He did not know why he was here.
Niiran found himself out in the narrow brick-paved alley out behind his shop, arms crossed and head tilted as he tried to think of just why he had decided to come out back here. Why? The trash had been taken out the previous evening, and there had been no mark of vandalism for him to come out over and worry about. No mess out back, no deliveries being made... huh.
Had he come out for something? No, Niiran could not remember needing anything. The meticulous feline kept everything where it was supposed to be, and it was all in the shop. Huh. Speaking of shops, he should head back inside and get ready to open for the day. It was nearly time, after all.
Yet he could not leave the litlte alley, at least not until he remembered just what it was he was out back here for. Oh dear, oh dear. Why was he out back here, again?

Liet held the baby in her arms and waved at Niiran from the very back of the alley. The child was heavy and oddly quiet, but she could feel his heartbeat against her arm as she struggled to hold him up. "Hi," she said. "Are you..." With a great deal of struggling and muttering, she freed a piece of paper from her pocket. Avedis had found the name once she'd located the location of the soul bond of this child. "Nyran? Niiran?" The childish Illusionary crumpled up the paper and tossed it into a nearby can. "This is yours."

"Hm?" Mildly startled by the voice, Niiran turned reflexively as the child called out his name. "Yes, that's me. Do you-"
He broke off as she mentioned that she had something for him. Curiously he took a few steps closer. That bundle was too lumpy to be books, and yet--
Niiran's hear skipped a beat, and not in the good way. Was that a BABY she was holding. Oh goodness! Was that a baby? And here he thought that nonsense with random children appearing back here were over and done with...
Ears flattening at the thought, he inclined his head to the side slightly. "Oh?"

Liet shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other. "Well, see, the bond led me here to you and that means that you were supposed to find him as a floating colorful thing. Except you kinda didn't, but I did, and I found his sister too, but you don't have a bond with her so I only brought him." She thrust the child at Niiran and wobbled again. "Please take him or else Avedis gets to keep him. And he needs to be with you." For a moment she paused, and then she said, "Nothing's wrong with him," she explained hurriedly. "Really. He's just being quiet."

Almost instinctively the Siamese accepted the offering of the infant that was thrust in his face, gently tucking the child into his embrace. He glanced down almost curiously as the girl's words echoed in his mind. Crimson eyes stared back, making Niiran frown. How strange.
"Oh..." Uhm, what to do? Normally his first reaction would be to run inside and call up his friends who knew of these things, but...
"What exactly do you mean by bond?"

"What I said," she said sourly. Demonstratively, she linked her fingers together and pulled, though they didn't come apart. "On some level, I don't know where, you and him are like that." She demonstrated again. "He found someone who had what he was looking for and linked them together. Like that."

Niiran nodded, as if in understanding, of course not getting much of what she was getting at. Maybe it was like a soul bond? He would have to assume so. Maybe he could find a book on this sort of thing.
"I see," he half-lied. "One last thing- does the baby have a name or..." a pause. "Or anything I should know about?"

"No, there's really nothing else... Except. He's got a sister. Here's the phone number of her guardian..." She tucked another piece of paper into the baby's blanket. "I gotta go. My bedtime is at six," Liet said. "See you."

Shifting the oddly quiet baby so that he could accept the number, Niiran nodded. So he would have to think of a name. Hm. He would be certain to call his sister of his... well, the family, at least. "Thank you," he said with a polite nod. "I shall be sure to take good care of him.

"Okay. You do that." Liet fled past him. She had to get back. It wasn't Avedis she was afraid of, not really. It was actually Strae who could get nasty.
