Racing against the wind, a battle of strength and power, he didnt expect to ever win it, but the pleasure it brought him it was drove him to continue each step.
The thoughts of his mind were wiped clear as he picked up speed, his mane began to dance out behind him, waving like a proud banner behind him. Once overly worked hooves dug into the softening earth, dirt flew high with each step as he continued his run.
Muscles under his coat pulled taunt and tight, rippling under his ivory and multicolored coat as he moved. Powerful, he appeared as he raced through, like a dream slipping away...
His eyes sparkled like new once again, he was finally free. No longer did the chains of man weigh him down, he was free...
He urged forward now, tossing his mane he let out a loud cry of freedom into the wind...
No one controlled him, no cracks of whips over head...nothing but the sound of nature and his own beating heart echoed in his ears..

A Delicately built mare, not much muscle visible on her sleek body, stood in the open field. She was no different in her mind, then any other mare. She herself appeared quiet plain in her eyes. How she admired the brightly colored Soquili. Elen had always admired them. Her mothers blood red coat did not get handed down to her, but rather to her sister. Her sister got all the looks to Elen. She sighed as she contemplated this. A rather odd sound came upon the wind, the tanned ear of the mare twitching towards it.
Almost as if the very thunder god himself was running towards her. Her body became tense as she nickered towards the sound softly, curiously. Elen turned herself to face what sounded very threatening though as it got closer, she knew it was the hoof beats of another. Her mother had warned her about other Soquili. Some where god, some weren't and she had to be careful. Her green eyes, like a sea of grass, scanned the horizon around her as the hoof beats grew closer.

At the sound of the soft knicker, his ears strained forward listening. Bright eyes searching until he spied the delicate mare, her earthy tones were a pleasant sight, he thought as he urged his pulling muslces to a slower pace. Shaking his mane out a bit, his small bunny like tail wiggled in the process. He turned and gave it a short rather grumpy look before turning his attention towards her.
Slowing to a stop, a few feet away from her, he watched her through his long forelock before he pranced for a second. He couldnt help but notice the strong contrast of her eyes, the green depths seemed to pull at him. Aton tried to return his breathing to a more normal pace, it didnt take long.
"Hello.." Deep vocals emitted from his muzzle, though it seemed to have a slight etching of sorrow in its depths. Eyes traveling over her for a moment, he noticed her solid white hoof amongst 3 ebony ones, he smiled. "Cute hooves.." He nodded his head, "I like the white with the black...mm yes." He muttered half to himself.

Her eyes gazed at him in astonishment as his flashy colors almost called to her. How odd that she should be thinking of how she wished to be bright, then to have him prance into the field. She smiled and dipped her head lightly, her voice trailing a soft "hello sir" as she shifted lightly on her feet.
Though he probably didn't realize his muttering, she heard every word. IF she could of blushed at that moment she would of, so instead smiled and quietly nickered a thank you in reply. Looking him over she noticed all the patterns, and of coarse. His little bobbed tail. Giggling quietly at the cuteness of it, she did not want to seem rude.
" Where are you in such a hurry too... if i may ask that is... Sir" Looking down she didn't mean to seem rude. And realizing what she just asked, she felt flustered.

He gave a slight wince at the sir bit, was he really that old? No, he couldnt be he thought with a flicker of his tail. No way...right? His gaze shifted from her, to his hooves in an almost bashful way as he continued to ponder how old he really did look. Blinking, he shook his head, "Please call me Aton...Sir makes me feel..well as old as the sun.." He almost chuckled. "And on such a fine day, I dont feel that old...Specially around a lovely mare." He felt charming for once...it was extremely rare.
At her soft knicker, his cheeks darkened in hue. She had heard him, "Oh I-I- um..Heh.." He shuffled his hooves. "No need to thank really. The truth is always free.." He couldnt believe he was stuttering..At her giggle, he turned and sent a glare at his tail once more. "I know..hes pitiful.." He snorted at his tail. Oh god he thought, she must think Im crazy...Hell! I think Im crazy he thought with a shake of his head.
"A hurry? Oh the running...umm to feel free." He mused with a slight sigh. To be free from the chains...the whips..the nasty pale faced creatures...his ears dropped like a sad puppy.

“Oh, I’m terribly sorry... I refer to every stallion I meet as sir… though you are only the third other then my father I have met. My apologies Aton… I am Elendighet… Elen is preferred as it is easier on the tongue” Smiling coulee the mare looked up to him again, her face feeling warm as it hid behind her forelocks at his compliment. Her mother warned Elen about charming, handsome, or stallions that approached her at all, but Elen was lonely and desperately was in need of friends. She looked back to his tail as he seemed to curse it. Her words flowed smoothly and fluently from her mouth, “No not at all, I’ve never seen a bob like that before… it reminds me of the cotton which a rabbit carries”
She smiled as her main and tail gently moved in the slight breezes that would pass over them every once in a while. It really was a beautiful day she could agree on that. Looking over at him in curiosity once again she looked at his eyes which looked sad. Without even thinking, her question brought itself up. “You sound as though you always haven’t been able to run and dance in the grass…”

"Dont be sorry, you have the manners of a lady. Never be sorry for those.." He flickered his ear, "Elen.." Her name rolled off his tongue with a velvety texture that he rather enjoyed. He'd meet other mares before, back with the pale face. They had been angry vile creatures with forked tongue, and he understood their fury, they had been breeders.
His ears perked at her words about his tail, he took a look at it once more. He snorted, "I never thought of it like that..Hmm.."
He watched at the breeze played in her mane, the dark color was rich and complimented her features. He looked up to the sky, and watched a few fluffy clouds roll past. Her words snapped his attention back to them, " I haven't been.." He confessed.

Elen watched the vibrant stallion as he took the world in around him. She listened intently at his words and smiled the whole time, flicking the hair out of her face so that she could see him. She was a gentle little mare, not a mean bone in her and to think her name meant misery. Calmly, after he had finished, she spoke gently with a nickering hint, “I thought I had upset you so that is what I was mainly apologizing for”
Her ears perked forward as he lipped her name almost, smiling as she had always done throughout the conversation. He was intriguing her. She hadn’t met many Soquili but she was quite sure that he was a bit odd from the rest of them. At his words her smile slightly lessened and she asked very gently, almost as if her very question could knock him over, “I know this might be rude, especially since we just met but, may I ask... Where have you come from?”

Aqua base colored eyes were drawn to the mare, he chuckled a bit, a faint crooked smile tugged on the corners of his muzzle, "No no, you hadnt..Im sure you'd know if you had.." He nodded. His temper took quiet a bit of stroking before it would be unleashed. Unless someone he cared for was in danger, other then that he was pretty calm and laid back. He enjoyed the smile she bestowed upon him.
He wouldnt deny that he was a bit odd himself, compared to many to say the least. He looked down at his ebony hooves, white fur swirling over the hard mass as he sighed. "I guess the land of the pale faces...My very first memories are of them.." His tail swished slightly behind him.."I cannot even remember my mothers scent, but I can remember the smell of burning flesh from branding...thankfully I wasnt branded. My pelt to colorful for them to find a decent spot I was told.."

She frowned a bit after hearing his story. She could not imagine what it would be like to not even remember her own mother’s spiced scent. Elen gave him another smile and nickered softly as if to try and help ease the pain she could tell he had felt in remembering that. Flicking her snow white, soot black tail back and forth she began to speak gently,
“Well ... my name means misery, and you know how they say… misery enjoys company, would you like to walk with me sir?” She paused and took a light breath in and looked over at the stallion before speaking once more,
“I live with a two legged one, her name is Isi. But she isn’t light or too dark. I think she is a mix between the two. She is kind and I have the privilege of being able to say she has not hurt me. Or even attempted to. So it makes me sad to hear what these pale ones have done to you. I’m glad that they could not brand you… I’m not sure what that is but it doesn’t sound pleasant.”
Again she admired his pelt, how colorful it was. She had never seen such a pelt before. She had seen pink and blue but never a mix of the two on the light color of white. Her own pelt in contrast to that did not stick out as much.

He looked up at her, a smile tugged on the corner of his muzzle. "I dont see anything miserable about you...I think you were wrongly named then." He rolled his shoulders, he wanted to take a walk with her, but what if they came back looking for him. He didnt want to see her behind a gate locked away, she was to beautiful for that kind of life at all.
He'd keep her from them, they'd never get their hands on her.."I'd like that.." He nodded his head with a charming smile.
His ears perked as she spoke of the two legger she lived with, his heart raced. Never could he trust another again...never. He'd lost to many friends, his family...He shook his head. "Branding is where they take this twisted piece of..something that they've left in a fire for many hours, its bright red and they put it to your rump...and burn your flesh." He snorted thankful that he'd never gotten branded as well.

She walked on ahead of him, looking back to make sure he fallowed. Listening as carefully and as intently as a foal learning its first lesson. Elen took in every word about the branding and pondered it carefully as she walked. Amazing it was that one could walk without thinking about it. “That sounds horrible. I am very glad they did not hurt you with one of those things…. They sound quite monsterish…”
Elen had always thought the two legged weren’t that bad. Of course she only knew Isi, no one else. She stopped and waited for him to catch up smiling and looking worldly over her shoulder to him. Nickering slightly she spoke in a kind and gentle voice, “Not all of them are horrible creatures… they are like us. Some are good some hold bad. You just had the misfortune of running into the bad ones...”

He kept up behind her, the slow easy pace was much more appealing than the break neck speed they had them work at, it was nice to feel the breeze, and not the hot heat from the fires, and coals..He shook his head, he wasnt there. He was here, with a lovely mare chatting...
"Och indeed they are quiet..." He shook his head slightly. "Little foals had to deal with em...Poor things.." He could remember how many little colts had been in his box, and sobbed for their mothers, and then cried for nights and days after the branding..He'd have to break out and risk his own neck several times to allow the little ones to see their mothers, or to bath their fresh branding in cool water.
"Aye, I suppose your right. Though, alot of em are rather nasty..I dont think I'll ever be able to forget the things Ive seen, felt.." He shook his head ever so slightly.

“I can understand why you would not be too keen on them… I would love for you to meet Isi though. She is kind. She rides around on king a lot when they go out to gather food but she never uses anything on him. She just tugs lightly on his main in the correct direction as he sometimes doesn’t do as he should”
She giggled thinking about king and Isi. They where such a wonderful pair. Even if they were of different species they seemed to connect well. King could even understand what she was saying which was amazing to Elen since the only word she knew was ‘Elen’. She slowed down to walk beside him, her green eyes glowing as she looked into his even if he was not looking at her. They where odd. Purple rimmed and green, with the purple slit. She was intrigued by his appearance.
“Ohh king is my grandpa. He’s an elder now”

He tossed his mane a bit, nodding as he listened to her speak of the other and her two legger, he pondered a bit. Maybe they all werent awful creatures like he thought, but much like the good and evil that even plagued them.
"I suppose, I could meet this two legger of yours. Though, only with you of course.." He grinned at her before looking away a bit. He enjoyed himself more than he thought he should be allowed to with Elen.
He could feel her eyes upon him, he couldnt help but feel the heat rise to his cheeks as a blush rose on his skin. She was a stunning mare and having her stair at him in such a manner flattered him beyond reason. He shifted his gaze and watched her, their paces becoming one united sound.
