The vibrant light of the sun was pouring down against the crowds of people lining the walkways. It was warm, comfortable, beautiful. It was a familiar glow, and a familiar warmth. Alex enjoyed the feeling. It almost brought a sense of security to the weird situation he had found himself in. The people --- there were dozens and dozens, closing in on his space and constricting his moment. He was trapped, glued to the side of a man who was equally notable as a stranger. It was horrifying, and Alex felt his blood boiling through his veins. He felt a fidget, and a bout of anxiety, washing over him like unkindly waves.
As much as he attempted to stay calm, it was becoming a difficult scenario. The longer they tended to nonsense and circled the street, the more he felt himself growing anxious. His wings fluttered. His lip twitched as he gave the occasionally wary smile. His fingers tapped his wrists, fiddled with his shirt. All the while his feet pattered against the concrete and carried him at the side of Izzy.
Izzy, that stranger who had somehow taken on a role as care-provider. Izzy, who had for whatever reason, scooped him away from the realms of foster care. Indeed, Alex was mildly grateful for the matter, but it did not change his reluctance. It was difficult to accept the roles of child and care-provider when there seemed to be ... Little distinction. At that, it was difficult to accept the roles when he had no true ambition to do so. He did not know Izzy well. They were ... Acquaintances, at best. The passing conversations within the apartment had been easy, or the occasional television show. But quality time? Quality time seemed so much more difficult. It didn't help when the man didn't seem to know which direction was north or south.
"I know it's around this road --- I saw it, I swear I saw it." Izzy had began raving, ruffling his hair in mild annoyance. "Park. How do you miss a park? They're big. They got trees..."
Alex had stared, turning around to watch behind him a moment. He spoke not a word, choosing instead to keep an eye on himself for sake of the space. It was driving him wild.
"Usually have a gate, or a sign, or something --- OH! Hey! There it is!" Izzy's voice had piped.
Without warning, Alex had felt a firm grasp on his wrist. He had felt a gruff tug that had nearly knocked him off of his feet, and then he had felt the wind rushing as they ran and ducked through the gate, into the vastly open park. There was a bit of laughter echoing, but it did not leave Alex's silent mouth. The young boy had only gaped, pulled his hand away, and watched the entertained adult standing with bat, glove, and ball.
It was going to be a long day...

Mort was more than a little angry. Elda had once again dragged him from the relative safety of his room and the comfort of his music to venture out to the local park.
The park was boring. Mort wasn’t particularly interested in the playful antics of the other children his age; he’d be much happier holed up in his room with his Ipod. He sighed as Elda took a seat on an unoccupied bench and opened her book. That was always a sign she was planning to stay a while.
Instead of going to play, he stomped over to the shade of a large tree and flopped down on his back in the soft grass. At least he still had his music, he tough as he pulled his Ipod out of his pocket and set it on shuffle.
Closing his eyes, Mort lost himself to sleep in the comfort of the music music.

"Okay, so, uhh..." Izzy had began. His mouth had moved at a quickening rate; his accent had sang loudly as he spouted his drivel of finding something entertaining to do. It was a familiar lecture, one Alex knew he had heard at least twice before that day. I don't know you, you don't know me, so we'll work on that.
Alex's wings had twitched as he rubbed his shoulders. His eyes had flicked about the park as his mind began to shut off the sound. He did not want to think about the lecture in the least - and so it was not until he had heard the a cell phone ring that he had been jarred out of his idleness. He had blinked, grinning inwardly almost as Izzy had jumped. It had been funny to watch him drop everything accidentally, and then fumble for his phone.
"U-hm..." Izzy had snorted, scratching his chin as he answered the device. Then he had been lost with the words 'sorry, one minute'.
Alex breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't sure he liked baseball, and it didn't seem fun when he ad not sincerely consented to the venture in the first place. With a half-grin, he had turned away from the occupied Izzy. He had jogged off, dashing into the park to presume a stroll. He needed to clear his mind and settle down. Too quick a pace so early in time, and no matter the good intention he simply wasn't ready.
A seemingly vacant tree had captured him. His face had brightened as he had oogled the branches. His feet had scuffled the ground at the idea of climbing it. That would be fun, and easy ... And being high up in a tree was a nice place to be. With a brief laugh of satisfaction, Alex had shifted course and proceeded onward to the tree, leaping up to grab a branch and swing himself up. He had missed, however, and as the result fell flat to his side on the ground next to the sleeping Mort.
"OOF."

It was the impact of the other boy hitting the ground more than sound that woke Mort with a stat. He sat upright quickly, searching for the cause of his discomfort. Spying the other child who was now huddled on the ground—that fall had probably hurt—he hesitantly removed his headphones.
“Are you okay?” He asked cautiously, he didn’t want to startle the boy into hurting himself more.

Alex's wings had fluttered wildly. The force of the impact had certainly caused a bit of shock, and all he could do was shiver in place. Quietly he berated himself, but the silent humiliation of his stupid act ended with the inevitable desire to give it another go. That was simply Alex. Nothing was too complex, and he had every ambition to continuously repeat the same action despite the threat of injury.
A comment had resonated throughout the air, peeping into his brain. With a soft 'mm', he had turned his head to spot a young boy he had never seen before. His lips had puckered curiously as he rolled over, laying perfectly flat on his stomach. "Yeah, yeah. A-okay!" He had exclaimed with a sheepish grin.
So it seemed he had disturbed someone. He hadn't even noticed a boy near the tree when he had approached it. "I'm ... Uh. I'm fine." He repeated, pushing himself up and giving a cautious glance over his shoulder. "Just fell. That's all - just fell!"

Mort looked at the other boy doubtfully, that was a long way to “just fall” for no reason.
“If you say so.” He said finally and flopped back on the ground to resume his music, slightly irritated at the interruption of Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls. He began to hum along with the music, in an attempt to capture the wonderful comfort that had existed before the disruption.
