Isiah was careful not to lose his way this time. Having gotten lost during his last expedition to explore the land, the young colt didn't want to repeat his mistake. While this meant he would have to move a lot slower and stop more often, at least this ensured he wasn't going to get lost. At least not if he could do anything about it.

Still, his constant pauses cut into his travel time and left him quite visible. Though he has yet found a reason to fear for his life. There had been no hints of the strange horses the older filly Uni spoke of and they may all very well have been made up.

The young mare walked through the plains. She looked old, tired, and seemed to walk with a nervous pace. A timidness and fear seemed to overwhelm her, radiate off her being, though Eponine could hardly see it. Her once playful and happy-go-lucky grace had long been shed by the appearance of someone tired and broken. She tried to be a wonderful mother, but it was difficult; with one of her children gone missing, the father absent in her daughters life, and her daughter regretful of her life it left a lot of guilt and residue upon the soul of Eponine.

She had tried - she had tried so hard to reach to her daughter and it seemed all she had managed to do was push her away. The white haired mare couldn't comprehend her daughters darkness and confusion, though she tried, but ultimately she couldn't save her. And that hurt. It hurt she didn't know her son, could hardly remember what he looked like much less know him. Cassiel was grown now, she could only assume the same with the colt. Had he turned out like his father or had he chosen to walk a lighter path?

Bah - Eponine just didn't know.

Step by step, the mare paused now and then to nibble upon the spring grasses. So lost in thoughts she almost overlooked the small form trudging slowly not even 200 feet away. When blue eyes caught sight of the odd looking colt, Eponine couldn't help but lift her head and watch. He seemed to be moving slowly, pausing now and again, but that wasn't what caused her confusion. There was something odd about his markings and his front legs . .. they were. . . . they were different.

Maternal instinct stirred and she glanced around in hopes of sight of a family or herd. Where were its parents or family? Or was it out exploring? The mare contemplated bridging the distance, but decided to wait. Part of her feared getting involved as a shyness renew entered her spirit; she didn't know the colt, but with how awful a mother she was, she figured she might be more trouble to him than she was wroth.

So for now she merely watched, head canted to the side to see what the little blond, odd-looking colt might do.

There weren't many things Isiah could use as a landmark, but with his heavy front legs he learned to improvise. He would paw at the ground with one of his front legs, easily creating a small hole to serve as a sort of trail for him to follow. He seemed mighty pleased with himself for thinking it up, chest puffed up in pride at his accomplishment. Though for it to actually be an accomplishment he would have to be able to find his way back using the dug up trail-marks.

He'd meet that technicality later, he was certain of that.

The young colt's attention shifted from the trail to a figure in the distance. Was it Uni? Or Muse? Or maybe it was one of those strange soquilis Uni mentioned? To Isiah who had been raised by one of those two-legged creatures he didn't quite know most living things grew older and larger. For all he knew, it was another filly, a larger filly, but a filly nevertheless.

He wondered why this one didn't come near him, maybe she was tired? Being larger would mean you'd be heavier, wouldn't it? Yes, that was it, she was probably too tired from exploring and was resting. In that case, Isiah would come to her! With a flick of his tail and ears, the young colt trotted towards Eponine, a friendly smile on his muzzle.

Already he thought of questions to ask her, like if she had seen this big wet thing called a "sea" and if she knew what things lurked in caves. They could exchange stories! Oh, Isiah was indeed quite happy to meet new faces.

The mare's ears pricked as she watched the young colt trot towards her. It was apparent they were the only two soquili around, but the young mother could only hope that his family was out there waiting for him. She had gone exploring without Twilight and Cosette. . . So had both of her brothers! It was only natural that this little fellow was doing the same. . .

Best not to assume anything.

Her white tail flicked lazily behind her as she offered the little colt a friendly smile of her own. Dipping her head, white mane cascading over her gaze, she offered a gentle greeting. "Hello th-there, s-s-stranger." Her stammer had never improved and with her age there was a good chance it would never happen. She still hated it but there were darker shadows in her life than worrying about what people thought of her funny way of speaking.

She had friends, or at least acquaintances, and most importantly she had her family. They loved her for who she was, stutter and alll. And they still loved her even after what happened with Ezriel and how horrid a mother she had turned out to be. That was guilt that would never leave her. . . She hadn't wanted children at the time but such sentiments had now changed. She loved Cassiel and Rue, despite their rocky beggining. . . But it seemed to be too late now to change anything.

Ah, but why such dark thoughts? This little colt reminded her of her own children but . . . ironically enough this one seemed pleasant. And happy.

Company was always welcomed, being all alone most of the time got boring for the young colt. Though silence wasn't a problem for Isiah as the creature he lived with rarely spoke so he had to learn to understand its movements. He just wondered if the same principles he'd learn from it could be applied to other Soquilis.

"Hiya!" the young colt greeted warmly, mildly amused by the stammering. "I'm Isiah and I'm explorin'." He declared with pride. "How about you?" He stopped a few feet from her, giving her enough distance when he noticed she made no motion to close the gap between them.

He projected an easy warmth, or he'd like to think that was what he was doing with the bright smile and the lightly glowing crimson eyes.

Eponine watched as the little colt pushed his way up to meet her. He certainly was a bold little fellow, but then again, the young mare understood she really wasn't a very threatening soquili to behold. Her white tail swished lightly behind her as the peach hued lad trotted up, but she did take a moment to get a better look at his legs.

They weren't hard to spot and she could see them perfectly clear without staring. Odd legs they were, looking more like metallic armor than flesh and bone. Where she'd caught sight of soquili adorned with jewels and protective armor, like knights, she'd never seen one quite so oddly created. Was it just a coat or were perhaps his legs truly metal? Honestly the mare couldn't say but it didn't matter. . . regardless, she now had a spot of company!

What a rarity. . .

"Explorin, eh?" She repeated, quirking a brow with intrigue though a warm smile crossed her features. "Have you exp-p-plored f-far or f-f-found anything w-worth inv-v-vestigating?" Eponine had learned a lot since the birth of her own foals. Given, she understood she had made many a mistake and regretted how long it took to accept her role as mother, but . . . . there was no way to turn back time, no way to offer Cassiel and Rue and even Ezriel more love. Maybe then they would have stayed. . . maybe then she wouldn't wake with regret every morning and live hollow and empty.

Some mother she was. . . .

Shaking off the sudden sadness that caused her throat to clench and remorse to shadow her gaze, Eponine chuckled lightly, pawing at the ground. "I'm n-n-not doing anth-thing qu-qu-quite as exciting," she admitted softly. "J-j-just grazing, l-letting my thoughts drift to-to-to-to daydreams."

Even if Eponine had spikes ridging her back or fangs protruding her maw, Isiah would have just walked up to her with the same openness. He wasn't exactly sheltered but Isiah was inexperienced and lived with creatures unlike him. He had no one to warn him of the dangerous races and so far he hadn't had reason to fear them since, well, he'd only met other young foals.

But still, Eponine looked nice and she seemed friendly enough. Not as friendly as he was, but she didn't run away from him so that must mean she hadn't minded his presence.

At her question Isiah nodded eagerly, "I met some fillies, one had a horn and a different tail, the other one had a friend I couldn't see but she said it was there. Are those things real? I mean, the kind of friend only you can see?" he chattered, he had gotten used to filling in the silence back home. "And then I found I don't like moving water too much. They make the ground slippery and too soft for me to walk on without getting stuck. But I want to see this biiiiiiig water that's salty, have you seen the big salty water?"

Even if the mare wasn't exploring at that exact moment, she would have done something like that before they met, wouldn't she? "Daydreams are nice but I like to make those when I'm done exploring so's I have more things to dream about." he whickered brightly.
