest decision of my life. But I know that I did the right thing... even if I did end up getting kicked out."
"Yeah... well... you should get some rest."

I am not sure how accurate the last little bit about the Planned Parenthood not putting you under thing is. I have heard it from many women who have had abortions from them but feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

There's no need to put you under, so theres no reason she should be bothered. Depending on how early anyways. A friend of mine had a later term abortion, and they put her under for that.

Mine was first trimester, and it takes all of 15 min. They numb your vaginal area, wait for that to set in, open it up with something that seems similair to the tool your gyn uses to open you up. They stick the vacuum up there, and that takes a little bit of time, and then you're pretty much done. I went through planned parenthood, so yeah. They then have you sit in a room for about 30 min to an hour to make sure you're fine, no immeadiate issues, they talk to you about future forms of bc, usually might give you some pills you need to take for the next week or so, and then send you on your way. It was all relatively painless.

AS far as your writing, you really need to break up the conversation more. Just straight "blah blah blah" "yeah yeah yeah" "uh huh huh" can get boring. You want to add things like actions, descriptors, etc to break that up. And lengthen some of their lines. A lot of the stuff is unnecessary.
