Horses whinnying, Indians yelling, banging noises all rang through his head, noise that wouldn't go away... Ears twitched, his body shivered, and his eyes quickly flung open, full of fear and perhaps a bit of fury. It took a few minutes of slow, deep, breathing, before Andor was able to pull himself together and rise to his feet. He'd been sleeping under a tree he'd found while wandering, decided to take a nap because he'd had no energy left. It'd been mid day then, it was now late... the sun had gone down, the crickets were chirping and he was... alone... What did it matter? He was always alone, he'd been alone for a long time and preferred not to be bothered by others.

His coat was drenched with sweat and he sighed, lowering his head as his messy mane flopped in every which direction. "Still haunted by nightmares..." he whispered to himself to break a bit of the nighttime silence, "I'm like a little colt..." It wasn't rare to see the poor unicorn degrade and insult himself, no, this was his usual attitude. Why he had such a poor attitude that night, nobody really knew... it was a beautiful spring night, warm... but humid. Most would have enjoyed the weather and went on a stroll, Andor... on the other hand... grazed a bit while he hung his head in shame.

Drops of rain started to fall from the clouds, Andor sighed, staying where he was, not wanting to move. He had nowhere to go, no place to be, a little rain wasn't going to kill him, not that he would have min-. His thoughts cut off there and dull, life-less eyes, peered out into the silent night. April showers bring May miseries, Andor thought to himself as he slowly made his way back to the tree he'd been under. Strands of wet, jet black hair stuck to his body and he sighed, not caring. His long, lion-like tail flicked behind him as he stared at the ground, staying under the tree to take what protection from the rain it would offer. Even so, that wasn't very much...

It was night, but that didn't mean that the wonderous noises of approaching Spring went to bed with the sun. Sure, the ones that were up and about in the morning were now all gone, but darkness brought along it's friends.

The crickets, the occassional scattering small animal, owls, soft flowing streams, and the bats if you will. The noises were all slowly coming out of their winter shelters, and the sound was more beautiful then ever before. Nature was again what it should be and all was well. Of course, winter was just as awe worthy as Spring...but something about the love-filled season made the earthy mare's heart scream with happiness.

She was but a filly last time this time of the year passed by. Now she was a mare, so no doubt she'd be able to enjoy herself to the fullest. No more bounderies holding her back from showing her true potential. Her little bunny friends, the racoons, the birds, the squirrels, they'd all want to come out and play with her again. Maybe they'd even accept her new found familiar, Arque the bear, whom she found wandering around by himself mid winter. He was absent at the moment, but Epesi didn't mind.

Nighttime strolls were always comforting when you were by yourself. The moonlight guiding the path as you walked, your only sorce of light. It was soothing, and very protective. But-

DRIP! A lonely raindrop fell onto the tip of her nose, and she stared cross-eyed as more began to follow the first. A gigantic grin was plastered onto her face as she looked up into the dark sky. It was raining, oh was joy! Although her curly mane would get ruined and the curls would get tangled if she wasn't carefull. Not that stuff like looks mattered to the earthy mare, but she couldn't let it happen again.

So Epesi sought out the cover of a nearby tree, unaware that almost right next to her was a very...depressed stallion standing under another tree. If she knew at that moment, she would have introduced herself already.

Chains jingled as the wind picked up, blowing lightly as the rain continued to fall down from the sky. The chains... black chains he couldn't seem to get rid of... they'd been stuck to him for as long as he could remember but then again, anything from before that day had been blocked out of his memory completely. The hanging pieces of steel were certainly no fashion statement, he'd tried for months to remove them on trees, even asking other animals to help. It seemed the only way to get them off was to ask a human, and there was no way he was going to rely on... them... It was no longer an issue, other than the chains being a constant reminder of a certain event.

The rain seemed to come down in soft showers, quickly changing to hard downpours and back again, he wasn't sure what to do with it. He did know one thing though, the weather was making the grass soggy beneath his cloven hooves and it was getting muddy. Oh, how he hated the dirt that stuck to him in clumps when watered down, it made him feel heavier and of course... more miserable. In truth, there wasn't a thing Andor didn't feel bad about, not much in the world could make him happy any longer. He'd once had bright memories of his old herd and family but they too had disappeared over time. All that was left was a miserable stallion with a guarded heart. He didn't let anyone in, he was safer that way... he endured less pain and found life to be more... livable.

The stallion was so busy wallowing in self pity he didn't realize there was a mare close by. Well, he rarely noticed anyone other than himself and when he did he disappeared so it was no surprise really. The stallion snorted as droplets of rain dribbled down his face and his dull blue eyes looked back at the ground. Horrible weather, horrible day, horrible life. Pessimistic thoughts seemed to be his talent, and had he been told that, he might say, at least he was good at something.

The rain was just utterly a beautiful sight. There would be no other right way to describe it. Not only did April showers bring May flowers, but it brought life with it too, so however long Mother Nature decided to make it rain, the more excited the orange mare got. New birth of a whole new world, and she was going to get the chance to be a part of it!

A soft squish in the ground as she moved her hoof to a more comfortable position told her the ground was getting wet, and so her hiding spot wasn't going to keep her dry for too long. But getting dirty didn't bother her so much...she'd wait out the rain until it came pouring down onto her. THEN she'd move. Or maybe she wouldn't...one couldn't tell what would happen in the future...even if the future meant 2 minutes from now. Life happened quicker than you could blink, and decisions could be changed if need be, right?

The rain continued to pour down, and her hoofs sank deeper into the ground with every passing second. Okay, so maybe standing in a bunch of mud wasn't exactly a great idea so Epesi had to-!

The sound of a snort entered her ears with the beating rain, and she knew it couldn't have been nature. That kind of noise came from a creature. Copper eyes scanned the area, and it took no longer than a few seconds for her to spot the stallion standing under a close tree. He seemed to be avoiding the rain more than her, and he seemed to be a little down. Maybe a cheering up was needed? Either way, it was polite to introduce yourself, rather than ignore someone if you saw them.

So Epesi made her way out from under her own tree, and stood at the edge of the stallions. "Why, hello...cold weather, isn't it? Mind if we talk? My name is Epesi, if it matters. May I ask yours?"

Cold, damp, miserable, that single day explained every day of his entire life. Okay, so maybe it wasn't cold but there was definitely dampening of the soul and the days were certainly miserable. Some may have said the stallion was being ungrateful, whiny, tearing himself down for no reason... but no, he had his reasons. The main reason his life was no longer worth living, the reason his soul was no longer savable, the reason he was a walking shadow. Emotions, he had none left, other than fear and perhaps hate, others were buried beneath confusion and depression, he'd long since forgotten the feeling of happiness. The way events seemed to turn in the blink of an eye, he'd never forget, the way you could never control anything in life, he'd learned his lesson...

The one thing he could control was his self, and if that meant taking action to protect him against the dark world... so be it. Upon hearing the mare, Andor's blue eyes quickly scanned the area, still dark, emotionless... It wasn't much of a surprise when he saw the mare so close to him, but fear took over at that point. Andor quickly backed away, stepping out into the rain once again, he was wet and shivering but it wasn't because he was cold... The sad stallion had many problems with conversation, he thought the whole world was out to get him! So, as rude as it was, he turned and walked away, off to find another tree.

Not a word had been said and Andor still felt nothing, no remorse, no guilt, nothing. He was protecting himself, or so he told himself, he didn't need to worry about another's feelings. The stallion wasn't even sure what to say to the other, he assumed 'Get out of my face!' was worse than walking off. Then again, he didn't really have the energy to say that either... So, instead of getting in a head on fight he'd walked away, when he had no real intention to fight... Wasn't that what you were supposed to do? Maybe in different circumstances. Once again, Andor was confused, so he hung his head and sighed, now underneath yet another tree, why was life so complicated? Why couldn't it leave him alone until his time was up?

Emotions were Epesi's speciality. It wasn't as though she showed the bad ones all that often, but yes...she did get upset. Everyone did, it was a natural thign to cry and to be sad over something. But she knew how to hide her sorrow with a smile. Most of the time her smile wasn't fake because she always had something to be happy about, but there were times in her life when the smile just couldn't be real no matter how hard to tried to think positive.

But in no way would she understand true sorrow. Depression, miserable-ness, tears...those things were a few things she never experienced. A fairly good advice giver she was, just not very good at being sad. And some things couldn't be fixed with a smile, no matter how hard she tried to believe that, some things were too hard to get over...to hard to forget.

Luckily she didn't know what that felt just yet, though.

The mare was taken back by the stallion's reaction. It was slightly rude, but she had seen worse, so it didn't phase her much. Maybe this guy was just incredibly shy! Ah, well....Epesi wasn't going to give up without a fight, she wanted to talk to him, so she's try again. She'd try until he either yelled at her, or ran away. One would naturally call that part of her personality annoying, but she didn't care.

Standing out there in the cold rain, the mare moved quietly behind the stallion, making sure her steps didn't over power the noise of the storm in case he'd hear her coming. Creeping slowly, and with her copper eyes locked on the yellow stallion, she made her way over to the tree he stopped at.

And tried again.

"Sorry if I startled you, but I won't harm you. I'm just a simple mare, I'm...!" She noticed the chain, and the scars all over his body as if they were the only part of him that shone while the rest hid in the background of the night sky. "Oh. It's okay. I'm sorry. I...I..." For once the outspoken mare was at a lost for words. She backed out into the pouring rain, out of the stallions way, and frowned. "I'm sorry I intruded."

Andor snorted, he hated these innocent routines! Nobody was as innocent and caring as they pretended to be so he wasn't going to give them the time of day. He could at least respect the Soquili that didn't try to hide their true selves and were cruel, sickeningly horrible. Of course, no one could convince the poor stallion that not every Soquili out there was a miserable life wrecker. It didn't much matter, he refused to socialize with any sort of Soquili and that was probably part of the problem.

Hearing the mare come up to him and start pulling the innocent routine made him once again snort, dull, blue eyes staring ahead of him out into the rain. His golden ears flickered back and forth, he heard what she'd said but it quickly went in one ear and out the other. The stallion's lion-like tail flicked behind him slowly, moving to and fro as he continued to stare out in the rain. It was obvious he was waiting for her to try to attack him or for something bad to happen. More worried than before he took a step forward and quickly turned around, keeping his distance as he stared at her, nostrils flaring, a somewhat angry expression on his face. There was just one problem... his eyes showed that he truly wasn't angry... there were no emotion behind the bleak, blue, optics.

"You should be..." he said, his voice deep, masculine, once again with little to no emotion behind it. He continued to stare at her with an intimidating gaze, his tail flicking behind him quickly, showing just how agitated he really was. He didn't want to be bothered by yet another silly mare, why did they always decide to bug him anyways? Hadn't anyone ever heard of a thing called leaving someone alone? That was all the stallion asked for... to be left in peace while he spent the rest of his days aimlessly wandering to no real destination.

Being innocent could sometimes, just be an act...but it was one out of politeness.

But not everyone had an issue with being nice, not everyone found it ridiculously difficult to say something kind to another, even when they didn't deserve it. Sure everyone had a spitfire attitude deep down that was brought to the surface when need be, but others learned to control that side and never have to show it.

Everyone was intitled to their own opinion though, and if someone wanted to believe that there wasn't a single sincerely kind creature otut there, then so be it. Epesi herself believed total opposite. There wasn't a single creature out there that was truly horrid. Everyone had to have a soft side, everyone had to be nice at least once.

And if ONLY once, then they still weren't truly evil.

She kept her copper eyes on the stallion, watching intensely as he glared back at her, his body moving away. Was she seriously that replusive that it drove someone like him away? She had apologized, afterall, for intruding, and she had been nice about it. The smile that seemed to be forever plastered on her childish face dropped a little as the expression on the strange stallion's face changed.

Did he honestly think harm was to come of him because of her? Did he honestly believe that she'd even have the ability to harm him in any way? She was much, much smaller than him, and less experienced. By the look of him, he'd been through a lot.

Maybe that's the reason why he acted this way. Maybe something happened to cause the stallion to be way more guarded then need be.

When his response came, her brow furied into a rather angred expression, to match his emotionless one. Now what a thing to say! "Hmm." Epesi huffed, shifting her weight so she'd be more comfortable. "Well I'm not, actually. You clearly have an issue with me, even without speaking those words, so now I'm glad I happened upon someone like you. Mind giving me a second chance? I'm not as bad as you're playing me out to be." She gaze back at him with the same amount of intensity in her eyes, but with a smile on her face, so the meaning was completely different.

Frustrating was the only word he could seem to fit into this situation, it seemed he always met up with someone. Peace and quiet? Nonexistent! It didn't matter where he went or what he planned on doing somebody or something was there to bug him. Intentional or unintentional, Andor didn't care, nobody knew the meaning of 'I want to be alone'. Useless, things in this world were pathetic and useless. He didn't understand why he was never left alone... why he was the object of everyone's attentions... was it because he looked so hideous?

Didn't matter, he was sick of pity and sick of being betrayed, the world was out to get him and he knew it.

The way he saw it, he had two choices, he could sit around and stay out of the cold, wet, rain, but risk his life on this mare or he could leave and once again be soaked. Was his life really worth trying to save any longer? He seemed more and more miserable by each passing day so the smartest option may have been to end it while he could. Something told him that wasn't the way the world worked, and his conscience stopped him from stooping that low. Instead, the stallion lived his life as a miserable wreck with no hopes, dreams or interests in anything other than the soil on the ground.

The decision was made, he was leaving. He had no time to stay and listen to a pathetic mare who thought she was cute and innocent. Which wasn't exactly truthful because the stallion never had a schedule. Keeping his blue eyes on the damp ground before him, the stallion moved out into the rain, twitching slightly as the cold droplets hit his thin coat. Without looking back he replied, "Yes, I mind," and flicked his tail like an agitated cat.

It annoyed him that the mare seemed to think he was the one with the issue when she was the one lying. She'd said sorry and didn't mean it? She was a perfect example of liars and filthy scum that littered the earth. Not that he was much better, but at least he didn't pretend to be innocent... he knew he was a pathetic waste of oxygen.

She hadn't meant any harm. Any harm what-so-ever. It was in her nature to be...over-the-top friendly. She grew up with parents who were easily, the most ridiculously outgoing soquili of all of them. And she acted that way to make her mother and father proud, since the first batch of children didn't quite turn out the way they expected.

Not that they were disappointed, because they weren't...but Epesi was the only one of her 5 siblings, even of her two younger brothers, who truly carried out the personality brought on by Mahiri and Hania. She was the image of the fox mare and the caramel stallion mixed together.

The mare was brought up to appreciate the small things in life, to look at the world in detail and not the big picture. She loved anything and everything her copper eyes could see, and loved even more what she couldn't see. The stories of what was beyond their land, even though not technically proven to be completely true, were Epesi's greatest wants in life.

So when given an opportunity from the gods to talk to someone like the stallion before her, it had to happen for a reason. She firmly believed that one doesn't stumble across another unless it was supposed to mean something. Good or bad, everything had it's reasons. Like that meeting with that horrid conceited mare only let the orange mare learn to be less...talkative and more guarded.

But that lesson didn't stay with her long. She was Epesi, daughter of Mahiri and Hania and no one could change that.

When the stallion moved from his protection of the three and into the rain, she gave him a puzzled look. Well, for one, that was completely rude, and two....who in their right mind would walk out into the cold to get away from someone? Well, that did make sense but obviously he hadn't thought over his decision very well.

She followed him.

"And why's that?" Epesi cooed, walking very close to him as gazing at him as he stared at the ground. "What did I do, huh? I don't mean to be rude but it strikes me as odd that you won't even give me a chance to explain myself for whatever I did to you." The mare paused, and looked up into the sky as rain drops plopped all over her face, causing her to shake them off instantely. This stallion was different, but she wasn't going to give up. One last chance, at least, to fix this.

"And you'll catch a cold if you stay out here long. Here, I know of somewhere less wet if you'd like me to show you."

It was obvious that this mare was born in a fairy tale land filled with optimism and cheer and had Andor had the energy to do so, he would have rolled his eyes. Some just didn't understand how incredibly horrible and harsh life could be, and how when they thought they were innocent... they were poisoned... sick. Andor, having had quite enough of this disgusting place, only wished he could find an area no one else dared venture. If only there were a place he'd be alone, a place he'd no longer have to worry about unexpected encounters. Perhaps his wishes were too much, was it safer to ask that this mare just leave him alone? As droplets of rain rolled down his face he realized he was still asking for too much and groaned inwardly, if only the world would end...

He was debating whether to give her a smart a** comment to her smart a** remarks but decided against it. Ignorance always showed the other party that he wasn't interested, and he certainly wasn't interested in entertaining this annoying mare. Why bother asking so many questions that weren't going to get answered, did she often enjoy bothering others? Oh, that's right, she was probably now bothering him because everyone else she'd ever spoken to in life was giving her the cold shoulder. Well, he could do that too, she wasn't going to get anywhere with him, he'd show her what a cold shoulder really was.

Taking another step out into the rain, the golden stallion sighed and looked down at the muddy underfoot with eyes worn and drained of life. Without even glancing back at the mare, Andor began walking away from her as if she didn't exist. In his mind she didn't really exist anyways, she was just an annoyance that would soon float away...
PostPosted: Thu Apr 24, 2008 3:49 pm

It was dang hard to be emotionally unattached when life as a foal was anything but. And if one never knew any better, it was even harder to grow up depressed. They say parents influenced how a child acted most of the time, anyways. Those without parents usually (well obviously) grew up alone, and therefore...lonliness was the only thing they ever truly knew.

She had parents, and boy did they love her. So she knew what love was, she knew what happiness was, and she overexceeded in it.

Maybe that's what this stallion's problem was. A tiny smile crept onto her face as the thought came about, and she pondered it for a bit. Had he been alone all his life, and now he was taking it out on the world? Out on HER? Maybe, maybe he was just jealous. Jealous that she was happy, jealous that she could be optimistic and outgoing without a care in the world...

No! It wasn't right to think of another like that. It wasn't right to make assumptions based on nothing. She knew not of this stallion, nor of his past, and couldn't just 'guess' that he was alone. Maybe he was happy in his own mind....

And he was right about one thing. Epesi had been given the cold shoulder one too many times, but after a while it all blended in together and she learned to ignore the rude gesture. If they didn't want company, if they didn't want her to talk to them, they should tell her so. Ignoring someone only proved your immaturity and shouldn't be granted. At least not in the respect they wanted. So the mare didn't want to give up on this stallion just yet...she was stubborn, and he was stubborn. She'd 'bug' him until she won...

...if that was possible.

Copper eyes locked on the golden figure in front of her and he walked away, she began to slowly follow. At first she took only a few steps, then stopped. After a few seconds, she sped up and passed the stallion, only to stop and look back at him. Whatever worked, worked. She'd try anything...

...anything...

A familiar situation he'd often found himself in it seemed, history was once again repeating itself. As he walked along slowly, through the rain without the slightest care in the world, somebody followed him... Yes, knowing he didn't want their company and only wished to be alone, they had the nerve to follow him! This was one of those reasons why he considered the world to be poisoned, tainted and sickening. Soquili didn't teach their children to leave others alone, they didn't teach them the wonders of personal space... No, the only things known by those around him was how to torment others and wreak havoc upon their already deprived lifestyles. He knew how the world worked and he was quite sick of it.

Rain rolled down his body, little droplets forming as they glided down his golden body. His matted and tangled mane was soaked as well, stray clumps of hair covering his eyes and the long scar down his cheek. Avoiding the rain was almost as impossible as avoiding the chit behind him. It seemed he had no other choice but to continue on walking, ignoring the one that thought she deserved attention. Instead of giving that to her, Andor kept his head down, staring at his own two feet as he continued to walk. The stallion knew he was behind her, and could hear her hooves sloshing against the wet grass as she ran ahead of him. She was there... and he chose to continue ignoring her...

He could have lashed out at her, told her how unwanted her company really was. Was there a reason that he kept to himself and continued to ignore her? Anger was often a pleasant emotion and could scare off even the most annoying of mares but... Andor didn't seem to have the energy to lash out at her. Wandering... walking away without acknowledging her presence was the plan for now...

Boredom came swiftly and easily, he figured he wouldn't have to wait long for the mare to bug off and become bored. It was just a test of patience... would he be able to wait until she got bored and took of...? Of course he could, less energy was spent that way anyways.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 30, 2008 5:40 pm

History did repeat itself, but not always the same exact way as the one before it. Something was always off, or different, and it made for interesting experiences. If the saying was true, then how come you could change the outcome of a situation...if you had that power, then wouldn't it be a faulty belief?

She hadn't meant to annoy the hell out of him. Well, she had...in a sense...but not in the way he thought. She wasn't like one of those creatures that never knew when to stop poking...but she didn't enjoy the fun in watching another flip out. Nah, she knew it was wrong to follow the stallion but frankly, she didn't really care. Her stubborn side took over with every step he took away from her, and she couldn't help but get him to at least turn around.

If she were to succeed in getting even an ounce of attention, it would have been enough. Not for her, no....she would've wanted to chat the poor stallion's ears off, and maybe flirt a little bit, but judging by the way this stallion acted...she'd be extremely lucky to get a glance in her direction.

The thing that bothered her the most, was exactly what Andor wanted to do. It was the fact that he was ignoring her. Not that getting the cold shoulder mattered all THAT much, but he didn't even seem to acknowledge her attempts at attention. And oh, Epesi knew that's what he wanted, he wanted it to bother her so she'd go away....but it only bothered her enough to keep her there longer.

When he gained a few paces in front of her, the mare stopped, feeling around the ground with her hooves to find a perfect opportunity to get him to turn for a moment. It was a plan that was borderlining childish, but if it worked...it worked.

Her back leg stumbled across a pool of mud, and it seemed deep enough. Playing damsel in distress, Epesi stuck all four of her hooves in the ground and started to scream.

"Oh no! I think...I think I'm stuck! Help! Help!" It was a very stupid attempy to get Andor's attention, and she realized this as soon as she opened her mouth...but maybe he'd have enough compassion to believe her....

Andor continued on, ignoring the femme while he tried to think about other things... Then again, thinking wasn't really smart considering his thoughts always seemed to go back to one incident. Dark thoughts, angry thoughts, frightening ones, they were all there, so was thinking truly smart? He tried to think about the rain, how it continued to pour down on his golden coat. It wasn't like he tried to keep it clean or anything, so he didn't need to worry about the mud nor did he have to worry about the sky water at all. No, the rain was definitely not interesting enough to think of. He needed a topic that kept his interest but that was hard to accomplish nowadays.

Just when the stallion was about to sigh and give in the mare gave up her chase. Inside he was overwhelmed with relief but he quickly suppressed the emotion, he wasn't supposed to feel. No, feelings were for those that didn't realize the true hardships of the word... Emotions were for those who hadn't yet suffered. Like he always told himself, he'd learned his lessons long ago and never again would he let himself repeat them. This self pity trip couldn't go on long, because the stallion's golden ears quickly flicked backwards as he heard a scream...

He slowly turned, knowing that if he appeared too eager she'd think he might actually care. This had happened before... he'd been tricked into thinking she was innocent... She'd pretended to be something she wasn't... He loathed liars...

"Mud... you're stuck in mud?" he snorted, obviously having no intentions of helping her, "Very tragic." His words were harsh, his face was hard and eyes were blank... but he hadn't turned away from her. Perhaps he was debating to risk helping the mare or maybe he really didn't care and secretly enjoyed her suffering.
