السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Allright, I'm a MSLI in AROTC.

I really suck at LAND NAV

and I am always freezing my a** up at Ft. Lewis when we do FTXes...it sucks balls, and I'm from the desert too... emo

Any tips on Land Nav?
And how for this poor, misplaced Zoni to keep warm in OR?

And any tips on making hooches is loved.

I'm also an MSI in AROTC. Land Nav is easy; you just have to do calculations correct and simple. Here's some tips that an MSIV told me, and they've really helped:

-Use X's, not dots, to mark your points. Dots might increase the points' locations by up to 20 meters (which makes a big difference), whereas the intersection of an X is pinpointed.
-Denote your points by writing their names on the sides of your map/do not denote your points directly on the map. This will make your map look cleaner, therefore, making it easier to read. Typically, I write "P1" (for Point 1) directly vertical from its location on the map.
-Always draw your lines (such as finding the Grid North) on a flat surface to get the straightest lines possible. A non-flat surface may skew results. I suggest bringing a clipboard or a small piece of cardboard.
-Try not to dead-reckon, especially on hilly or mountainous terrain. Try to utilize roads and pathways on the map.
-Most importantly, do NOT forget your pace-count.
