The sun had just set. The sky was streaked with faint traces of lavender that were quickly being devoured by darker shades of blue and then black. Night was coming quickly and it was finally time to come out and play. A streak of darkness bolted through the forest. It was the color of ebony and blended in with the setting shadows with ease. Its footsteps were but a whisper on the cool spring breeze that carressed the land. The petrified squeeks of a squirrel burst through all that as it bounded forewards, away from the coming shadow beast. But the creature was much swifter then the squirrel and before it could dash away into the nearest tree it found itself face down under the sharp claws of the monster. White fangs gleamed out from its black face and its emerald-colored eyes shown like two gems. It let out a horrible snarl and felt the squirrel struggling desperately to get away.
He pressed his paw down harder, almost smothering the creature so it couldn't breeze. He felt it grow still until he could only feel it struggling for breath. Had it surrendered to death? The large cat beast dug its claws into the earth around the furry creature's head. Death waited in the wings and yet it still remained so still. He would never succumb to such a fate without fighting. All at once he lift his paw. The squirrel, stunned at first, didn't hesitate to dash off into the nearest tree and then leap to the ones surrounding it. Kage snorted, listening to the rustling branches of the trees above him. Killing the creature would've been pointless. He did not enjoy the taste of blood like the rest of his kind. But the thrill of the chase was always worth it. The squirrel had hopefully learned to be more careful. He turned his eyes towards the sky. Another beautiful night.
