Ok, me and some friends of mine have been coming up with a new format for playing magic. The whole premise is that there's a universal Dream Halls in play. Now, if you look up Dream Halls, you'll find that it's banned, and here's why:
Dream Halls 3UU Enchantment Rare, Stronghold
Rather than pay the mana cost for a nonartifact spell, its controller may discard a card that shares a color with that spell.
Ok..think about that....don't know why it's broken? Ok, here's an example.
You have two Raging Goblins and two Searing Winds in your hand. Pitch a Goblin, play a wind for free, Pitch a goblin, play a wind for free. Now, you just played 2 9-casting-cost spells for free...and did 20 damage to your opponent.
Now, imagine playing decks that can do that all the time. Every single non-playable colored card you can imagine is now playable. Now, here are the rules (we're not done yet, but here's some)
Deck Requirements: No Lands that can produce mana Decks must be at least 75 cards Every Spell may be played as though there is a Dream Halls in play. X spells can have the X payed after the announcement of the spell (if you have some way of getting mana).
Card Legality: All cards ever printed, including Starter, Portal, and Unglued/Unhinged are legal unless stated below.
Banned Cards: Demonic Tutor Regrowth Power 9 Channel Biorhythm Amnesia Brain Freeze Tendrals of Agony Yawgmoth's Bargain Time Walk Capture of Jinzhou Beacon of Tomorrows Temporal Manipulation Time Stretch Time Warp Any Unhinged card that uses 1/2 lives (Assquatch, Avatar of Me, Bosom Buddy, Cheap a**, Flaccify, Fraction Jackson, Letter Bomb, Mons's Goblin Waiters, Necro-Impotence, Saute, Save Life, and Wet Willie of the Damned) Chaos Orb Chaos Confetti Illusions of Grandeur Double Dip Double Cross Double Play Double Take Double Deal Once More With Feeling Sway of the Stars Time Spiral Time Twister Volrath's Motion Sensor
I know that's a lot of cards, but most of the cards are either instant-speed kills, too damn confusing, or are unfair (such as the 'take an extra turn' cards...if you can play those for free, that's retarted good).
Please, give this format a try. It's really fun, and gives you a chance to play so many of those stupid-expensive or wierd cards, and really explore. I think you guys should try playing this with your friends and stuff, it's great. smile

very interesting gameplay i had. has anyone tried a game of rares? you can only use rare cards (excluding land) after that you can decide which type to follow. it''s reall, really hard. all those good common and uncommon cards can''t be used. just destroyed me when i tried that.

I did a rare draft, so I know what you're talking about. I think this is certainly an interesting format and would love to give it a go when my school club starts up again this year.

I think this is certainly an interesting format and would love to give it a go when my school club starts up again this year. i hated it. i lost no good rares and got a couple more. but my deck got creamed by everyone who got over 7 of my cards....that made me sad

i am going to have to find people and play some of that. The rare draft i mean. I am hearing great ideas for gameplay lately.

Arcane_Master_Samx So we can still use mox lotus. no. unglued and unhinged are still banned. Rare draft just stops you from using commons and uncommons, other then that you have to follow the rules from the type your playing.

I know a few old farts who play the same game... only they play with 200+ decks with all 5 colors in it...
They just add in about 100 lands to make it a normal game.

Then again, at times we can get a fast game in under 30 minutes if we really want to hurry.
