Christian loved the park. Jungle gyms to climb, trees to climb, benches to climb, other things to... um... climb. It was perfect for a kid with more upperbody strength than he knew what to do. And at the moment he was hanging upside down from a metal pole (One of a set of four that stood in a line), holding himself up with his hands, his bare feet just pressed against the underside of the pole.
And he was singing to himself. Now usually this wouldn't have been such a big deal, since kids liked to sing. But Christian was a little different. He had two raspy voices, one slightly higher pitched than the other, and capable of singing the melody while the deeper voice sang the harmony.
And both voices were perfectly pitched.

The park was fast becoming Cece’s favorite place in the world. There were so many people; lots of people who liked to come and coo over her and tell her how pretty and cute she was. She basked in the attention the other parents and older children paid her.
But at the moment, though she didn’t know the name of the emotion, she was green with envy. Another boy was getting the admiration meant for Her. All he was doing was hanging upside down, singing.
Though she could not express her dislike in words, she pouted when Elda moved them closer to the boy. He wasn’t even cute like she was. Why was everyone making a big deal out of him?

Chris, on the other hand, didn't realize he was garnering attention. He was just getting to the good part of the song, where it was loud and fun and wild sounding. He pulled his huge bulk (he was already ten pounds heavier than he had been when he had grown, now at 210lbs of mostly muscle and a bit of baby fat) onto the top of the bar and abruptly STOPPED.
He blinked gold eyes at the people watching him, then blushed purple, falling back over so he was hanging upside down again, with his back to them.

Cece couldn’t help but to giggle aloud; that’s what he got for showing off.
The crowd started to disperse now that the strange boy at stopped his song, and Elda moved closer to the boy. This displeased Cecelia to no end. Her mother should be showering her with love and attention AT ALL TIMES. Not wandering off to see other, strange-looking, children.
Still, Elda went to stand behind the boy, Cece’s chubby baby hand clasped in her own, so the little girl had no chance of escape.
“Hello there.” Elda said cheerfully. “We really enjoyed your song.”

"I got too loud," Chris said, staying with his back to her for a long moment before flipping over and dropping to the ground. In the brief moment he was straight it showed just how big he was, but then he dropped down, standing around four feet tall on all fours. "Sorry bout that," he apologized.
His eyes moved to the little girl and he cocked his head. "Hello," he said with a smile that showed off his fangs. "My name's Christian."

Cece’s eyes widened. The boy she’d just been laughing at looked like he could gobble her up in one bite. She turned her face away in a movement that could appear shy or scared. Elda ignored her daughter’s reaction, and instead smiled warmly at the boy.
“Hello, Christian. I’m Elda and this is Cecelia.” She nudged this little girl lightly. “Come on Cece, say ‘hi’.” But Cecelia resolutely shook her head, her face still hidden.

"It's alright," Chris said, sitting down. "I get that reaction a lot." He grinned up at Elda to show it didn't bother him. "I also get splashed with holy water a lot, but I think that's because Gramma doesn't think I take enough baths." That and Gramma liked to torture poor Father Pete, he added silently, but he wasn't supposed to mention that.
"Um..." He looked from Elda to Cece again. "Does she go to daycare yet?"

Elda’s hear went out to the boy. He probably had it pretty rough when it came to silly prejudices.
“No not yet.” She told him. “She’s adopted and I’m trying to give her time to settle into her new home before we expose her to daycare.” She cringed at the though of the trouble Cece could get into with other children about to help her.

"I got a good school," he said. "There's lots of nice people there. Course, now that Rory's grown to be a kid, I don't know many of the babies. But they can't be all that bad." He looked thoughtful for a moment before realizing something. "Oh, it's called Liberty Center. My dad works there."
He looked at the little girl again, hesitating. "If I'm scarin' her--"

“You’re not.” Elda promised the boy. “She’s just being silly. She doesn’t like it when the attention is focused on anyone but her.” This last comment caused Cecelia to turn and stick her tongue out at the other child. Elda frowned.
“I really doubt she’s seriously afraid.”

He grinned at the little girl, finding that reaction funny. Yeah, that wasn't terror. Terror was when they screamed and dove for the nearest cover, offering him things to make him go away. That only happened once in a very rare while, thankfully.
"It's okay if you stop payin' attention to me," he told Elda honestly. He would prefer it, actually. But it would be rude to say such a thing. Christian didn't like having people pay attention to him, unless they were family or close friends.
It made him feel self conscious. The little chain on his earring rang as he squirmed slightly. He wanted to ask the little girl if she wanted to play, but he doubted she'd want to...

“Oh. . . We can go if we’re bothering you.” Elda told him. She was really very disappointed in Cece’s behavior. Maybe it would be better if they just headed home and left Christian to his fun, be probably didn’t want to play with a baby anyway.

"No, it's okay," he said before asking the question he had been wanting to ask of the little girl. "Do you want to play, Cece?"

Cecelia peeked out from behind her mother’s legs, as Elda gave the tiny girl a little nudge.
“O-K. . .” Cece said in her baby voice. Elda managed a small smile.

He grinned. "Do you want to play on the slide?" he asked her, pointing over at the jungle gym. "It's fun. I can show you how, too."
