I don't think there is a best fighter in the game. I think that most of them are pretty balanced.
My best are Wolf, Marth, Samus & zero suit Samus, Lucario, Mario, and Metaknight.
I used Link before, but to many people use him online, and they get annoying because they keep on spamming the Up B move. Ike is kind of a noob character because his attacks send everybody flying very easily, and they are very accurate.

I would either say Toon Link or Pit. Laugh if you will, but Toon Link is fast and powerful, and Pit can jump very far and high, and has fast combo moves. But I think Toon Link is better. biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

My personal best characters, in this order, are Lucario, Sonic, Toon Link, Marth, Lucas, and Olimar.
Of course, the best character is all a matter of personal ability, so one person could be really good with Link and suck with Toon Link, or vice-versa, but that doesn't mean that the character is better/worse than any other.
