...Well what did people think?
I've so far found a general vibe of people disliking it, however I personal quite liked it...better then last years starter 'Smith and Jones'. And cute monsters And Donna ( whom didnt seem all that bad as she did in the runaway bride...)
I better just white out the last bit in case no one realises this thread has spoilers: And Rose! (OMGWTFBBQ?!?!)
Will add more to my rambling of it later...just has to sink in for a bit...
What did everyone else think?

It was better than I was expecting. The Adipose were obviously meant to be cute rather than scary, and the Foster woman was a pretty good villain. But overall... it wasn't great. However... (spoilers) the bit at the end when Rose came back stunned me and my sister. She actually squealed, I think. That was pretty awesome. Made the episode. (and spoilers end)

I want an adipose!
And apparently Rose was there because the parallel universe she's in is collapsing.
I loved the bit at the start with their conversation through the window/door across the room. xD
Wow, I've whited out a load there.

No need to white out the spoilers if they're just from this episode.
Haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised to hear they're already teasing us about the return of Rose right in the season premiere. The fact that she's coming back is no big secret anymore, of course, but I bet most people weren't expecting a glimpse so soon.
Anyway, is Donna still as ditzy as she seemed in The Runaway Bride, or did they tone that down now that she's a proper companion?

I mildly disliked:That the dramatic resolution was 'Must...tinker...round...with...big...machine...while...saying...technobabble'. I know, I know that the whole point of it was to set Donna up to produce the capsule and conclusively demonstrate the 'Doctor needs an accomplice' point that episode was trying to make. But even so, having 'Must...tinker...round...with...big...machine...while...saying...technobabble' as the win condition feels a bit too Pertwee era for my tastes. I loved, loved, loved: That the villain was a blatant parody of Jo Frost! The Adipose! That we saw a likeable and pleasant woman, on the verge of a new and more confident life, die a painful, terrifying and humiliating death and the show made it cute. So sick. So wrong. So Doctor Who. The very Sex and the City incidental music. The messing-with-fanboys-heads Rani misdirection. BERNARD CRIBBINS!!!! The lipreading scence. Instant classic The misdirection of having the Doctor talk about Martha, Martha, Martha to put her at the front of our minds...then springing Rose on us. Sneaky. How well it 'grounds' the series. When Doctor Who sets out to make me feel that its Britain is the same one I live in, it does such a better job of it than Torchwood, despite that show having all the advantages. Donna really does feel like she's from the 'real world'. Just what a perfectly paced and pitched bit of work the thing was. It works for the eight-year-olds watching and it works for grizzled old fans like me, and it panders to neither. This is a confident production with nothing to prove to anyone and the self-assurance to just put out stories as classy and fresh as this because it can. BERNARD CRIBBINS!!!!

Finally saw it. Not bad... entertaining, if nothing else. My favorite bit was that lip-reading sequence. I also liked how Donna asked the Doctor why he never changed his clothes, because it just finally needed to be said!
And Donna packed. A lot.
What I didn't like is the annoying trend we're seeing of "once you travel with the Doctor, you can't move on and end up spending the rest of your life obsessing about it" that started back with Sarah Jane in 'School Reunion'.
The fact that they kept Rose's cameo quiet suggests to me that the production team does have a few secrets left up their sleeve, despite all the spoilers that have already leaked. That being the case, I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Foster actually does turn out to have been the Rani, and she shows up again later in the season in a newly regenerated body. The Doctor did conveniently chuck her sonic pen into the trash for her to retrieve (along with the keys to Donna's car).
Oh, yeah... Shadow Proclamation got mentioned again.

I heard the name "Adipose" a few hours before the event and said "They sound like something from In The Night Garden."
Having seen them, I feel confident in saying that I wasn't far off. I look forward to the inevitable squishy toy smile

Lovely episode!
Loved the how in beginning Donna and the Doctor were following each other without knowing it, same with the lip reading scene- brilliant! The adipose were cute, but quite freaky.
Donna was wonderful. That's all I can say.
Rose, meh. Am I the only who isn't positively ecstatic with Rose returning? Not that it's a bad thing, but I don't see why we should bring her back. She had her run, she was great as a companion for the most part. But to bring her back, that seems a bit to much of a stretch.

Off on a tangent here, but the trailer for next episode looks really really interesting. Am I crazy in thinking there was a call back to "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" when Ten exclaimed "We're in Pompeii and It's Volcano day!". If I remember correctly Jack mentioned something about Pompeii and "Volcano Day" in passing in those episodes.

Anakoreta If I remember correctly Jack mentioned something about Pompeii and "Volcano Day" in passing in those episodes.
Yep, you're spot on. Jack claimed one can work the same con he did in the Blitz in Pompeii, provided one remembers to set the alarm clock for volcano day. Here's a thought...given that we're leading up to all of Ten's companions appearing in the finale and given Rose's cameo in Partners in Crime... I wonder if they'll have John Barrowman do an unpublicised apperance in Fires of Pompeii and have Donna briefly meet Jack without knowing who he is. smile
